has anyone run into this before? I believe at Disney they allow you to link your credit card to the room and charge up to $1500/24 hours, even if the available balance on yyour credit card can handle more. So my question is: how can you get this amount upped? Is it possible. It happened to us once when we were rejected at Tony's, paid cash then went to guest services to see what the issue was. They explained the policy and then ok'd more credit (we had purchased our annual passes that day):cool1:. So I guess my question is if we can avoid this......10 days to go

I think the amount that can be charged to your room is actually different at the different resorts. I think that at the deluxe resorts, the amount available to charge is higher than at a moderate and even less at a value. If I remember correctly, when we stayed at the Poly in 2010, we could charge more to our room than we could charge last year when we stayed at Pop. I could be wrong though. When we stayed moderate, we did not charge to our room at all because it was our first year and I was uncomfortable and not sure how everything worked.

I'm not sure if they can up the amount you can charge, but I always just go the front desk every 2 days to "cash out" my balance and make sure my charges are in line with what is being charged to the room. Not sure if that would work for you, but it's an idea :)

because we have no intention of cashing out our balance on our credit card. We're using Disney Visa and want the points! Plus I want to be able to see all my charges when I get home and then pay off card, but thanks;)

The amount is $500 for Value Resorts, $1000 for Moderate Resorts & $1500 for Deluxe / Deluxe Villa Resorts

You are not capped at that amount though. Once you hit the threshold, they charge your card and the amount resets. It should not stop you from charging though

Great idea! It is kind of pain for me to keep tabs on our charges and have to match them up every 2 days or so to make sure everything is correct BUT I'm paranoid when it comes to my money, lol!

The limit you're seeing is the credit limit at the Disney resort and NOT on your card. When you reach that limit, they will charge the card on file. "Cashing out" doesn't mean you're paying it off, merely moving the funds from the Disney Resort account over to whatever card is on file.

As far as raising it, I'll admit that I've never asked, but I don't think there is a way to do it.

For what you do want though, you can get a printout of all charges before it gets balanced out. Once you do cash out, this list would start fresh. So you can just keep a few of these print outs and compare at the end rather than one giant one.

That's what I meant, sorry if I confused anybody. They don't actually cash you out, they just go ahead and push the charges through to the card you have on file so you would still get your Visa rewards if you did that every couple days. Sorry again about the confusion! Thanks for clarifying Cafeen!

When we stayed at the Pop, they did stop us and our friends from charging to the room when we hit $500 until we went to the front desk and then they charged our credit card, bringing our room account back to zero and then we could charge to the room again. I can not say if that applies to moderate or deluxe resorts.

You will still get the points if you use your Disney Visa to pay off your room charges. I guess I am confused: if you are charge to your room you can see your room charges at any point. If you want to see the charges individually when you get home, you can just charge them to the Visa card directly and not to the room account.

Not entirely sure how the rewards cards work, but this method would also potentially allow for the rewards points earlier right? Could be an added benefit hiding in there ;)

What won't work?

When I hit the $500 limit on our recent trip, my KTTW card was "denied" when I tried to buy a PBnJ shake at 50's Prime Time. We paid with cash and then I had to go to the POP front desk to take care of it.

You can also go to guest relations in the parks - I did that last year while at Epcot. They phoned the resort and had me talk to the person on the desk and she put the charge through to our card and reset our balance to zero.

Thank you, I wish I'd know that then!

You can have the room limit raised, but it's very complicated and most CMs are not trained how to do it (plus, it'll take a good portion of your day to get it done, so it's not really worth it). It involves splitting your spending types onto multiple credit cards.

Also - it's a spending limit for your entire trip, not 24 hours.

Once you are near the limit, your room is typically called and you are left a message that you need to visit the front desk or call to 0 out your balance. You can also call from a cell, so save the Resorts phone number in case you get stuck some where. Many Merch locations will call the resort for you, dining is a little more difficult as there are not phones at the tables.

Note - tickets are not applied to a room credit, they are applied directly to the card on file and bypass the spending limit. This is because most ticket purchases are larger than the spending limits. So ticket purchases do not need to be calculated when tracking your room credit.

I'm not understanding what you are thinking won't work for you. You can still have the room charges applied to your Disney Visa and earn the points. You just have to have the resort charge your room balance to your credit card either before or when you hit the charging limit. Then you can go back to charging to your room again. You can still get a printout of all the charges to your room. It will show all the charges, plus the payments where the balance was charged to your Visa.

I've never had trouble hitting the charging limit, but it's just my DD and I traveling and we've never stayed at a value resort so we've always had the higher spending limits.

Rewards are credited when your monthly bill is issued. So if your billing date is in the middle of the week you could get them earlier. If it's not during the week, then it will not matter.

by cashing out your balance I believe the poster is saying you need to go to the desk when your spending limit is reached and they will charge your balance to your card (cashing you out) and then your spending limit starts all over again. All of this will be charged to your card on file - in your case the Disney Visa and you will reap all of the awards. Each time you "cash out" or go to the desk to have them charge your account you will get a print out of all of your expenditures.

Reached our limit last trip and then again on our trip last week. Both times charges were denied at gift shops in the theme parks -- each time salesclerk was able to call my resort (CR and AKL) and I authorized them to charge my cc and reset my credit limit. Took about 10 minutes each time. I knew I was reaching my $1500 limit last week and meant to stop and take care of it before it became an issue.

When DW and I take our extended family (21 plus us) I ask for the manager when checking in and explain $1500 won't do it for us. For this kind of situation they easily change the limits but in my experience it does take a manager and a specific need. Otherwise it is just transfer charges to the card as others mention.

As a previous poster also said it does take 15 or so minutes but it can be done. On the occasions where we have bumped up to the limit just traveling by ourselves we just have the CM call the hotel and authorize the transfer to our Disney credit card. There are times I'll ask front desk or concierge to transfer charges to the card b/c we know an intended purchase will put us over the top.

This process is fairly straightforward and doesn't take much time. Most places will also take your personal plastic should there be a difficulty.

As others have said, the amount you can charge varies with the level of resort you are staying at.
I usually just stop by the front desk every other day or on the 3rd day if I haven't charged much and ask them to run the charges through my credit card.

I put everything on my KTTW card so those charges add up fast. I've had my KTTW card turned down at a restaurant so I paid with the credit card I always have on me and when we got back to the resort had them run the charges through so I could start charging back up on my KTTW card.
