So don't disagree that there is an element of Disney decision making in the market price, but I do disagree in general. Disney has always said perks may be taken away. This is a timeshare purchase, the market should not be based on whether or not you get a discount along with it. Yes, Disney is trying to tip the scales as a result of PVB not selling out, but DVC is not less affordable as a result. DVC is for the timeshare not the tickets or merchandise.

DVC is a Disney timeshare targeted at families and the benefits are pushed as a selling point, or else why would they offer those benefits to retail and not resale. Wake up.

Wrong. Resale Prices only don't fluctuate because of ROFR. DVD is trying to enforce more control over resale market by devaluing with lost benefits and inflating with ROFR. If Disney wanted more impulse buying of retail DVC then they could offer one year of free annual passes which would dramatically increase retail sales. Instead, they made DVC resales less affordable to frugal large families that may use the perks.

This decision is/was not about controlling the resale market. It was purely a business decision designed to have a minimal impact on existing members while giving upper Disney management something tangible to show that the division was doing something to cut costs in light of huge overruns in other parts of the company (Shanghai).

Yes, Disney timeshare is aimed at families, but the benefits are staying in a villa at a fraction of the price. The benefits are just that benefits and ones that can be taken away at any point. It doesn't take away that you are still staying at the resort for less than everyone else. I'm awake, you're still dreaming.

First time buyer. Last night I learned that I passed ROFR. Happy, but disappointed. I wished I had known I wouldn't be part of the club before buying. It looks like I'm just a timeshare owner.

I've been watching these threads since January... Time to play as we passed ROFR yesterday but wasn't as exciting as I'd hoped in light of recent events..trying to feel excited !!

You ARE part of the club!!! They are selling SSR direct at almost double what you bought it for resale...so think about that :).

Can all of you who passed and are disappointed play a little game with me. When you have a moment, just go on the Value Accommodations tab of the Disney website and take a good look at what you are getting for about $180/night in non-peak season. Study the barren rooms...the lack of hair conditioner...the 225 square foot rooms...

Then, go on the Deluxe tab and look at what you are going to be getting EVERY time you stay at Disney, for a cost that works out to largely less than what you would be paying for that Value for a night.

I know it's disappointing not to access the AP discounts, but those are pretty much the only perk I would notice going away, and trust me- buying resale saved you all thousands of dollars- how many $100 AP discounts would it take to add up to that? And if you go only once a year, you wouldn't even be getting the APs.

Seriously...I promise it will cheer you up. Value...then Deluxe. Trust me :flower1:

Holy Roller Coasters, Batman! Would be nice if they take into consideration the emotional toll this took on all of us in pre-ROFR & in Contract & waive all ROFRs for contracts pre 04/03/16. I'm a mess!!

I'm really hoping that they aren't playing both sides. Saving face by grandfathering everything in with the intention to buy back all the contracts in ROFR. I really hope not.

WHOA!!! That is a crazy price for OKW you got there :teeth:! Congratulations!!!

May I ask if there were any other factors involved such as bankruptcy, etc.? I like to add those details :)
Thanks! I don't know, the broker didn't mention anything. We had a hard time finding anything recent to compare with and had absolutely no idea what to expect in ROFR.
