I forget exactly which ones but there are multiple ones that cover a spouse or domestic partner so it's not a second driver it's usually what relation an additional driver is to you. I know Alamo for instance doesn't care one way or another if they are your spouse they will charge you for it. On the other hand Avis will not charge for a spouse.Do you need a second driver? Agencies generally have an extra charge. AAA rates generally include an extra driver. COSTCO rates generally include an extra driver. If you need a second driver include that in your cost analysis.
*This if for when booking directly through the company. Some companies will waive the additional driver fee if you are part of their rewards/loyalty program (which often but not always is free).
