Roll-on Shower needed

Hi all.

So I'm in a pickle and could use some advice. My 8-year old fractured her foot in two places over the weekend and cannot bear weight on it for at least 6 weeks. We arrive at Disney on 11/25. She's going to need a wheelchair and it would make our lives infinitely easier to have a roll in shower. I looked online and there are no roll in shower rooms at our resort. Is there any chance if I call that they may be able to help me or am I out of luck? Thanks!

If nothing else, you should be able to get a shower chair from the resort.

You can call to ask, but it's likely all roll-in shower rooms have been booked. There could be a cancellation, so keep watching. But I agree with PP above -- a transfer shower chair might help. I'm not sure what style(s) the resorts have available, but you can rent one and get exactly what you need. Try Orlando Medical Rentals. They also rent pediatric-sized wheelchairs, which I highly recommend over a standard adult-sized chair (not all vendors offer a smaller size). It will be much more comfortable for her, all day for multiple days in a row.

As lanejudy mentioned, it’s likely that all the accessible rooms with roll in showers are already booked.
This is the phone number for booking an accessible room from the Disney website - I’d try calling them. (407) 939-1936
They might be able to put you on a waiting list, but I would assume it’s not too likely that you would get a room with roll in shower. You are going at a busy time and there are actually not that many roll in shower rooms in each resort.

You may find that a shower chair meets her needs quite well

As for the wheelchair rental-- i simply need to be present for drop off and pick up, correct? You can rent from anywhere but only scooterbug can use bell services, right? Thanks!

That is correct.
Only Scooterbug can drop off and pick up at Bell Services without you present.
Scooterbug’s smallest wheelchair is 20 inches wide, but that is an adult chair and the foot plates might be too low - you wouldn’t want her feet dangling.
They also rent a special needs stroller that might work.

I agree she would probably be more comfortable in a pediatric wheelchair. Plus, it would be easier to get her in and out of and she could stay sitting in it for all WDW transportation and sitting in restaurants.
There are also quite a few attractions with wheelchair ride vehicles. For those, she would be able to stay in a wheelchair, but would need to transfer if she was using a stroller.

Take along some things to decorate her rental chair - even just a favorite Disney themed throw or beach blanket can add some fun for her! You can tie ribbons on it, attach anything with velcro (lots of folks even put battery operated lights on!) and make it a bit more festive!

And, often small kids with spina bifida or spinal cord injuries have low to the floor so they can transfer by themselves for floor play or into low chair.
Most older kids have ’chair height’ wheelchairs.
