Rolling backpacks seen in parks

Bringing a rolling backpack isn't breaking the rules perhaps, but the ones filling them with groceries and beverages are. Now that guests will start complaining about problems with abundant rolling backpacks Disney will have to have their security staff check them and turn the people with food away. Because that IS against the rules. And I don't have a problem with bringing cheese and crackers in so those that do - you're not who I am directing this to...it's people who want to bring in a load of things they can either leave in a locker (that's why DW has them you know!) or buy at the park. Most people who bring rolling backpacks I'm sure have no intention of trying to run into anyone but it happens because it can be hard just to walk by yourself in crowds. If what you do in the parks affects noone then you have nothing to worry about but the attitude of "This is my vacation and I'll do what I want and bring what I want and to heck with the others around me" is....you can fill in the blank.

Get it straight. I never once said the heck with everyone else. And rolling backpacks aren't the only way to bring lots of food in. There are other types of containers capable of bringing food in aside from rolling backpacks. So give me a break on the cheap people who want to bring all the food in, and try to make a valid point instead. You have no idea what people bring into the park.

For those concerned that they will get in your way... so will strollers, wheelchairs, children, and the stupid, ignorant, and rude people. Get over it. All you can do is make sure that you are not one of the stupid, rude or ignorant people.

edit: Security checks all bags on the way into the parks already, btw.

Puritan, you said: "A vacation should be about enjoyment, not ease. My rolling backpack allows me to bring the things that I like to have to enjoy myself. I enjoy taking lots of pictures of my family, and my life. And I enjoy being able to be comfortable when the temperature goes from 40 degrees in the morning up to 70+ during the day. Shame on you for thinking that everyone should adjust to your desires. This is my vacation, not yours!"

That's where I got the "To heck with everyone else" thoughts. What other people do when they're in WDW DOES affect other people. I DID make a valid point. If there is a real REASON (like medical) to have a rolling backpack then fine. Bringing lunch in isn't, and they built those lockers to put your sweatshirt and other items in so why make walking through congested parks (especially MK and AK) more hazardous than it already is? I have yet to be in WDW that I didn't see someone trip or fall over strollers, ECV's, rude people who stop to look at their maps in the middle of the "path". Why possibly add to that when it is unnecessary? That's my point. Why? You have said that I make no valid point but you have yet to answer why you don't store the items you aren't comfortable carrying in a rented locker where you can go back any time to retrieve?

Well, I have a wagon with a ice chest in it. I want to bring that !! Maybe let the kids pull the rolling backpack behind it. :D Ok seriously people no need to get into a heated debate about rolling backpacks. If it's against the rules then Disney should enforce it. If it's not then lets just smile and have a great day :D

Yep, you are correct! :)

I have issues with reflux and cannot let my stomach get empty

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard about acid reflux. I have ARD, GERD, Acid reflux, etc. My father has Barrett's and if you really know anything at all about Acid Reflux, you know how serious that is. If you don't, it is the beginning stage of esophageal cancer and it comes from 'having acid reflux'!! All of my brothers and sisters as well as extended family suffer from Acid Reflux and either Nexium, Prevacid or Prilosec are a part of their daily diet & never once has a doctor told any of us that we cannot let our stomachs get empty. Quite the opposite actually. Eating too much, especially what you eat, causes the acid to build.

Everybody is entitled to his or her own opinion and different things make different people tick. Regardless if you want to see it or not, WDW is filled with rude people, just like everywhere else. Your little "hate post" is not necessary. I'm sorry, I am never rude to anybody here on this board, but I think you need to get off your soapbox, take a chill pill about the size of a donut and relax.

So why do you feel the need to come up with thoughts that had nothing to do with what I said? It is plain and simple. Are rolling backpacks allowed? Yes. So bring them if you want. I have also said all along, be courteous to others. Put it on your back when there are big crowds. You people seem to think that just because I said I'm going to do what I want on my vacation, that it meant rolling over people, being rude, etc. WRONG!! I will take what I want to enjoy my vacation, just like anyone else should do. Also, you cannot infer tone from text, so nobody should think that I need to chill out because I'm laughing at this whole thing right now.

Everyone, bring whatever you want on your vacation, but be sure that you are courteous to others. And for you non stroller, non backpack, do your vacation my way so as not to bother me, people, you also need to be respectful of others and their decisions. We all have the same rights to be there, backpacks and strollers or not.

A 21" suitcase in the parks? I saw one in the MK, but I still smell a ...

Rolling backpacks and wheeled luggage in the parks is rude. I personally tripped over one in December and the owner did nothing.

First of all, the people who drag the bags behind them are really not aware of the true location of the bag. They zip through the crowd without a clue what their little (or big) bag is doing. Secondly, WDW guests are not used to giving people another 3 feet of personal space behind them. I have my head and eyes up looking at the sights, not on the ground looking for someone's bag. The Magic Kingdom isn't an airport for Pete's sake, I shouldn't have to look out for your rolling bag because it makes your life easier.

I can't find it, but someone who had emailed Disney asking about whether or not wagons were allowed did receive and post a reply that anything that rolled or was pulled behind you was not allowed for safety reasons (which would include wagons and rolling backpacks).

