My husband and I will be going to SSR for a long weekend for our 10th anniversery. This is a total spur of the moment thing (without the kids, for the first time anywhere -ever!). We will be going back to Disney 3 weeks later with the kids for our usual yearly pilgrimage! I am looking for some suggestions for this alone time with the hubby.

1) What is the most romantic place for dinner? Does not have to be super fancy, just wonderfully magical!

2) Has anyone done the Keys to the Kingdom tour? Does it spoil the "magic" at all? Since this is our only chance to be in Disney without the kids, I thought it might be interesting!

3) Any other ideas?

Thanks everyone!

The upstairs dining room at Wolfgang Puck's is amazing. It looks out onto the lake at DTD and over to SSR. Ask for a window seat. We ate dinner there in November and SSR kept looking better and better.

1. You might enjoy Artist's Point at WL. It has great cuisine and a wonderful view of Bay Lake.

2. We haven't done "Keys to the Kingdom" tour, but everyone who has seems to think it's a great tour. But if you're like us, we don't really want to know all the "behind the scenes" stuff. How about a Segway tour at EPCOT instead? I hear those are a blast.

Enjoy your trip! :)

I heard the california grill is great during the fireworks, did not know about it untill after kids and it is one thing I wish I did with my hubby before them. it is on top of the contemporary. Maybe the nightime LUau, Vicoria and alberts sounds nice but I dont like to get to dress up on vacation.

Most romantic, but not cheap - Victoria and Albert's
My favorite - Yachtsman, but many like Schula's
Other good choices - Narcoosee's, California Grill or Artist Point

One day I'm going to try to get my husband down to WDW on a trip just for the two of us, but our daughter might hate us forever if we go without her!

My wife and I always get a babysitter for one night and have a "date" at the MGM Brown Derby. We love old Hollywood lore, so the atmosphere and the caricatures on the wall are great fun. Cobb Salad was invented by the original Brown Derby chef, and it's quite a bit different from what's served under that name around America today. It's very finely chopped (riced) to the point that you can eat it with a spoon, and is it delicious! The grapefruit cake dessert is also a Hollywood tradition that's not to be missed. In between there are many good entrees to choose from; I like the rack of lamb, which is very light and delicate.

When my parents come with us to WDW my dh and I get some "date" time. We did the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. Honestly, I don't think we learned much that we didn't already know...but we met some nice folks and got to see some characters "headless". LOL. Lets just say we laugh every time we hear Pinnochio say "I'm a real boy!" in the parade. We snicker to each other and say "no you're not!" We enjoyed the tour and I don't think it took away from the magic at all. It was interesting to find that backstage is not much different than any workplace...it reminded me of the factory where I used to work.

We've only had dinner alone at Artist Point and California Grill. I believe the next place on our list is Jiko. Oh, we did try to have a "romantic" meal at the Coral Reef years ago, before kids. It was not in the least bit romantic. But I highly recommend Artist Point and California Grill. Le Cellier is also wonderful, and I think Nine Dragons could also be romantic...oh, and The Brown Derby too. But we've only been to those places as a family.

Have a great time!

I vote for the California Grill during the fireworks. They dim the lights a bit, or you can go outside on their observation area. Food is great, atmosphere not quite so "parkish". It has become a yearly tradition for us.

Ah, too many choices! We are really partial to Victoria and Albert's, it would be my top choice for a romantic celebration. However, it is quite pricey. My DH would suggest the California Grill, and the fireworks view is really nice, I had to agree. But (and I know a number will disagree with this one), I personally fell in love with Tony's Town Square in MK for romance. Maybe it was just because on our first experience there we had a really good waiter, but something about it just really "caught" me. We really enjoyed the food, and found the front part of the dining room to be quite charming. Or, even better, the outdoor seating in the front of the building, where you get the view of the front of the park, is fabulous, in my opinion. And a lot less costly than the other 2 options. Call me crazy, but I like it! :earsgirl:

We just got back from 11 days in Florida. One of the nights was a romantic evening out (just the 2 of us). We stayed in a studio at SSR. The agenda included...

-- Tour of SSR (hadn't seen it previously)
-- Couples aromatherapy massage at SSR (Very relaxing)
-- Other Stuff ;)
-- Dinner at Wolfgang Pucks express (I know it's not the "real" Puck's, but we really wanted to get to a movie and it was very good and not outrageously priced)
-- Movie at AMC; and
-- Shopping at the Disney Marketplace

We have previously done romantic dinners at California Grill, Portabello Yacht Club, Le Cellier, Flying Fish, and Fultons. Of these, California Grill is the most romantic (especially after sundown). The other restaraunts are all very good and could be romantic. CG just can't help itself being romantic (interestingly, we ate on the Disney Wonder in Palo, which is similarl in architecture to CG and is equally romantic).

We enjoyed Keys to the Kingdom. We found that when we took it (about 8 years ago...it made us even more avid WDW fans!)

Enjoy!

Narcoosee's is an excellent choice, esp. if you get a window table overlooking the lake. It's a smaller restaurant, and smaller usually means less noise, and more intimacy.

Congratulations on the 10 year anniversary. My DH and I celebrated 10 years in September, we also went without the kids. It was wonderful! We did the keys to the kingdom tour, it did not take any of the magic away, in fact I was a little bummed because I already knew a lot of the stuff. I guess I watch the travel channel too much. I am glad that we did the tour, because I have wanted to for such a long time. I say go for it. Our favorite meal that week was actually tea at the GF. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks so much for the replies. I think we are going to pass on the keys to the kingdom tour. Sometimes I already think I know too much. I really don't want to know how they do the magic, I just want to experience it.

Is there any benefit to telling anyone that it is our 10 year anniversery? I know they sometimes do things for birthdays. We are staying at Saratoga. I assume it won't make a difference there.

How about:

Pack a picnic dinner and sit on a beach across from the MK during the fireworks.

Simple, low cost, and eligant.

of course, you can charter a private boat for the lagoon to watch the fireworks as well :lovestruc

Good Luck!

It can't hurt to tell CMs that it's your anniversary. Even if they only respond with a cupcake and a candle, the little bit of festivity is still fun.

We are going in May for our 15th anniversary. We're going with friends who are also DVC members, and who were married EXACTLY one week before us. We're both celebrating 15 years. We're staying at SSR. We plan to do the spa treatments (ladies - while the boys golf), dinner at Yachtsmans Steakhouse, Cirque de Soliel, and Epcot for a day (with Illuminations). We'll only be there for 3 nights, but feel what we have planned is more than enough. We want to have time to lounge by the pool and visit Pleasure Island, too.

Have a wonderful Anniversary!

We celebrated our 20th last September. We spent our actual anniversary at the California Grill, then the next night my DH surprised me with a private dining experience at the Grand Floridian. It was amazing. We ate outside on the 3rd floor balcony. We had our own butler and order off the private dining menu. Then we went on a wishes fireworks cruise. It was the most romantic night we have ever had.

I went on the Keys to the Kingdom tour last summer with my sister and her family. It was GREAT, I would highly recommend it.

This summer when we go sans kids I want to try Jiko and Artist Point.

Have a great time!

We're celebrating our 25th in May, and I'm treating my honey to anything she wants at Cosmic Ray's Starligt Cafe! :rotfl2:

Seriously, we really enjoy 'Ohana at the Polynesian - going to try to time it for Wishes and ask for a window seat....

How about the kitchenette in a 1BR?

If you don't mind my asking. How ridiculously expensive is the private dining experience at the GF?

There will be NO cooking for me on this trip! Not even toast in the room!
