Rolled our rig! Pics added, page 4 FALSE ALARM, can't get the pix to post

Glad everyone is okay! :grouphug:

We had a similar situation Thanksgiving weekend. My husband was the only one in the truck but my daughter and I watched it happen. An elderly man pulled out of a side road, hit the truck, and both camper and truck flipped several times. Thankfully, everyone walked away with only minor scratches and bruises. This is why I say we are celebrating life on our upcoming trip in June!

Thats why I've heard having a fifth-wheeler-where the trailer is attached to the inside of the bed of a truck-is a safer pulling option.

I cant believe you rolled 3 times and the trailer stayed attached!:scared1:

I know! They had to cut the chains to disengage the SUV from the trailer. We had already been talking about upgrading to a 3/4 ton pickup and a 5th wheel in a couple years so we can hit the road as part-time RVers (live in the rig about 5 months out of the year.) That might happen sooner rather than later. I know we'll eventually have another rig, though. We just love the lifestyle too much to give it up.

I am so happy to read that you are all okay! I read your original post to my DH who is a paramedic/firefighter and he thinks that you are all incredibly lucky as well and is also happy to hear that you are all okay.

Trish

That's what everyone said. The people behind us thought surely we were all dead. The EMTs who showed up were a little disappointed, I think.:goodvibes Nothing for them to do but make a report.

Its kinda weird now. We're all sorta shell-shocked, like you might be after a funeral or a house fire. I was gonna make a nice breakfast this morning and then I remembered--all the milk, eggs, cheese, bread and bacon is in the camper. I was cold last night(it's 65 degrees here)--coats are in the camper. All my new blouses, in the camper. I did salvage the one pair of jeans and one pair of new shorts(i recently bought some new clothes because I have lost about 50-lbs. None of the clothes in my closet fit. I guess I'll be wearing all my huge stuff until I can replace everything. But that's small potatoes (oh, yeah. In the camper:rolleyes:) compared to what MIGHT have been. Just the fact that we still have the kids to love...

Did I mention that DD turned 17 three days ago and today is our 29th anniversary? Very very grateful, indeed.:cloud9:

DId stuff happen at slow motion at first then you experience it speeding up while it was happening?

YOu know, it did. Everyone was very calm. No screaming or crying or cursing.Just quiet. Even after the roll we just sat there checking for injuries and it was reassuring that everyone was able to jump from the car under their own power. I'll post pictures later today. They are really sobering.

Ya'll be careful out there.

So glad that you guys are ok, sounds like you were wearing your seatbelts. :goodvibes and that your guardian :littleangel: was watching over all. How are all of you doing after the accident, I know people get PTSD and have a hard time getting behind the wheel again. Stay safe.

I was in a roll-over crash almost 20 years ago just outside of Waycross GA. and that was in just a car. Those were the days when people were just beginning to wear seatbelts and was not a law yet. My Dh always wore his seatbelst and was always reminding me to wear mine. That morning I kept hearing his voice telling me to put my seatbelt on and I did. I remember hearing the EMTs telling the emergency room folks that I was lucky to be alive and the seatbelt saved my life.

Glad you and your family are ok. You will be able to get your things out of the camper right???

I am so glad you are all okay. Years ago when married to my ex we almost rolled our SUV and travel trailer when going by a truck on a down hill. The SUV was actually being moved back and forth by the trailer sway - items in the trailer were all over the inside but somehow we didn't tip. It was all such slow motion.

We purchased a hensley hitch after that - signifigantly decreased any sway ever and felt much safer. My ex still uses that hitch.

I know how frightened we all were and didn't tip. I can only imagine how you all are feeling right now. Hugs to you all!

Wow, that's my worse nightmare!!! Whenever we were coming back from WDW last year there was a tt on the other side of the highway that got whipped up and they drug their tt down the highway, it was one of the scarest things I have ever saw, their personal belongings were all over the highway.:sad1:
I'm glad you are ok, I would love to see pictures, it's really a good learning experience for everyone, you would be very popular on RV.net...lol.
Thank God you all are ok, everything else can be replaced. Godspeed!!!:grouphug:

Actually, we are on RV.net--Chock Full o' Nuts.:goodvibes

Seatbelts definitely saved our lives. At least some of us would have been ejected. Everything from the car was strewed all over the road. We're going to drive down Tuesday and try to salvage what we can from the camper. I don't know if we'll take the linens--they may be all embedded with glass. It's really a mess in there. The roll threw the fridge, oven and microwave out, crushed the table, the dishes & cups are smashed and somehow a lot of them ended up way behind the slide. :confused3 DHs leather coat ended up inside one of the dinette seats. At least we had emptied the holding tanks, so we didn't have sewage everywhere. You know the one thing that made it unscathed? My crockpot  Good old crockpot. Dinner is served.

wow... how scary... so glad to hear everyone is safe!!! I shared this post with my DH... always a good reminder about towing!! We also have an expedition as our TV

This is the back of the Expedition, about 4ft off the ground. The gas tank is right under the light pole--note the 2 propane tanks and 2 live batteried directly underneath. :scared1:

This is the whole wreck. We rolled about 200 yards and wrapped around the light pole. The pole eventually fell in the road. This is Me, DD17 and Christian sitting on the blanket. DBF is standing behind DD just in front of live wires from the street lamp. Soldiers from Ft Stewart, just back from Afghanistan, & nurse helping. The soldiers gave us all their water & helped patch DDs laceration. THey also climbed up on top of the rig, entered the door, and found some of DHs heart & breathing meds and one pair of shoes.

Sorry. I suck at technology. I'm struggling to post the pix. Hopefully, I'll get them up soon.

Glad you are all ok!

BTW, was this the wreck right around exit 212 in Georgia? If not, someone else flipped a camper this week as well.

Once again, I am glad everyone is safe and sound!
