Romantic/Fun Chicago Weekend?

We are doing a mini-moon this weekend, and, due to gas prices, I am thinking of going to Chicago. I'd like to go to The Italian Village and maybe do a carriage ride (both cliche and touristy, I know). What about shows? I've seen Blue Man and would like to take dh, but I know that is out of the Loop. What should we do? Where should we stay? I've never stayed downtown, only gone for the day. Thanks!

We love the pier--you could take a ferris wheel ride. Romantic if you don't have 3 kids along rocking it!!!

I don't know about any of the other shows in Chicago right now, but we just returned from a weekend there. We saw Wicked! AWESOME!!

Also, ask the locals where to eat.

We spent our 20th wedding annivesary there in March and had a great time.

We stayed at the Whitehall Hotel on our DVC points....it was GREAT! Our room included breakfast and happy hour and was right off Mich. Avenue. We went to a comedy show at Second City the first evening.

For our dinner, we went to Gibson's Steak House. Wonderful food and service, and they have a nice piano bar.

We also did a jazz Sunday Brunch that was fun.

The pier was closed, but we look forward to bringing our son there in better weather.
