room charging issue?

Plus you can take care of your balances at any hotel. We were staying at Fort Wilderness and hit the limit shopping at Grand Floridian. I went to the GF desk and they took care of it for us. (forget if they increased our limit or charged our card and started over again)

When you hit your limit, your card will be automatically charged on the overnight cycle. If you know you're at the limit, it's best to take care of it rather than be denied during a transaction.

Last trip I called the "front desk" from the room and authorized them to charge me and reset to zero so I could go to DTD and not worry about what I was charging to the room.

We may start using Disney gift cards instead. Still trying to figure out the best way to use them.

Am I missing something?
If you are using your Disney Visa to pay for the room and for charging to your room key, when you reach your limit, can't you just pull out your actual Disney Visa card and charge as much as you want and still get your points? :confused3

I mean, please tell me if I'm not seeing this correctly?

Yes you can do that but for some reason some people prefer to have everything charged to the room and then to the card.

I had a problem once and I just pulled out my credit card and paid then rather than get permission to continue charging at that time.

When we stayed at the Pop, they did stop us and our friends from charging to the room when we hit $500 until we went to the front desk and then they charged our credit card, bringing our room account back to zero and then we could charge to the room again. I can not say if that applies to moderate or deluxe resorts.

You will still get the points if you use your Disney Visa to pay off your room charges. I guess I am confused: if you are charge to your room you can see your room charges at any point. If you want to see the charges individually when you get home, you can just charge them to the Visa card directly and not to the room account.

Right - the charges can still go to your Disney Visa, just in one lump sum, not all the individual charges. It's like the KTTW collects all the tiny charges, and then puts them through the Disney Visa in one big charge. :)

The limits are for the length of stay, not 24 hours. We hit our limit once at Contemporary, and just had to go to the front desk and have them bill the card on file, and we started fresh with a new $1500 limit. Luckily, we were at the resort so we didn't have to go anywhere else to get it done.

We go to the desk at the end of each day (depends on what time we get back, sometimes do it in the morning) and have the card charged off and reset. That way, the KTTW card is ready for the next day.

 too.

Only thing I can think of is if they don't have the card on them to pull out.

Very clever of Disney. That way, they don't have to pay as many transaction fees to the CC company. Smart.:thumbsup2

Transactrion fees area percentage, so I do not know how that helps them unless they are tiered and get less as the amount goes up.

As far as pulling out your credit card it is locked up in the safe in my room. If I loos my wallet, I think it would be easier to deal with getting a new room key than dealing with the credit card company.

because we have no intention of cashing out our balance on our credit card. We're using Disney Visa and want the points! Plus I want to be able to see all my charges when I get home and then pay off card, but thanks;)

I think you think "cash out" means to pay the front desk in cash. Or to actually pay Chase from your checking/savings account.

They are just having the charges actually charged to the card, taking the KTTW balance to zero, so you can start over again.

No one means that it's paying off the charges to Chase, or not paying with your credit card.

I think it's easier if you don't think of your card as being *Disney*; think of it as being a Chase card, so there's no confusion of who you are paying and when.

If I'm buying passes when I get to WDW, I usually put them on my credit card vs my room charge. I just don't need that large an amount sitting there. I have been denied charging priviledges in the past due to exceeding my limit..usually at Pop!! Of course, there was the time at BC. My dh had gone to our bank, before leaving home, to make sure the daily limit was high enough to cover our end of stay expenses. Ok, no problem. However...dh left a few days before dd and I did. So, when I woke up, there was a message telling me that I had to come to the front desk and settle my bill!!! Well...long story short...dh had forgotten the we have different numbers on each of our cards...same account but different numbers (debit cards), and he hadn't had my daily amount lifted!!!!! It was at $500!!! Uh, not close to my balance!!! I called him at home, he went to the bank (thank heavens he was in town), got the limit removed. While he was at the bank, on the phone with me, I went back to the front counter, where the CM had a very snooty attitude..kind of looked like he thought I was trying to pull a fast one on him. Well..he submitted the charges again, with his eyes rolling back in his head. And yep, went through just fine. man, did his attitude change quickly!!!
But, you can just go down to the front desk during your stay and have them charge your credit card then...that will leave you with a zero balance on your room charge...which should be fine for charging.

