Roller coasters for people who don't like roller coasters?

I am not a roller coaster fan .
Wdw is the only place I will ride any rides at all.
My ds and I are the big wusses and proud to be so..
I also have various medical conditions which prevent me from riding certain attractions-very convenient:smooth:

However; I find 'being scared' is very much a personal feeling.
I actually find ursula incredibly scary in the little mermaid.
I know others who find stitch to be scary & I think it's hilarious.

I love dinosaur (it took me years to give it a go ) now my fave attraction in ak.
I rode splash mountain once & never again.
Test track was also an awful once in a lifetime experience.

I have no desire to feel ill and/or be upside down by choice & most certainly not at speed:rolleyes1

Therefore the other 'thrill rides' I have tried:
I really enjoy barnstormer
I love 7dmt
I like btm-I'm not keen on the noises it makes.
It took me 13+ trips to attempt tot-it was super scary to me-however then it was over
I've rode it twice & don't like the out my seat sensation-it is definitely thrilling

I squeal more than any small children on the rides & I don't care.

I will ride almost any roller coaster in a heartbeat. I went on TOT once and will NEVER set foot on it again. The sudden drops are terrifying. I cried like a baby. Nope, no way, never ever again.

My ds was petrified on this ride.
He actually squeezed me so hard I was bruised for weeks.
His language was also not particularly Disney appropriate......

How is 7DMT for bigger people? I am worried about fitting okay. I have a fast pass for my upcoming trip, have never rode this one before. I am scared of roller coasters but willing to give this one a try.
I am just north of 200lbs. And I fit next to my husband, who is just south of 190.

I agree with the poster that said that it depends on why someone doesn't like coasters. I hate the drop. So ToT is out, for me.

But the coasters at Disney I can do, since they don't seem to have drops. That said, I can only do RR and EE, once each. EE just bounces me around too much and it upsets my Lupus. RR tenses me up so much, with the speed, that it also upsets my Lupus. If I do either of those more than once, I need recovery time.

Oh, and I don't do Splash Mountain. The drop is too much.

I don't like heights (really really hate them) so I don't do non-Disney coasters. But Big Thunder is a favorite of mine. Seven dwarfs is also good, but too short. I like RnR and Space because both are inside and you don't real see the heights. I wish Space was a little lighter inside cause these days it just seems like it is so dark you can't even see where you are going and it is rather jarring on the back. Everest I'll do, but is my least favorite and that is only because of the climb at the beginning or the ride. ToT I've never done and that is because I don't like the height thing.

Okay, well, I hate most roller coasters and am terrified of heights. We go to our local Six Flags many times each year and i won't ride any roller coasters. That being said, I love Thunder Mountain, like Seven Dwarves, love Splash Mountain (but HATE the drop), love Space Mountain and.........I actually went on Rockin Roller Coaster because it's in the dark and inside, I had no idea of seeing it ahead of time. I knew what it did, but thought...I was there with my son and couldn't stand the idea of him riding stuff alone and....I survived. It was a THRILL, but the upside down stuff was fine. I also tried TOT. Hated that but would do it again if I had to. :) I was too afraid of EE and still would not do it. Scarier imo ifyou can see what a ride does.

I hate roller coasters/thrill rides is general. I can do all the mountains except Space (I love BTMRR) and I can't do RnR. Even Expedition Everest is ok, although I felt like it was faster than I remembered last time so only did it once last trip. I did TOT once and handled it fine, but won't do it again if I don't need to. Watching ride videos on youtube helped before I went on anything I wasn't sure about.

Tell him he's not alone! I was gripping my friend's hand so hard I nearly broke it, and sobbing -- begging for it to be over. I could barely get out of the elevator fast enough. Ugh it was awful.

Although I will say that the theming was amazing. My terror came more from the fact that there is absolutely no way to tell what direction you are about to move, nor how fast/far. On most roller coasters I can get a good sense of those things so I don't get terrified, just get a good thrill.

Start with 7D Mine Train if you can get the FP. As far a coasters go, it's very mild. If she likes that - you might be able to get her on Big Thunder - no real drops on that one - more turns and bumps. Space Mountain, Everest, and RnR are definitely more extreme (though still not bad compared to your average six flags coaster). [She could also do Barnstormer but it's really short and probably not worth it].

This is a great post! I've also been having ride anxiety lol I wanted to try the 7D mine train....I watched a YouTube video on it, but it's hard to tell.. Would anyone say it's comparable to a kiddy like coaster? I remember riding the one in Toon Town back in 06, and was okay with that lol!

I like Disney because there are a lot of rides that I can ride. I am not a fan of rollercoasters at all but Disney's rollercoasters are tame, but also provide the leve of thrill I'm looking for.

I absolutely will not ride RnRC or Tower of Terror. I could probably handle Expedition Everest but I'm a bit hesitant. I've ridden everything else and have had no issues on them, though.

My 7 year old LOVES Mine Train but will not set foot on BTMRR (again).

I think Mine Train is the best one to start with. Barnstormer is fast, but it's over pretty quickly.

