I cannot belive that there are actually people signing petitions and speaking out about letting this guy off!! He raped a 13 year old girl!!! I don't care how long ago it was, he needs to answer for his crime. Then you have Whoopi Goldberg saying "it wasn't "rape rape". She disgusts me. Really Whoopi, it would be fine with you for some 40 year old man to drug your 13 year old daughter and rape her? Then you have Woody Allen signing the petition demanding Polanski's release. Hmm, I guess pedophiles need to stick together.

Wait, Whoopi is a pedophile??

If this were an average Joe off the street, it would be a different story. Because Roman Polanski is famous, people want to give him a pass. What he did was wrong and he should have done his time in jail a long time ago.

I didn't hear Whoopi's comments but in my book, if you drug anyone and have sex with them, it's rape. Plus, throw in there the fact that she was a minor.

We did a "Whaa?!" upon reading Woody Allen signed the petition. Roman has to be "please, don't help me" on that point.

Bottom line is that he has been running. The longer you run and get away with it doesn't mean they should just change their minds and let you go. Just because you are famous they shouldn't let you go. He should have just faced the music years ago instead of running away.

I hope he gets a fair trial.

I don't see the outrage. It happened 32 years ago, the "girl" is now 45 years old and received an undisclosed settlement amount at the time. I believe I read an article a few days ago when this story broke where even she says "for heavens sake, just drop it!!"

It's obvious that Roman Polanski hasn't been out there raping other girls or the news would have surfaced by now. He obviously isn't a danger to society and the only ones screaming for blood are the ones who are typically screaming for blood no matter who's face is on the front of the paper.

This case should be closed and the resources that are being wasted trying to "get" Roman Polanski should put to better use.

Wait, Whoopi is a pedophile??

I think she is referring to woody allen ( as in they stick together)

i agree that drugging and having sex with a minor is rape no matter what you want to call it.

and don't even get me started on how he fled to France and they would not extradite him

As justification for his dispicable acts, I've heard people on TV saying "It was consensual, it wasn't rape." Now, I have to say that I've not looked into it more, so I don't know if it was consensual or not, BUT THAT IS NOT THE POINT!! There is a very good reason we have laws on the books about statutory rape. A 13-year old, in my mind, cannot give consent to a man in his 40s. The whole thing just makes me sick. :headache:

No kidding, it's completely disgusting. I'm really disgusted at the celebrities that are signing the petition. WTH is wrong with them???? Hello, I don't care if he "raped" or just had sex with a 13 year old; either way still wrong, still against the law, still disgusting and even if he would have been sentenced to the 18 months (or whatever he "thought" the judge was going to give him) it's still VERY lenient for what he did. No one would ever be signing petitions for him if he was just a regular guy. It's completely disgusting.

He should be brought back to the states and should receive a fair trial. He drugged the girl, raped her, and then ran away. He absolutely should not be allowed to get away without being punished criminally. Of course, Woody Allen doesn't think there's anything wrong with what he did  and Whoopi Goldberg is a nutcase.

That's a really sad mindset. Well since he "paid off" the victim, then okay let him go. The punishment with rape of a minor isn't to pay a fine. I don't care if the victim says she's fine and would like to see it dropped. HELLO folks, it's not the victim against the pedophile (that's what civil court is for.) It's the state of CA against him, and obviously for good reason. There's also no way you can say he hasn't been out there raping kids, you have no idea, he's been running through different countries for decades, who knows what the heck he's been doing, not that it changes the facts of what he did 32 years ago. Not only did he rape a 13 year old, but he also then failed to appear in court and fled the country...more crimes committed, yet ppl. want to let him go???? Great example to set:sad2:.

Well I have to disagree with you on this one. I am not 'screaming for blood". I am saying that I am disgusted by people having the attitude of oh well, it was a long time ago so we should just forget about. Does that go for the priests who abused children years ago? He needs to answer for the crime he admitted committing all those years ago. He was a big enough 'man' to drug and rape a child 32 years ago, now he needs to be man enough to face the music.

In an age when few things shock me, I am shocked that prominent people are publicly demanding that Polanski not be punished for his crime. Drugging and raping a 13 year old girl is a serious crime. No one is above the law.

Also, and I forgot this in my post, there are other countries that either have a lower age of consent than we do or where this particular crime wouldn't be treated as seriously as it is over here. He could very easily have been indulging in pedophilia overseas without it being known.

Woody Allen signing the petition :rotfl2::lmao: that is one of the funniest things I've heard all week. Maybe Woody should be his official advocate in this matter.

Which is kind of like Jeffrey Dahmer speaking on behalf of Charles Manson. Not that rape and murder are equivalent, but you get the point.

Woody has to be a full fledged freak to thing there is nothing out of the ordinary about him having an affair with Mia's adopted young daughter, that is wrong on so many levels.

OP, I'm not sure why you dragged Whoopi into this. I saw her on The View and she was simply trying to get the fact out there that the actual outstanding "charge" against him for which he is being extradited is not for rape.
"Polanski was later charged with rape and five other felonies before later pleading guilty to a lesser charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, partly to spare Mrs Geimer the trauma of having to go through a trial." [http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...-dropped.html]

She was not saying that he should not be held accountable, shouldn't be punished, that he should serve no time for his crime. She was literally trying to make sure that the viewers and panel had their facts correct and not keep saying he should serve time because he 'raped'. Regardless of what happened, he is NOT being brought back on rape charges. That's all she was doing and people do need to get their facts straight. She was in NO way supporting him at all.

I can understand how the victim must feel, having this brought up all over again and her desire to be finished with it, but, I would like to see him serve SOME jail time for the 'unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor' charges that are pending against him.

What do you call having a 'relationship' with a 15 year old?

This case should not be closed. He should rot in jail until he takes his last breath. And to suggest that it should be let go is beyond disgusting.

I can pretty much guarantee this was not the only time he raped a young girl/woman. People like him just don't work that way.

yeah, cuz like whoopi said....it wasn't "rape rape"................:confused3
how can anyone ever justify that comment? sorry, i just disagree and i am pretty disgusted by that comment. this is a family place so i can't get too graphic. but do i really need to explain what rape is? it's very simple.:headache:

I was shocked when I heard Debra Winger saying the charge was just a "technicality". He drugged, raped and sodomized a 13 year old girl - for heaven's sake don't justify it in anyway.

BTW - do I remember correctly that her mother brought the girl to Polanski and left him alone with her? Some mother.

But the problem is - he is NOT BEING CHARGED WITH RAPE! Regardless of what you think he should be charged with, he is not being charged with that, so it is a moot point. Should you be outraged that the system let him plea to a lesser degree - absolutely. We all agree that that is the charge that he should be up against, but, it's not. Whoopi was not saying the girl was not raped, she was simply trying to make sure that viewers understood that no matter how you feel about it, he is not going to be punished for "rape."