That might be the situation here. You can get your park tickets on your room key and then have a credit line on there as well so all you need to do is carry one card.

If that's the way the OP wants to do it, then a decision will have to be made as to the possibility of reaching that $1500 limit or carrying the actual card along. Some people like to "downsize" what they carry - I take just a few things with me but I always make sure I have an alternative way of paying, just in case.

Here's a little annoying thing that happened last summer to us.

We checked in online to the Contemporary and had a credit card on file. We didn't get there until after 11 pm due to some ridiculous construction in Washington DC, so we went straight to our room.

Next day, we had dinner at Trail's End. Gave our room key to charge the dinner and the server came back and said it was denied. I went into a full blown panic, this was the FIRST thing we were charging and I was completely convinced that someone had stolen our room key info and had charged madly to our room.

We paid for our meal with our debit card, luckily my DH had grabbed his wallet before we went out because we usually leave it in the safe. I realized I didn't have a number to call other than CRO, so that's what I used. They were really helpful, transferred me to the right place and they solved everything.

Apparently the night person who gave us our key cards forgot to charge our room to our credit card. He didn't want to get in trouble for doing it the next day, so he tried to cover it up by charging it to our room!!! I think it was around $1,450 so of course, our $100 dinner at Trail's End was over the limit!

I was very angry but relieved that it was not a stolen card.

So, the lesson learned is to check and make sure they charge the room at check-in to your credit card and NOT your room key!!

Reached our limit last trip and then again on our trip last week. Both times charges were denied at gift shops in the theme parks -- each time salesclerk was able to call my resort (CR and AKL) and I authorized them to charge my cc and reset my credit limit. Took about 10 minutes each time. I knew I was reaching my $1500 limit last week and meant to stop and take care of it before it became an issue.

This is what happened to us. It was resolved by phone by the salesperson when we hit the limit.

I got turned down, too. I did some shopping.

After a call to the credit card company determined that the scre up wasn't on their end, I took it up with the hotel and it finally got straightened out.

I don't know if you can get the limit upped.

After that, I just quit charging to the room.

The KTTW letdown was actually what finally drove me off the WDW property. Since the park ticket didn't work, I had to carry ID. Since the KTTW charging thing got screwed up, I had to carry credit cards. The lanyard pouch was too full and a pain to deal with.

I'd often thought about going to non-WDW hotels...and the last real WDW perk - not having to carry all that stuff - was gone.

It was my last straw. I didn't know it when it happened. Wasn't like I got supremely pissed and decided right then. But later, when I was making decisions...that was the thing that made me finally say, "Oh, the hell with it."

So, really, in the long run...it was a good thing even though it was a pain at the time.

just returned to DIS to see such a big response to my question! I usually don't carry the actual credit card and that's where we hit the snag last year. Credit card was in the safe in the room and we were dining at Tony's. We took care of it easy enough across Main Street at guest relations.
I guess I didn't understand that "cashing out" meant Disney charging the card and then it re-ups my $1500 limit. Now we'll stop at front desk occassionally to do this. Maybe we will even carry credit card too in case. I guess I assumed Disney charged all charges immediately...silly me :rotfl:

On our last two trips, we charged half of our purchases to the room (like every other one) and the other purchases to a credit card. That way we never reached that limit and didn't have to deal with it.

The last trip I took (October 2011), I used my KTTW card for all charging. POFQ did not deny any charges even after I had hit my "limit". I actually was curious as to what I had spent since it never maxed out (limit was $1000 I believe). I had them print out my charges and it was about $2500 on there already. I asked them to put the charge through.

That said, I ALWAYS carry another type of payment, a little bit of cash, and an ID. I especially don't understand going anywhere without a bit of cash and REALLY don't understand not having your ID. You never know what is going to happen so it is best to be prepared.
