Just another reason to pay cash instead of using DVC points.Originally posted by rae519
Powers that be at DVC and DCL say it's the fact that dry dock hadn't afforded them the time to complete the refurbishing of the rooms on Deck 5.....
So what is going on with the people sailing on Oct 11th and 18th - are they being moved around like some of us on Oct 25.
I must share the comment from the DVC rep yesterday - he tells me that if "I" make another change that I will have to pay a $75.00 fee. I told him that I didn't want the solid railing and if I had to change, I wanted the same as I had - plexiglass. So he repeats this warning again......okay, was it him or memorex?
Then he tells me that they upgraded me - same size and type room but two decks higher, and I said, "Just put me down on the list for 5622 if they finish it by Oct 25. I don't care if you give me the 8030, I'd still rather the stateroom I've always booked."
He didn't get it that when you travel with a 75 year old woman and an 8 year old child - it is much easier to have the same room each time.
Okay, before I turn into our favorite whiner, I'll end this!!!!!!

Specific to this thread, she would not have any charges if she paid cash rather than having a DVC reservation. Overall though, there are many reasons where cash is better than using points. These include the ability to book about 18 months out (11 months for DVC), cancel without penalty up till 60 days, better room selection, and access to more discounts are all things that come to mind at present. A DVC members actually pays a higher price than simply doing a cash reservation compared to early booking discounts. This is not the first time where a problem on DCL's side was handled far worse for a DVC member than similar situations for some paying cash. Remember the cancelled cruise issues.Originally posted by JLSE50
How would cash have made a difference in this situation?
If the room Rae wanted was not updated in time, it would not be available even if she had paid cash, right?

Rae, you mentioned another person a few posts back. One you didn't want to sound like. This is the issue that got to that peson. She was a new DVC member taking here first jaunt into using DVC by doing the cruise. Then the cancellation. DCL and DVC did not do the DVC members right in that situation. They treated them far inferiorly to the cash paying customers. Since they changed, not you, you should not be charged for fixing the problem they created. Once you agree to a cabin, then the cost is back on you for any changes. I'm sure it will work out and if that cabin is not available, DCL will make it as right as they can. Good luck and enjoy your trip. We'll be doing our first DCL cruise in March.Originally posted by rae519
Dean,
I am in total agreement with you since this has happened. I can not believe how long I had to wait for them to call Disney and discuss this. I find that their system is very flawed in many ways - a charge before the 60 days should NOT be imposed; there should be a program on line to see your points and use years; and we should NOT be treated like second class citizens by either DVC or DCL.
