This company has been recommended by several fellow DIS members for Rome and Naples/Pompeii.

Thinking about using them for La Spezia port for Florance and Pisa. Anyone use them for this port?

Would love feedback about this company.

Thanks!

We used them only for car service in and out of Rome; we did not do the whole day tour package with them. I thought they were great--punctual, organized, and professional. I plan to use them again next year.

We used them in Naples and Rome in 2010 and they were fabulous. Both days the drivers were friendly, knowledgeable and really nice. The driver for Naples stopped on a road side fruit stand near Positano and bought us the most delicious grapes we have ever eaten. He said he just had to share! The driver in Rome had a great guidebook with overlays that the kids found really interesting.

In short, I wouldn't hesitate to use them again nor would I even look for another company.

Also, we hired through Rome in Limo guides for Pompeii and the Vatican. Again, both were fun, engaging and really smart.

Good luck!

I get the impression thy drive you where you want to go. Not necessarily an arranged tour. Is this accurate?

Yes, that is true. They are not certified tour guides. They are known as Driver/Guides and they are not allowed into the sites with you as a guide. The better drivers will give you a great overview before you enter the site or as you are driving there. You have an option for an extra fee to add a full day certified tour guide or one just for a specific site. For example, last summer we used drivers for all of our ports and added certified tour guides for the Colosseum and for Pompeii.

I do have to add that we absolutely loved the freedom and flexibility of having a private driver. We used Rome in Limo for Pisa and Lucca, Rome and Naples. We could tailor our day the way we wanted... add a few extra Gelato stops if we saw the kids getting a bit burnt out. Choose whether we wanted a sit down lunch or something quick on the run. The drivers were engaging and great with our 3 DDs.

Rome in Limo is very popular with the Cruise Critic members. Below is the link to the massive( it's been going since 2009) Rome in Limo thread on the Italy port of call board.

Hi there, I’m a newbie and I can’t find a thread for sharing my experience hope this is quite good as well.
I’m in Italy right now sailing toward Livorno :boat: and for the tour from the dock of Civitavecchia port me and my family used a very efficient touring service called: Rudy’s private tours. We found him through Tripadvisor he’s very kind with great knowledge in his field. In 6 hours we have visited the colosseum, capitol hill, pantheon, trevi fountain, Spanish steps, Vatican museum and Sistina chapel. While we were in Vatican museums he talk to us about roman culture and art. He fascinated us by his grounding and historical tales furthermore the tariff includes the Vatican guide.
I suggest to everyone call him for a tour from the dock of Civitavecchia to Rome. Loved it! :thumbsup2

We did an Italian Med cruise (on a different line then Disney - Oceania) and used Rome in Limo with other groups for 5 excursions and port transfers.

I never wrote a review on the cruise critic thread that was linked above, because I had some positive and a little negative reviews. And also, I never wrote to RIL of any dissatisfaction, because overall they were good, some was outstanding, and I dont get too worked up about things.

Overall, they were very good. We started off with a problem, on arrival from our flight, we could not find our RIL driver for maybe an hour. I am not sure if he was late, or if we could not find him in the crowd. (my suspicion is he was late) Its a little disconcerting, especially as I was the organizor of all the tours with RIL, and it was for groups of 4 - 8, so I felt the pressure to have things perfect.

We did a day trip to Asissi from our rome hotel with RIL- this one was a disappointment - but mostly because the towns we went to were too far apart, and spent most of the time in the car. We spent a lot of time at a church at our first destination, and I could tell our driver was getting anxious because we may have been behind schedule, I told him to relax, we could just cut off the last destination, and spend more time in Asissi (I know I am butchering the spelling of that town) - but the driver seemed determined to do it all. I think that although it feels like they tailor the agenda to suit your needs, it really is a set thing, with a couple of minor deviations - there was definitly an agenda. He was a very nice guy, and I liked him, but perhaps there was a language thing going on, because we couldnt slow him down. Just, not a great day, it had some real hilights, but it was a little frustrating.

We had a Church day in Rome, and it was good, but not great, I think our guy was new to rome in limo, and we spent an hour trying to find/park for lunch. It just did not seem to be a fantastic day, like I had anticipated, from reading that big thread on cruise critic. Maybe over expectation?

Our transfer from Rome to port - we had an older gentleman from RIL who could not really speak english at all, and thank goodness we were all able transfer our luggage, I would not want him to pick it up. He also did not know which port terminal to go to, so we spend some frustrating time trying to find it. (now to be fair, it probably was only about 20 or 30 minutes, but you know how it is to be so close to that dream vacation, you get anxious so it felt like hours)

The guy we had in Liverno was outstanding, it was a perfect day (we did small tuscan villages, it was his home turf, and it was freakin amazing- want more details I can give them. Maybe the best day in the whole 17 days in Italy)

We did the sicily tour with them as well, the godfather tour - it was great as well. Actually, it was amazing. Loved it. Highly recommend it!!

Overall, I wondered if RIL was getting too popular, and with the addition of some new driver/guides, and the fact that whoever took us to the port at the beginning of our cruise was someones dad, I just felt like we got the short end of the stick a couple of times. It was ok, not terrible, but not fantastic. I dont know if on that thread on CC regarding RIL has any negative reviews in the last year, it would be interesting to see if anyone felt the way I did. I wondered if they were growing too big, too fast. KWIM?

Our cruise was last September, so maybe things are fantastic again, or maybe not as perfect. I would recommend this company as far as being reputable, you should have no worries putting your money down. It will be good. Sometimes great. Hopefully no disappointments. Many people have only had fantastic service, so we might have been a little unlucky. You can see my problems were fairly minor , but enough to flavour my opinion- I have tried to give a very fair review.

We used them for Florence/Pisa (Francesco) and Rome (Lucca) in 2009. I have recommended them many times and will use them again when we go back. It was like touring with flexible friends who happen to be incredibly knowlegable and fun.

Rome is great place to explore, Our last trip was so Awesome. All credit goes to Rudy having a Private Car Tour service in Rome, Livorno and Naples. He made our trip so memorable through his historical tales.

Cheers

Thank you for the insight and the link. We decided to use them in Rome and Naples. Going to use DCL for La Spezia

Kerry - did you already book it? That is exactly what we will be doing. If you haven't booked yet, I would suggest booking both at the same time so that you get the discount for multiple bookings.

We also added the private guide in Pompeii and Vatican.

I did the group sharing booking. Can you get a discount using them that way? We have 3 spots available so I figured I would try that route. Set them up back to back.

I wasn't even aware there was a group sharing option so I'm not sure how the discount would work. We got $50 off each location when we booked 2 tours.

50 euros or dollars? Either way, if we go together it is cheaper to share then get the discount. Which tours did you pick?

We took DCL in the Med last Aug. We used Rome in Limo for Rome and Naples. They were amazing! We chose the "kid-friendly" tour for both and had great drivers who were great with our son. Our best day of the cruise was with Tony in Naples. We had a beautiful drive along the Amalfi Coast and then went to pizza making school in Sorrento!

If you use them in Rome, I highly recommend also hiring the guide in the Vatican. She (Brayden) was great and we never would've been able to see as much as we did without her. Seems like a lot of money, when you're already paying so much, but it's definitely worth it.
