I called to make ress. at ASMu and the cm said the deposit for the room was $200! Didnt it used to be $90?
Do I need the insurance on a room only ress?

I'm not sure of what it used to be, but I was also told $200 deposit on the room for my upcoming reservation.

I don't know about insurance on the room only ressie. Sorry I can't help with that. :(

Sounds like you booked through WDTC instead of CRO. Here is a description of each.

A WDTC package (including the "room only" Basic Package) requires a $200.00 deposit within 14 days of booking. The balance will be due 45 days prior to check in. Checks, money orders, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover and The Disney Credit Card are accepted. Cancellation between 6 and 45 days prior to arrival will result in a $100.00 fee. Cancellation 5 days or less will incur a $200.00 fee. Any change or modification of the reservation inside the 45 day mark will incur a $50.00 fee.

A CRO room only reservation requires a one night's deposit within 14 days. If arrival is less than 30 days out, deposit is required at booking. The balance is due at resort check in. MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover and The Disney Credit Card are accepted. You may also mail a check or money order. You may change or modify your reservation up to 5 days prior to arrival at no charge. Cancellations up to the 6 day mark will have your deposit refunded in full. Cancellations after the 6 day mark will be charged the one night's deposit as a penalty. Any additional amounts that may have been paid on the reservation will be refunded in full.

And here is a link with more info. ~:D~

Thank you! Thats good to know, I was stressing out thinking I was going to have to come up with $400 that fast (I need two rooms) Sending you a big {{hug}} for your help!!

I just called on Wednesday to the reservation number on the back of the disney club card. I am not sure if I got Cro or WDTC but for a July reservation at the Polynesian, I only had to make a $100 deposit. You do not have to take the insurance also. They quoted me a price with insurance, but I simply asked to have it removed.

You booked a DC reservation which has to be made through WDTC. ~:D~

A WDTC Disney Club Package - If you are a Disney Club member, you are required to book through WDTC but DC members are given different terms than the general public. A deposit of $100.00 is required within 14 days of booking. The balance is due 21 days prior to check in. Cancellations made 5 days or less prior to arrival will incur a $100.00 fee. Changes or modifications made 21 days or less before arrival will incur a $10.00 fee.

So, you can't get a DC discount through CRO? I like their policies better.

SuzeQue,

I just called about these DC policies ( I called the 1-800 number on the back of my DC card) and was told that I had to pay one night stay to reserve the room, pay in full 21 days prior, and that I am charged one full night if I cancel within 5 days. I had read on Deb Wills site the info you quote above but I guess it is either no longer applicable, or doesn't apply to my case, maybe because I used a code?

Disney club - you need a $100 deposit with the final due 21 days prior to arrival. The cancellation policy is the same as room only, 5 days PRIOR to your arrival (this does not include you arrival day). I like to think of it as 6 days from arrival, it's less confusing.

and was told that I had to pay one night stay to reserve the room
If this is true, then it's something new and DC is requesting the same deposit as CRO.

I am charged one full night if I cancel within 5 days
Again, this is new if true, with DC you would use to only lose the 100.00 deposit, now it's like CRO, you lose 1 night (which is your deposit). I'll try and give DC a call later and see if they give me the same info. Thanks for letting us know. ~:D~

FYI: I just called back and was told by the CM that because I used a general code for my March trip, my ressie is not officially a "DC ressie" and DC deposit/cancellation policies do not apply. Also, I was told that it is true that DC deposit is $100 per room, but that even for DC ressies you have to pay 21 days in advance.
I have no idea if this is correct.

By way of consolation (we have two AKL sav. rooms booked and I am paranoid that one of the little ones will get the flu the day before we go), the CM stated that if I need to cancel within 5 days I should just call to "modify" my ressie, making it weeks later. then call back to cancel it altogether to get a full refund. Not sure how I feel about this one...

Hope this helps.

I just booked CBR and they told me one nites room rate for my deposit. Just for your info. I would call them back.

We just booked for next Nov. We were told that the CRO is being eliminated (although gradually) and Disney is planning to have everything go through the WDWTC. Evidently they have been saying this for some time but the travel agent I talked to said she is seeing more and more evidence of this happening now. That means that you would pay $200 deposit but their cancellation policy and payment policy is ridiculous...as far as I'm concerned.

So when making the ressie be sure to ask who it is going through. I am going to write an email to Disney and let them know how disappointed I would be if they changed the CRO room only cancellation policy to match that of WDWTC. And, I resent having them include the insurance in the original qoute instead of giving you the price and then offering to let you purchase insurance if you want it. I think it is rather sneaky.

Hope that helps.

I knew something was up with DC & CRO, because when I called the number on the back of my CRO confirmation they answered "thank you for calling the DC reservation center" (now it says Disney Reservation Center). And when I call the number on the back of my DC card it says "thank you for calling the Disney Reservation Center" (use to day DC reservation center). So I too think they may be merging, hope DC & CRO keep CRO cancellation policies and let WDTC handle the "packages" (more than room only). ~:(~

I called CRO because I just wanted to pay one night deposit on my nov. trip and was told that I would have to pay $200. deposit and gave me the same cancelation policy as the TC. I mentioned that I might as well book through AAA agent if that were the case that the reason I called CRO was to avoid the ridiculious cancelation policy and not get the insurance. She offered to transfer me to the TC because of my AAA discount and I told her I would call my travel agent instead. I figured at least I will get my diamond card with my reservation.

Were you trying to book a AAA rate through CRO or were you just looking for a room only? If you weren't looking for a AAA rate, I would call back and just say I'd like to book a "room only" through CRO please. Because the CM you just talked to was trying to book you through WDTC and I don't know if that's a given if you want a AAA rate. Maybe someone else knows. ~~

You used to be able to book a room only ressie and get the AAA discount through the CRO. But, with this merger or proposed merger, it is getting harder and harder to do a room only ressie. I was able to do it through the agent that I use but she said that they are making it harder to get the liberal cancellation policy with a one night's deposit and no penalties for cancellation. I don't know of any national chains that have cancellation policies (44 days out) with penalties like WDWTC. I am hoping that Disney takes another look at this. Most times I know 45 days out whether I am going or not so it wouldn't make that much of a difference. I guess it is the principle of the thing...as they would say.

How many national chains have hundreds or even thousands of rooms reserved by people who are still making up their minds where they want to stay or hoping for a discount and have multiple reservations. People who have made multiple reservations with no intentions of keeping all these rooms have made a contribution to this problem.

If Disney makes the deposit and cancellation policy more strigent this will cease and they will have an accurate idea of what their room occupancy level really is.

I hear what you are saying, Sammie. That makes sense- but at the same time it HURTS those that DO have plans to come and DON'T have multiple reservations (why couldn't they just not allow multiple reservations? Are their computers not updated enough to warn them if someone with the same name and/or credit card and/or social security card is trying to book another room?) -who make reservations, plan on definitely coming- and then something happens where they can't and they get charged penalties for cancelling.

I mean come on... one night's cost I could understand. But the amount they will charge as a penalty is more than that (well, if you aren't staying somewhere that is more than $200 a night) AND 45 days before is ridiculous. Do they not realize that a lot of people will have things come up in that amount of time that forces them to be unable to come? Yet if they wait till the last minute they can't get a place to stay? :(

I can think of about a billion things that could happen to cause someone to not be able to come... and that's without children. Add on another billion if you have children or elderly parents, etc.