TOT - I used to tolerate it (never loved it but was perfectly happy doing it) but then about my son's first trip (about 7 years ago) I got off and said no way, I'm never riding it again. And I haven't and won't. Nowadays it makes me a little bit ill just looking at it.

Test Track may also be a good "starter" because it's basically just like driving on the highway. (I wouldn't consider it a roller coaster, but definitely thrill ride). For reference, my son doesn't like it because he says it goes to fast. Mine Train is apparently the perfect speed for him.

Everest and RNRR have single rider lines if you'd like to ride without her.

I don't consider any of the roller coasters at WDW to be extreme. The wildest would be Rock n Rollercoaster followed by Expedition Everest. If you rode Space Mountain with the lights on you'd think it's boring (it's the darkness that makes it scary).

I don't like roller coasters and get extremely motion sick as well. But I can handle Barnstormer, BTMRR, and 7DMT pretty well.

Not a roller coaster, but Test Track is also fine.

It's interesting the different things people like. I love all types of roller coasters. Even the very intense ones....But I refuse to go on the teacup rides! lol
It is funny. There are grown adults who say that they are terrified of Tower of Terror but then you see kids going on it over and over again. Then there are people who will ride Everest and RnRC over and over but absolutely refuse to go on Mission Space because of the small space. We're all so funny when it comes to things we like and what freaks us out.

A question for those who have said they don't really like roller coasters but still go on the few you named. How do you feel about Tower of Terror? Do you stay away from that as well? This one I'm asking for my own sake! I'll go on any roller coaster but the thought of the tower of terror with it's drops makes me a little anxious.

I'm not a thrill-coaster rider. Can't deal with upside down or backwards or huge drops. I did go on ToT . . . once. And that was more than enough. It drops--several times. If dropping isn't the thing (or one of the things) that the person who doesn't like roller coasters doesn't like, they won't like ToT, either. It's all about dropping. I'd absolutely never do it again. The queue area is awesome but the drops are, well, drops!

Likewise, if spinning isn't your thing, stay away from Mission: Space.

I've seen a few queue areas and then taken the chicken exits.

I'm 43. I used to think I hated roller coasters but after a million trips to WDW and eventually getting brave enough to try all the rides over the years I discovered what I really hate is big drops while I am facing forward (weird and really specific - know). I mention how specific my roller coaster "hatred" is because the only ride I really have to psych myself up for is Expedition Everest and, honestly, it only freaks my out when I watch the drop. When I am on the ride, you are going so fast when it happens I actually can't believe the big drop is the big drop when it happens - I don't really have to realize it's a big drop.

If you can get her to maybe think about what she specifically doesn't like about roller coasters it might help her be able to experience more. I regret missing years of fun on rides I now LOVE because I assumed I wouldn't like them. Oddly I am the one in my family who had to convince my teenage son to get on Rock n Roller Coaster (no drops at all - and I don't mind speed or going upside down), and Tower of Terror is my absolute favorite ride in all of WDW (dropping straight down appearantly doesn't bother me at all - only dropping forward, facing the ground), my 14 year old son still refuses to get on it - he's tried once and left panicking via the chicken exit at the last minute right before boarding the elevator.

With all of that said, I have never had a problem with Thunder Mountain (my mom however despises it but I can't convince her to keep her eyes open so she is convinced she is dropping 100 hundred stories on each small drop). Splash Mountain - I don't love the drop at the end, I think it's because the entire flippin' ride is all about building up to that darn drop - but it's so much to get drenched and the ride itself is so adorable that I never want to miss it.

The one thing I just can't do anymore is Space Mountain, but I think it's just because I'm old cause I loved it when I was younger. Now all I can think about is whether the closest Cast Member will be able to recommend a good chiropractor when I get off the ride. Being flung around in pitch darkness without being able to prepare my neck and spine for the next sharp turn and/drop appearantly had an expiration date for me.

Likewise, if spinning isn't your thing, stay away from Mission: Space.

If it's only the spinning that bothers you, Mission: SPACE - Green Team Less Intense Training is available and is the same experience without the spinning. If it's the simulator aspects or claustrophobia, then avoid this as well. I believe now only one of the 4 bays at M:S is for Green Team now, so waits could be longer, though they were typically shorter than Orange Team before.

I'm not a thrill ride person at all. I ride everything but RnRC. I have a mantra I run thru in my head when I'm at WDW: Look at the happy people coming off the ride. I'm at WDW. These are rides made (mostly) for the entire family. I'll be fine.
I missed out on EE over two visits before I screwed up my courage. Now it's one of my favorites. If you watch a ride video, as I did, you'll learn that first lift-hill is all hype.

I've come to find this is true with most WDW rides lol. Every time I've been to AK I've gone on Kali Rapids, but this last trip it had been a while since was last there so in my own mind I was freaking myself out over the drop and almost psyched myself out of riding it. Then I decided to watch a video to get a true refresher of the ride and realized that drop was nothing. And even more so the case when we rode, although the fact that our side of the raft went down first (in other words we were facing backwards) certainly helped put me at ease. My DH wasn't too happy that we ended up getting drenched though :hyper:
