Just wondering how much they will let you charge before they take a payment.I have stayed at the ASMo's in the past and their limit is $500.00 and then they will charge your CC.I know I read a post awhile ago stating it was more at the moderates and deluxes but can't remember the details.
Thanks,
Kim

$1500.00 is the usual charging limit that you can charge to your hotel room (if you leave a credit card)at the deluxe resorts.

When we were there in June and again in October the limit was $1500. However, we reached the limit and tried to make a purchase in Norway. The cm just dialed some central phone #, handed the phone to me and the person on the other end ask a few simple questions: who are you, your room number, do you want to raise the limit another $1500? When our trip was over 2 days later I noted I had not been charged yet for any credit charges incurred - they submitted it all the day we checked out.:Pinkbounc :bounce:

MamaQuack is correct. It is $1500 at a time, all the way up to the credit limit of your credit card. They take pre-authorization at check-in and then run it through when you reach the $1500 amount. If you want to go past $1500, they pre-authorize it again.

Just a note--try to get your room print-out the night before and double-check for any errors. Room charging is convenient but the actual list can be confusing if you use your card a great deal. I found a triple charge from Narcoossee's one trip. They took care of it at the front-desk but it took a while. On check-out morning, you may be in a rush and not notice. Then, you'd have to call a long-distance number once you are home.

:)

Just FYI they don't preauthorize it for the enitre $1500. They only authorize it for $1 to make sure the card is valid and it is an open account. We have been many times with only a few hundred dollars on our credit card at check in and the rest all in cash and travelers checks to keep on us, and we still have gotten the $1500 limit at the deluxes. We leave our card so we can do express check out, but never charge to the room more than we have available on our credit card or in or checking account for our Visa check card. We have logged in via laptop to our online banking immediately after checking in to verify this and sure enough, the only authorization or "hold" on the card was for $1. If they authorized it for the entire amount, then you would have a $1500 hold on your card and be unable to access those funds if you needed them. A couple of the front desk CM's that frequent these boards have explained and veirfied this.

Thanks for the update, Carrie. This is what I have been told in the past but I'm glad to hear that this is really not the case. As always, you always seem to hear different things from different CM's. Thanks for verifying! :)

No problem, there was actually a heated discussion about it awhile back with a few people arguing that Disney would not just give you the $1500 limit with no gurantee that you will have the funds available, but the CM's assured everyone that this is how it has been done and will continue to be done! Apparantly if they run that authorization for a $1 and get an authorization number from it, they can force through any amount using that authorization code therefore guranteeing them their money and alot of hassle for you with your credit card company or bank! Also, if they can't collect, they can lock you out of your room! From what I hear though, no problems ever really arise because most people know how much money they have and are not out to scam Disney!

Here is the breakdown:
$500 for value resorts
$1000 for moderate resorts
$1500 for deluxe resorts.

Once you reach your limit, they will notify you, or just put it on the card that you left and you start over.

It was $1,500 at the AKL in October but we also had a $1,500 limited at CBR last September. Not sure if that was a fluke or the norm?

I think the one at CBR was probably a fluke... we had the $1000 limit there, as well.

How long were you at CBR? I have heard on instances at the moderates of people getting the $1500 limit if they are staying over 8 days. We were at POFQ a couple of years ago for 7 nights and only got the $1000 limit so I was just wondering if maybe the legnth of stay has something to do with it.

You might be right - we were there for 9 nights, 10 days. I bet that's it

We were at CBR for 5 nights, and PO-R and PO-FQ for 7 each. At the WL we got the $1500 spending limit and were there for 7 nights, so it could have something to do with your length of stay!

Is it possible to leave extra cash on your account to charge against if you do not want to use a credit card?

I have never done this but I have heard of people overpaying their deposit and leaving the credit on their ressie. Then they can charge against their credit balance. However, I don't know if Disney would allow you "charging" privileges unless you first secure it with a credit card. As long as the credit was there at checkout, you could still apply it to your purchases. I may be wrong about having to have a card on the account, it is just my speculation.

Yes, you can either send in the cash/travelers checks ahead of time, or give it to the desk when you check in. You will be able to charge to the room, but only the for the amount of cash left, not the preset limit. Also, they will give you back whatever you don't spend when you check out in cash. You cannot do express check out without a cc though, you will have to actually go and check out on your departure day.

Thanks everyone!I thought it was around 1500.00 but wasn't sure!I love the room charging privileges.

At the Poly the CM told us that once we hit $1500, we would automatically be charged that amount and then start over. We did not get a call or have to reauthorize anything. You okay that right at check in.

When we stayed at the Contemporary in June 2000, we tried the room charge card! It was great!!! (A little too easy though!!) We had a $1500 limit - which we hit on our first day when we purchased our APs. When we made a purchase at Epcot, and it was denied, they called the hotel and got it OKd. They told us to come to the front desk when we got back to the hotel. When we got back later that night, we just signed the form and were given another $1500. When we checked out, we were given the list with the charges and everything was fine!