If they DO have a rule, they should be enforcing it.

its amazing how a simple comment can turn into such a lengthy thread...disney is a place that brings many a different type of people together ...we dont know everyones circumstances therefore till you have walked a day in someone elses shoes you should not judge nor be judged..under my circumstances i will continue to use my backpack until disney tells me otherwise ..hakuna matata people....

wow, guys. You are too old to be fighting about rolling bookbags. Are they annoying? sure. But im sure each family does something that annoys another family. And during periods in the park where it is really crowded everyone just has to be tolerant, because everyone is going to invade everyone's personal space. Its disney world, the happiest place on earth. If you are bothered by someone's luggage you've come to the wrong place.

First off, your problem is with rude people, not backpacks.

Secondly, why would you say something like this? I registered for an account. I was not a coward and just post anonymously. I want to know why you think I'm a troll?

I can send you a picture of me and my backpack if you want. Or you can watch the Christmas parade. I was there, backpack and all. I'm in the video of Cinderella's castle with Diana DeGarmo. The backpack is right next to me. Nobody was injured by my backpack in the making of that video.

Personally, I didn't notice any when we were there in July but I have a co-worker who came home from a Thanksgiving trip and was bruised because someone was trying to cross the street in front of her and ran into her shins as she walked past. She was more upset that the man almost rolled over her little one whose hand she was holding. So I can see why people don't like them.

Puritan, I'm not trying to argue but I too am curious. Why would you rather lug that thing around when you can leave your sweatshirts and stuff in a locker?

I have just read the past few posts and I do believe I have the answer. It is NOT the backpacks, rolling or otherwise, wheelchairs, and other things that are causing the problems it is the fact that they, gasp, allow human beings into the parks and you know how messy humans can be. Unless gathered into a group by a Hitler or Saadam, and tightly controlled, they just do not behave predictably and will insist on doing things their way.

I fear that the only solution I can come up with is that we do not allow more than one family (and I am not sure about this either as many families cannot agree to agree either) in each park each day. Anyone want to start the list of whom should be allowed to go which days? Maybe one of the people who know what is best for everyone would like to be in charge?

I have often been amused, bemused, entertained, educated and interested in the postings on the DIS but I am hard pressed to know when I have been more affronted by a post like this one.

"Handicapped people, through no fault of their own should be able to bring whatever they need, but everyone else should just deal"

I would be most interested in knowing exactly what handicaps qualify as excusable to you. I most sincerely hope that you are a very young person who has had the great luck to have never encountered any problems in your life (and never do, for that fact). Yes, I have asthma but I have never smoked a day in my life. My mother (deceased) and two of siblings have the same disease as I do and they smoke. Does that mean that they deserve to die? Do people who do not wear a helmet and are in an accident and are paralyzed just getting their just desserts? I am also overweight, have lost 90 pounds so far and have many more to go. I am doing something about my human failings. I hope that you can find it in your heart to have more compassion for others. Just because your failing is not outwardly evident does not make it less of a problem. I would far rather be run over by somebody in a wheelchair or a harried family with a stroller than to meet someone with such a sad viewpoint on life. Judge not, lest you be judged is a good theme. My personal credo is that everyone else had better be perfect when I attain such. Never fear, not likely to happen. Until then I intend to forgive others and hope they they extend the same to me while I try my best to do unto others etc.

As far as a rolling backpack, I think I will find the biggest, brightest one I can. Please advise me when you will next be in the parks. I will pack you a picnic. (let me know your favorite foods as I firmly believe in killing you with kindness. just do not ask for anything high in calories, cholesterol or whatever as I would not want you to DESERVE an illness) Until Disney tells me I cannot, I will, whatever.

Slightly Goofy about DW AND the people!!!!

....and momof2inpa i would like to see your letter showing where you were told you were not allowed to bring them to disney...we have been twice in the past year and not once were we ever questioned...

I don't keep e-mails forever, so I guess it's deleted, but I've e-mailed them again asking if they've changed the rules, and I'll let you know when they get back to me. They've sent me confirmation that they've received my question, so it shouldn't be a long wait.

To amend my earlier post, I do think that rolling containers should be allowed for medical purposes, like oxygen transport, but not to carry a whole cooler of food or a nebulizer that could be kept at First Aid or in a locker- and my son has a nebulizer.

Just to add to this (in case that is where someone saw the rule, no rolling backpacks), my daughter was told she had to carry her backpack at Universal. I said, gee, if we had known that, we would have left it in the car. The guard asked if I had been given the brochure from the parking lot attendant. I had not..but he had one handy and there it was in writing. So my daughter put it up on her back, as it was too far to go back to the car.

If DW were enforcing these rules there would not be a debate about what people can or cannot do. I saw plenty of people with backbacks, coolers and such in October.

Since I am not in charge or things, nor do I want to be, I would not venture as to what anyone else should or should not be. I have enough trouble getting myself to behave. (smile)

Whoa! Slightly Goofy, why and to whom are you addressing that jibberish to? I must have missed a post somewhere because I don't recall anyone saying anything negative about handicapped people and/or people with health problems.
