I searched the board, but didn't see anything about getting to DLP from Rome.

We have a 2 week European tour next year. It was originally starting and ending in London. I had the train from London to DLP sorted out, but due to Covid/Brexit/or something else, the tour now start and ends in Rome. What is the most convenient and cost effective way to get to DLP from there? Train, fly to CdG or something else?

Thanks

I would think the train would be the cheapest. There are some low cost European airlines, but they don't usually fly from the bigger cities.

By train it takes really too long. You'd have to take the high speed train to Milan, then change and take a train to Paris. I don't think it's worth it, it's a full day travel.
From Rome to Paris flying is the cheaper and faster option. Actually it depends on the number of bags you want to check in.

Anyway, Rome has 2 airports: Fiumicino is the main hub, Ciampino is where Ryanair flies from.
Fiumicino is better connected with public.transport (there is a costly direct train from the city center or a cheaper slower train). Ciampino is a nightmare with public transport, but not far from the city centre so cheaper by taxi.
The problem is not Ciampino, but the fact that Ryanair in Paris lands in Beauvais which is far outside Paris and on the opposite side than DLP.

From Charles de Gaulles there is an high speed train to DLP, from Orly there is a shuttle bus, it takes around 1 hour.

Thanks @zavandor

I was looking into Eurorail (and other train) options. I didn't realize it was a 12-14 hour trip. It seems the flights from Rome to CDG are fairly cheap. Not as cheap as Beauvais, but the train to DLP from CDG is worth the extra cost. I'll probably go that approach. I'm familiar with the train from CDG to DLP.

The train within Europe can be more expensive than you think.

It could be that by next year the Shuttle from CDG to DLP has been reinstated. I prefer the train, but the irregular schedule is annoying.
I would pay a bit more and go with a 'decent' airline like Air France or Alitalia over a Ryanair. Not just because all the hidden costs, but also the labor problems they have.

We recently flew Air France from Barcelona to CDG. After factoring all of the nickel and dime fees and transportation costs from Orly or Beauvais for the "low-cost" airlines, it was the cheapest option and still less than $130 round-trip per ticket (less than I normally pay shorter flights from Sacramento to LA). We rented a car from Sixt at CDG for transport to DLP (4-day rental worked out cheaper than round-trip shuttle or TGV tickets and allowed us to stay at Davy Crockett resort for significantly less than Newport Bay).

Thank you for this. I hadn't considered renting a car. We don't have resort reservations at DLP yet. I'm working with a travel agent on the Disney details. She has sent details on a number of places, both on site and near by. The 2 week tour we are taking prior to DLP is already setup.

Am I missing something Who changed the Start from London to Rome ?

If you are doing it yourself then Start at Amsterdam or Brussels Or Cologne

And Hire a car and away you go Motorway all the way to outskirts of Paris ( DLP side )

Or Take International train from Amsterdam Airport to Paris

The tour company that we are doing a 12 day "European Escape" tour with. 7 countries, 12 days. We booked last year before Covid for July/August this year. Back in January, it was apparent that travel would still be restricted by this July so we moved the trip to next year. The tour company allowed me to rebook at the same price. In 2019, before Brexit was complete and Covid was a thing, the tour started and ended in London. In the last month, the tour company sent a notice that GB would be removed from the tour and it would start and end in Rome. The tour always had 2 days in Rome. It was just in the middle of the 12 days. (The tour didn't include anything in GB except picking up and dropping off at the end. )
GB is the only non-Schengen country on the tour. I suspect Brexit probably was the reason for the change and not Covid, but the rest of the tour is the same itinerary.

At the end of the organized tour, I was going to spend a few days at DLP on our own, since we have never been. I had looked into how to get to DLP from London (easy on the train), but having to get to DLP from Rome didn't seem quite as easy.

Thank you for the informative reply .

Now with your 2 days extra in Rome why not take a trip to The Isle of Capri ?

Your Hotel in Rome would have the information

It is a local tour co. that collects people , from hotels , & then drives to Naples & then you take the highspeed ferry to Capri . A Guide is with you all day.

Note .... this is a general public tour so there could be many international people on it

There are many other day tours also from Rome

If you really wish to visit a theme park ,in Rome ,

then look up Rainbow Magicland at Valmontone on A1 E45 Road about 25 miles from Rome

We are Disney freaks, so DLP is what we will be sure to see. I didn't know Rainbow Magicland existed. I'm pretty self conscious about not speaking the local language and I know zero Italian. I know a bit of French and enough Spanish to be polite, but that's it. I don't want to be one of the "ugly Americans". I travel a lot and I hate it when the really rude people are all speaking English, and not with a British accent.

We have never been to Rome, so I'll probably hit the big tourist things and maybe find some out of the way shops and restaurants. Two days will go quick.

Magicland is a small regional park. It has a couple ot notable attractions (a very good interactive dark ride and a clone of Rip Ride RockIt coaster but with a launch instead of a lift), but it has gone through financial troubles and a lot of effects on rides are not working and some theming has not been maintained well. It's a fun day out, but with all the things to see and do in Rome it's far from a priority for someone who is used to Disney parks.
