Anyone else notice a total lack of 80's singers on rolling stones greatest singers.
Allison Moyet? Rober Smith? Depeche Mode Guy?
I think Morisay and Annie Lenox made the 90's

I know this is not a popular thing to say, but I think Paul McCartney was the best singer of the Beatles.

That list looks totally arbitrary. Surely it wasn't based on reader votes, was it? Or on actual voice quality or skill.

That list looks totally arbitrary. Surely it wasn't based on reader votes, was it? Or on actual voice quality or skill.

Here is how the list was arrived at...

Voters
Each voter was asked to list his or her 20 favorite vocalists from the rock era, in order of their importance. Those ballots were recorded and weighted according to methodology developed by the accounting firm of Ernst & Young, which then tabulated and verified the results for Rolling Stone.

I thought of an 80s singer I liked ....well..dunno if he's truly 80s...
but Phil Collins was and is still amazing...

Is anyone else surprised that Elvis isn't on the list???

ETA: Oh, there he is......all the way near the top at #3.TY ANewman for pointing out what I obviously missed.

What were they smokin'? Elvis #3? I LOVE Aretha, she's an awesome talent and very sweet lady.....but ELVIS #3??? Don't get me wrong, I'm not disrespecting the others. I'm just very, very surprised.

I agree. Aside from Ella Fitzgerald I think Elvis was the greatest voice I have ever heard.
And without a doubt miles better with more versatility than Ray Charles.
I am a huge Ray Charles fan, but to me they are not even in the same league.
I really do not know enouugh Aretha Franlin, but the songs I do she is amazying.

Who? Who? And, ah, c'mon - if you don't know his name, how do you know he's not on the list? :umbrella::teeth:

How does Art Garfunkel make the list, but not Paul Simon? (Unless he's on there and I missed it - it's early, but I've looked twice)

And is that the list of people who voted that Anewman posted? Hmmmmm.

DAVID GAHAN!!! I LOVE HIM!!! I am a total DM junkie - have been for about 20 years now!! He has the best voice ever!
