I see your 191 and 415 there 🤣🤣 what does sub mean, I am nosy lol
hahaha. My 191 came from a 153 resale and 38 direct combined, both strange numbers. My 415 is from 3 contracts 160, 50, 205. Ive seen 205 pop up for Aulani a couple times so there must be a reason for it. SUB means subsidized dues. There was a big ole snafu with DVC and Aulani so some of the dues get subsidized by Disney making them lower than other peoples dues. This is why you see some Aulani resales asking a lot more per point, often that contract has subsidized dues. Sub dues currently are 7.61 and non sub are 10.12.

https://dvcnews.com/index.php/resor...o-subsidize-aulani-dues-over-life-of-contract Article about the snafu if you want to read up on the why

Wow that's a big difference on dues, I'll have to read up on it!

With Aulani, do you go there every year? Do you every get tired of only staying at one hotel year after year? We are planning to go next year and I'm wondering if we should stay there the whole time (two weeks) and venture out to the main island with a car rental or if that doesn't make sense and we should stay on main island for half the trip. I'm kind of leaning towards the latter and staying at Hilton

I got my 1st contract less than a year ago, but we do plan to go every year. Our 1st DVC stay was at Aulani. I actually got my Aulani closing docs while sitting on the beach at Aulani. I read up on sub dues and did major math myself along with some deep research done by others here (hats off to @ehh) and decided Id buy Aulani sub for SAP. I was nervous I would get to Aulani after committing to buy it and not love it. We fell head over heels in love with it and then I had to have more points there... slippery slope. Here is my post for my Aulani trip you will see my feelings on leaving Aulani TLDR I wont be leaving Aulani when we go in again in August. .

There are some really smart people on these boards, I was blown away by some of @ehh analysis. Thank you ill check it out and glad you loved it!

Why the number 39 and 161 for points, I always ask this when people have rare numbers 🤣🤣
I think I have a "kink" for odd numbers. lol
It was funny (coincidental) because together they = 100 even for my Sept membership (61 & 39), & now that I'm adding 100 it = 200 even. :)

Congrats!! You stuck to your 125 and prevailed! Is this is your 1st non baby sized contract?
Yep, wasn't in any rush, so I just held off. And yes, my biggest contract!

Subsidized are the holy grail of contract, I've heard some even get lucky and receive them without even knowing, those are crazy. (the original owner obviously knew, but never mentioned in the sale)

I'd suggest going somewhere else for the first week (different island or at least different vibe, Like
Waikiki) then a week at Aulani to relax. 2 different hotels on one island seems like a waste, its not like you can't check out the whole island from one hotel, so id much rather spend a week on another island first.

Often people would buy based off how many points they needed for a specific vacation, thats how you get the numbers with a 1 etc. There are a lot of 160's because I believe DVC ran promos for buying 160 points
There are a lot of 160s for a number of resorts because that was the minimum buyin for new members for a number of years. When OKW opened, it was 230, and it was reduced at some point between then and 1997 when we bought in. Now it’s 100.

I almost offered in the teens but I figured by keeping at $126 and getting the closing costs paid, it’s the best of both worlds. Save $8 per point and hopefully less likely to get eaten by the ROFR monster.
Yes!!! Many dont think of costs invloved as adding to the $ pp and it really does. Often sellers dont even think of it that way either.

Wow 230 is a lot for a minimum buy-in, but I guess it was much cheaper then 😆

Bear in mind, the philosophy of DVC and American vacation preferences have changed A LOT since the original vacation club was built. Studios were an afterthought, the idea was people would want to book the larger rooms.

Also, there was a lot of uncertainty on how well the program would be received, as the US was coming out of a recession. My parents' guide when they bought in '92 told them that Disney "would consider the program a success if they got 10,000 members." They were probably trying anything to unload as many points as quickly as possible, and making it a 230 min initially may have been one tactic to accomplish it.

Much cheaper...
When Disney Vacation Club (DVC) began in 1991 with Disney's Old Key West Resort, the initial cost was around $51 per point, requiring guests to spend at least $11,730 (equivalent to $25,800 in 2023) for 230 DVC points.

I'm guessing it went well. ;)
