Room charging

We are coming from the UK and my credit card is expensive to use abroad so we are bringing cash. I'm also bringing a prepaid MasterCard but I can only top up £750 (~$1100).

If I put that card onto my magic band can I charge things to the room and then pay it in cash at the front desk before the money is deducted from my card? Is this difficult to set up?

Also between me and OH we are travelling with $3000 cash - are there safes in the room at ASMu and if so are they really safe or are we better keeping our money on our person?

Il at 6 days to go and so excited!

We are from the UK and prefer to use magic bands to charge stuff back to the room.

You can then pay it off at the front desk with whatever type of payment you prefer.

There are several things to be aware of:

1. There may be a limit of several hundred dollars after which point they will automatically charge the card on file.

2. If you have not settled up the night before you check-out they will take payment at that point.

Therefore, it makes sense to pay charges off as and when it is convenient if you are in the right area and there is no line, particularly if you wish to use cash, gift cards etc It makes sense from the UK to pay one foreign transaction fee and make it one almighty charge, provided the front desk are happy to do it that way.

Value resorts: $500
Moderate resorts: $1,000
Deluxe resorts: $1,500

Once you hit that limit, they will charge your card and start all over. Pay attention to what you have charged to your room and make sure to go to the desk and pay it off with cash before you hit that limit.

With only a $500 limit before your card is charged, you might want to make a habit of paying off your room charges every night when you return from your evening out. The front desk will provide you with an itemized list of charges on request.

Every room has a wall safe. We keep all of our cash and valuables there. Only carry enough cash on your person that you might require for the day.

Since you are staying at AsMu your charging limit will be $500. Depending on how much you charge to your room every day you will want to stop by the front desk and pay off your charges before you reach that limit.

As far as cash, I would recommend carrying only what you think you'll need for that day. We've used the safe in the room and never had a problem. If you feel that isn't secure enough you can ask to use one of the safe deposit boxes behind the check in counter.

Thanks everyone, we only have 5 TS meals planned and the rest will be CS. If the safe seems ok we will probably use that but it's good to know that there are safe deposit boxes too.

Hi Jen not sure if you have the time to get an additional credit card before your trip?
Many visitors from the UK use Halifax Clarity, Santander or Post Office which do not charge for currency transactions. Worth thinking about this for any trip abroad :)

Just a head up, when I was there in September at a Mod. (Coronado Springs) they charged at 500$ (it was 1000$ the year before). I asked the front desk and was told they changed it. Dunno if it was only a fluke, but maybe ask when you check in to be sure.
