Room deposit question re: rate changing

If I book a room (actually we need 2!) at a moderate at rack rate (say $150) they will take a deposit of $300 - $150 each room right! So if I get a code that brings the room down to $100 a night then the deposit necessary is only $200 ($100 x 2) - will they refund the difference on my credit card or will they just apply the whole thing to the reservation.

My instinct would be that they would apply it towards your room stay. Each transaction processed with a credit card costs Disney (or any merchant) per item processing fees, % of transactions, authorization charges, etc. All in all, the paperwork for this would be very cumbersome if it was done across the board. Normally the guest would be staying multiple days, so why not just leave it on the room? Otherwise, you will just be repaying it again at end of stay.

We had this situation with our early Oct. reservations - I called CRO to re-book the last night of our trip when the codes came out; was told they would refund the credit card and that is what happened. Hope that helps!

I just had a similar situation with our January trip. I booked everything at rack rates then called CRO and applied the AP discounts earlier this week. The CM asked me if I wanted to apply my deposit to my room, and I said sure. I figure I will be spending it there anyway.

It sounds like you can do it either way.

I think it can be up to you. I booked AKL standard and then rebooked Savannah and added a GF. They asked me if I wanted to apply my deposit or refund it, I requested to refund it. So, They refunded my original deposit and recharged the new deposits.

If you booked your original reservation with CRO, you can either apply the deposits to your new reservation or have the original deposit totaly refunded and then place a new deposit. Meaning, you'd get a credit of $300, then a charge for the new deposit. If you made your original ressie with DC, or through WDTC, then you have to get the complete refund and charge a new deposit. Disney won't give a partial refund, so it's either apply the whole thing, or get an entire refund from the old ressie and apply a new deposit to the new ressie.
