Room at Kidani with elderly Mom

Taking Mom to Kidani and wondering the best rooms to request, so she doesn’t have to walk as far. We will have our own car and can pick her up at a lobby if necessary. Thanks

Your best bet would be to word your request "close to lobby".

If it's really going to be an issue you may want to just rent her a scooter. Since, despite what you request some of the rooms are really, really far from the lobby. We stayed there in Oct and we were. One of our group strained his knee during the trip and the walk was impossible. We called to get him a scooter, otherwise, he'd have never made it out.

That or you can use one of the side stairs down and park your car near wherever your room is each time, so there is never a need to trek to the lobby if you are always driving anyway. We were taking the bus so had to go to the lobby.

I think everyone wants to be close to lobby. Don't think that will help much. Of course you may luck out and get one close. I mean somebody gets those rooms (not us ...grumble grumble LOL)

What are your plans for the parks? If the resort walk is too long, how will she cope in the parks? Just getting from your car to the front gate of parks can be a hike.

The last time at kidani our room was right at the end and closer to jambo Lobby. We felt like it was about the equivalent of 3 blocks. Get a scooter or wheel chair. Your chance of getting close to lobby is very small.

I've done that both times I've stayed at Kidani. The first time I was in the very furthest pod, and it was an incredibly long walk. So the next time I asked at the front desk, "Is this near the lobby?" and I was assured it was. We were in the fourth pod and the whole family talks about how long the walk seemed. Unfortunately, that's my biggest knock on Kidani-the long walks.

I can echo the suggestion of getting a scooter. I have a similar situation with my mother and she had one last year and it just made it so much easier for her even though we stayed at Boulder Ridge at the time and were close to transport, you never have to worry about being "too far" from anything, at least not in her case. We are actually doing Kidani this year and though I intend to ask for something closer to lobby/transportation still, I'm not as worried if it just means that I and others in party have to walk it and she doesn't. I'm more concerned with being on the proper savannah so the giraffes are visible.

LOL... I hope you've made prior arrangements with said giraffes.
Being on the savannah with them and their cooperating to be visible are 2 very different things.
We were on their savannah this past Oct and in 5 days they came around 1 time and they were VERY far when they did

Ha. Yeah, I know they can be hit or miss but I stayed there on business a couple of years ago and they were always out and close by when I did. I realize I probably got lucky at the time but from what I know, there are two savannahs at Kidani and one of them is always giraffe free. My family is big on giraffes so they want to at least have the chance to see them outside the room. If you have the wrong savannah, you don't even have that chance.

With parking under the building, you can park close to the elevator closest to your room. She could just take the elevator down with you at KV and walk to your car. But if you are going to the parks, you'll want to get her either a scooter if she can drive one or a wheelchair that you could push her around the parks. What age is your elderly mom?
