Roethlisberger Walked.........ugh!

Agreed. And it's infuriating. Duke lacrosse team, anyone???

He should be allowed to have a life. If he wants to go to a party or a club, he should be allowed to do so.

I can't STAND the Steelers, and I'm not a Ben fan by any stretch of the imagination. But just because people want to think he's guilty doesn't make him so.

WHY is the girl never in trouble in these situations? How old was she? Did she have a fake ID? Was she drinking?

Last I checked, these things weren't legal.

Exactly- although his behavior was disgraceful!! Any young lady in their right mind shouldn't have followed him into a bathroom!! -EW!!! Gross!

Sometimes you get the behavior you're looking for- and following someone into a bathroom for sex- well doesn't bode well for teying to portray yourself
as a wallflower...

A lot of posters have brought up DLT, so, let's flip it for a second. She accused the team, everyone believed her, later found out she lied. Now, if she ever comes forward again and says she was attacked, how many people do you think are going to buy her story regardless of whether or not it's true?

Ben was accused in Vegas. Says nothing happened. A lot of people believed him. Second story comes out, people start to doubt.

Absolutely he should be allowed to have a life. We all should. So, if I came on the Dis and posted about how I left the keys to my Porsche in the ignition and a bag of money on the front seat with the windows down and someone stole my car and my money, do you think I'd get a lot of sympathy or would most Disers think I was an idiot who asked to get robbed?

How many stories have you heard about teachers, suspended or fired because questionable pictures of them appeared on the internet?

There are lots of professions where people are held to a higher standard and need to be aware of the way they conduct themselves while living their life. It might not be right, but it's reality.

You're absolutely right. Not legal. Buying and providing alcohol to minors is also illegal. It's also illegal for establishments to serve liquor to minors, fake id or not. So far, neither the girl, nor Ben, nor the bar has been charged

Agreed. By all accounts though it was Ben who followed her into the bathroom.

Having sex with a 20-year-old isn't illegal. A 20-yr-old pretending to be 21 so she can drink, on the other hand, is incredibly illegal. What better way to push the attention from that little fact than by accusing someone of rape?

while "incredibly illegal" happens daily around the US!

and yes, to an earlier poster, I did post the beef jerky article.

SHE didn't follow HIM into the bathroom, she went down the hall to use the restroom and he followed her.... That's what's being reported here in Pgh.

An update from CNN..

National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell slapped Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger with a six-game suspension for "conduct detrimental to the NFL" Wednesday, calling it "the best step for your personal and professional welfare."

Roethlisberger, who has led the Steelers to two Super Bowl titles in the past decade, faced the threat of criminal charges after a woman accused him of raping her in a Milledgeville, Georgia, bar in March. The quarterback's lawyer said no sexual assault took place, and prosecutors decided last week that they could not prove that a crime had been committed.

But in suspending Roethlisberger, Goodell said nothing about his conduct "can remotely be described as admirable, responsible or consistent with either the values of the league or the expectations of our fans."

"Your conduct raises sufficient concerns that I believe effective intervention now is the best step for your personal and professional welfare," Goodell said in a letter accompanying the suspension. He urged Roethlisberger "to take full advantage of this opportunity to get your life and career back on track."

NEW YORK -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was suspended for six games without pay Wednesday for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy and ordered to undergo behavioral evaluation.

Commissioner Roger Goodell made the announcement a week after prosecutors decided not to charge Roethlisberger after a 20-year-old college student accused him of sexually assaulting her in a Georgia nightclub in March.

Goodell said the league's conduct policy gave him the right to impose discipline.

"I recognize that the allegations in Georgia were disputed and that they did not result in criminal charges being filed against you," he said in his letter to the two-time Super Bowl winner, a six-year veteran.

"My decision today is not based on a finding that you violated Georgia law, or on a conclusion that differs from that of the local prosecutor. That said, you are held to a higher standard as an NFL player, and there is nothing about your conduct in Milledgeville that can remotely be described as admirable, responsible, or consistent with either the values of the league or the expectations of our fans."

Roethlisberger must undergo a "comprehensive behavioral evaluation by medical professionals" and may not attend any team offseason activities until that evaluation is completed.

The suspension could be reduced to four games for good behavior. Sitting out all six games would cost him an estimated $2.8 million.

you know, he has not aged well at all. We met him at ESPN weekend a few years ago (he was a jerk then too) and he looks a lot different now.

This is what I don't understand - not saying he's innocent or guilty because I wasn't there and don't know the man.

He is a millionaire 10+ times over, has a very high profile job and while not good looking in the slightest i'm sure he has a great personality. Why in the world would he have to attack someone to have sex? There must be tons of women who throw themselves at him so why in the world would he have to follow some random girl he met an hour before into the bathroom to grab her?

Rape has absolutely nothing to do with sex. It's about power and control.

He has not aged well at all. He looks like someone who hits the booze hard a lot.

Can't believe he got 6 games when there werent even charges filed.

I figured he'd probably get 2 or so, just for being stupid.

He'll only get 4, which would just be preseason.

You haven't heard it stated as regular season games anywhere, have you? Anyone?

I hope they trade him so I won't be embarrassed to be a Steeler's fan.

I was also hoping our UGA boy, Hines Ward Baby! would kick his butt for disgracing one of our towns, but oh yah, Hines is one of the classy grownups on the team. :goodvibes

Welcome back Leftwich! :thumbsup2

The artlicle I read talked about lost pay, and you dont lose pay in pre-season games. So, I'd guess it was 6 (4 with good behavior) regular season games.

ESPN has this:
Roethlisberger is barred from attending any Steelers offseason activity after Wednesday until he completes the evaluation. He can participate in training camp and preseason games this summer as long as he is cleared by the evaluators and Goodell.
So I guess it is regular season games?

And Rooney said this:
"I agree and support the decision the commissioner made today," Steelers president Art Rooney II said Wednesday in a conference call with reporters.

Which holds with the trade rumors.

I never thought the Steelers won because of Ben, I thought it was the system. But wow, I never expected something like this.

I've kinda stayed out of this whole thread for a while now as I am *huge* Roethlisberger fan. I am also a *huge* Steelers fan. I think the 6 game suspension is highly unfair especially when Michael Vick only got a 2 game suspension and he has admitted to being an animal murderer. I think a 4 game suspension with a chance to reduce to 2 would have been more fair.

I agree that it seems a little out of line when compared to other suspensions, but Michael Vick got a heck of a lot more in the end than 2 games.
I really think Goodell did his homework on this and saw the need for some reason. The ESPN article sheds some light on that.
