Room change due to dry dock

WELCOME BACK Rae!!!!!!!! Sure I leave for the weekend and I miss ya comming back!!!! I have no clue about your room but figured I'd say "welcome back" and get this post back to the front!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Powers that be at DVC and DCL say it's the fact that dry dock hadn't afforded them the time to complete the refurbishing of the rooms on Deck 5.....

So what is going on with the people sailing on Oct 11th and 18th - are they being moved around like some of us on Oct 25.

I must share the comment from the DVC rep yesterday - he tells me that if "I" make another change that I will have to pay a $75.00 fee. I told him that I didn't want the solid railing and if I had to change, I wanted the same as I had - plexiglass. So he repeats this warning again......okay, was it him or memorex?
Then he tells me that they upgraded me - same size and type room but two decks higher, and I said, "Just put me down on the list for 5622 if they finish it by Oct 25. I don't care if you give me the 8030, I'd still rather the stateroom I've always booked."

He didn't get it that when you travel with a 75 year old woman and an 8 year old child - it is much easier to have the same room each time.

Okay, before I turn into our favorite whiner, I'll end this!!!!!!

At times.....

Rae::yes::

Cat 5's have metal verandas too? I thought only the far aft cat.6's did? But I guess that makes sense if they are in the same area they would be the same. Sorry to hear of your troubles Rae. But knowing you I am confidant you will still have a fantastic time!! Maybe they should have a plate of shrimp waiting for you in your cabin. :teeth: Oh and a big bowl of mango soup:tongue:
Maybe by the time you get on board things will be straightend out.

Rae -- I hope you end up getting a stateroom that makes you and your mom and son happy.

Question:
Do you know why children and grandparents get along so well?

Answer:
Common enemy!!:earseek:

RAE: Be sure to let us know how it works out!

JRABBIT: I sure hope Rae's Mom and Michael don't gang up on her. With all this room change business, horse issues, hurt fingers and allergy problems this fall, the lady needs a mellow time. (But your comment IS FUNNY! :hyper: )

Leave the fat old lady alone!!!!

Naw, there isn't anything that can bother me now - I'm on a BOSCO high!

Rae

RAE: BOSCO  ???
As in the vitamin enriched drink they used to advertise when I was a kid? As a substitute for Hershey's syrup? I did not know they even made that any more. Is it loaded with sugar so this is really a sugar high?

Have a mellow day!!
Jan :earsgirl:

BOSCO rules!!!!

Might even take some with me on the cruise so I can complain more about my room change and get a milk-BOSCO high in the process.

Amazing what memories Bosco will bring up!~!

Just another reason to pay cash instead of using DVC points.

 How would cash have made a difference in this situation? If the room Rae wanted was not updated in time, it would not be available even if she had paid cash, right?

Jan :earsgirl:

With a DVC point ressie anytime the member makes a ressie change the member has to pay a $75.00 fee.

ANDY: Isn't there a charge if you change your room when you have paid with cash?

I think Rae's point is well taken that this is their change and she should not have to pay. They seemed to agree at first, but when she did not accept the room they gave her and had to do a lot of looking to try to find something acceptable, then the fellow seemed to switch into the "$75 is required" mode.

I thought Dean meant that if she had paid cash they would not have tried to change her room. But, maybe I am missing something. Maybe that is not what Dean meant.

Have a good day,

Specific to this thread, she would not have any charges if she paid cash rather than having a DVC reservation. Overall though, there are many reasons where cash is better than using points. These include the ability to book about 18 months out (11 months for DVC), cancel without penalty up till 60 days, better room selection, and access to more discounts are all things that come to mind at present. A DVC members actually pays a higher price than simply doing a cash reservation compared to early booking discounts. This is not the first time where a problem on DCL's side was handled far worse for a DVC member than similar situations for some paying cash. Remember the cancelled cruise issues.

Dean,
I am in total agreement with you since this has happened. I can not believe how long I had to wait for them to call Disney and discuss this. I find that their system is very flawed in many ways - a charge before the 60 days should NOT be imposed; there should be a program on line to see your points and use years; and we should NOT be treated like second class citizens by either DVC or DCL.

Jan - DVC said that if I changed again they would charge me - go figure that one out!! I will take my original documents with me and when I embark, I will ask for 5622.
I did get charged for changing Mom to Tom for the April 04 cruise. I asked the DVC rep, "What is a person dies?" - the MEMOREX reply was, "If there is any change, then there is a charge."

Okay, clue me in here? Was there a real person or was it Memorex?!

Still wondering if a anyone else had their room changed.

Rae, you mentioned another person a few posts back. One you didn't want to sound like. This is the issue that got to that peson. She was a new DVC member taking here first jaunt into using DVC by doing the cruise. Then the cancellation. DCL and DVC did not do the DVC members right in that situation. They treated them far inferiorly to the cash paying customers. Since they changed, not you, you should not be charged for fixing the problem they created. Once you agree to a cabin, then the cost is back on you for any changes. I'm sure it will work out and if that cabin is not available, DCL will make it as right as they can. Good luck and enjoy your trip. We'll be doing our first DCL cruise in March.

Dean, respectfully, her postings were about a cancelled trip that she was upset about her personal compensation for - not a DCL change that required a room change. Things may not have been fair for all concerned but her issues was personal compensation. It was and is my understanding that all involved with this change had some challenges and Disney did provide some compensaiton, whether it was equal or in an individual's judgement "enough" - I can't say. Our Western last year was diverted due to a Hurricane - yes, we had excursions planned but we just "went with the flow" so to speak.
Life is full of disappointments - we just have to learn how to deal with them.

In my situation, I had not agreed to the room change - I was told this is what you now have. I wasn't asking compensation or an upgrade, just give me what I paid for! I paid for a plexiglass balcony and did NOT want a solid one - due to safety concerns for my now 8 year old son having to stand up to see the water.

I found it insulting when the DVC rep repeatedly state that if "I" made another change I would have a fee. I was and am happy with the room I requested and had booked - and if it's available when I get to port, I'll be back there!

Happy days,

Rae
