***ROCKSTAR: Supernova*** (spoilers welcome)

It would be a shame if they weren't serious about hiring a woman because quite honestly the talent pool the men came from was pretty shallow.
Here's my opinion of them:

Storm "Pinball Wizard"- What a great choice to kick off the new season. I thought she was really good. Excellent stage presence

Ryan "Iris"- I'm so/so on the performance. He was good but lacking the rock star vibe

Zayra "Bring Me To Life"- Started out well. Beautiful girl. Not afraid to take chances obviously but this is one of my favorite songs (I love Amy Lee's haunting voice) and she screeched it.

Toby "Knockin' On Heavens Door". I was really interested in the reactions to this because I love Guns N Roses' version. I thought it was really good.

Phil "Cult of Personality"- Horrible. He was all over the place

Patrice "Somebody To Love"- Totally killed it. Even DH came out of the computer room to watch it

Matt "Yellow"- I do not like Coldplay so I FF'd through most of it. He seemed ok. A little bland but that could be because of the song choice

Magni "Satisfaction- Horrible song choice. He also wasn't grooving much with the audience.

Josh "She Talks to Angels"- I'm still trying to decide if I liked it or not. He's got a good voice but has some weird quirks with his voice and head twitching that really bother me

Jenny "How You Remind Me"- Too folky sounding. Pretty girl. Nice voice. Too sweet

Jill "Piece of My Heart"- Why oh why do they always have to pick this particular Janis song? It's tired and too few people can do this song justice. She gets negative points from me for boring song choices.

Dilana "Lithium"- Wow! I have to admit her face piercing really bugged me but man oh man she was absolutely riveting. I really liked her voice and the way she commanded the stage just standing there. I have to admit she kind of scared me a little at the end.

Dana "I'm The Only One"- Wow! Amazing voice for someone so young. I'll be interested in seeing if she has any versatility.

Chris "Roxanne"- Ok my dog ran from the room- that's how bad the shrieking was. yikes!

Lukas "Rebel Yell"- I don't know if he's right for Supernova but he's damn good.

And the last guy they loved so much? When he came out singing, I turned to my husband and said, "Boy, Ron Howard's ugly little brother will do anything to get on camera, won't he?"

Charlene

:rotfl2: That one KILLED me!!!

I thought the women ROCKED! The guys left me wanting more.

LOVED Dilana...

and Storm.... for more than her name!!

And I LIKE Tommy's short hair! It shows his face, which is BEAUTIFUL!

Tonight will tell the tale!!

I missed the first few singers, forgot it was on...but I'm sure they will recap...its the reality show way ya know ;)

I totally agree with what some of you guys have said...I can't see a woman fronting this band. But, the women rocked last night! With the exception of the skinny blond chick - shes was pretty ho-hum to me.

I just keep thinking how much they all changed last season as the show progressed - so even the ones I thought totally suck (the Roxanne guy - my DH sings it better) may get better.

So glad this show is back, I just love, love, love it!!!

Storm "Pinball Wizard" - She was good, I liked it. :thumbsup2

Ryan "Iris" - he butchered the song - YUK!!

Zayra "Bring Me To Life" - I love Amy Lee' voice - she is NO Amy Lee.

Toby "Knockin' On Heavens Door" - I thought he was the BEST out of all the guys. :thumbsup2

Phil "Cult of Personality" - :sad2:

Patrice "Somebody To Love" - just ok.

Matt "Yellow" - :sad2:

Magni "Satisfaction" - :sad2:

Josh "She Talks to Angels" - Just ok; DH thinks he has the best voice.

Jenny "How You Remind Me" - Too folksy - not right at all for Supernova.

Jill "Piece of My Heart" - I can't remember her this morning, that should say something, LOL!!!

Dilana "Lithium" - :scared1: - I'm a big Nirvana fan - no.

Dana "I'm The Only One" - She was really good but too young for that band. :thumbsup2

Chris "Roxanne" - worst of the night, probably going home.

Lukas "Rebel Yell" - ummmmmmmm.......at first he scared me :scared1: then I started to like it :thumbsup2 , then they all gave him such great reviews, I want to see/hear more, LOL!!! :happytv: 2nd Favorite of the night.

My early favorites are: Lukas, Toby, Dana and Storm

I was a HUGE fan of the first Rockstar contest, so I am glad it is back. First off, "Supernova" is supposedly the three guys' attempt to "go in another direction" but they never said what they direction is really, just not metal. Well, "rock" to me is a little ambiguous - the Clash was rock, but also very reggae influenced, and Melissa is considered "rock" but I think she is also a bit country. I wish they'd be a little more specific in upcoming episodes. Here's what I thought of the performances last night:

Storm "Pinball Wizard"- pretty good. Didn't knock my socks off, but she certainly did a fine job and was comfortable ont he stage.

Ryan "Iris"- Eh - not horrid.

Zayra "Bring Me To Life"- Kind of bad, but Supernova and Dave liked her cuz she is hot.

Toby "Knockin' On Heavens Door". - Pretty good.

Phil "Cult of Personality"- BAD. He'll probably be in the bottom three tonight.

Patrice "Somebody To Love"- Super. One of the best of the night.

Matt "Yellow"- I don't like this song or Coldplay, but it sounded OK. Not really good, just OK.

Magni "Satisfaction" - Bad song choice for him. And he looked like he wanted to kick the audiences' collective *****. Just weird. Go back to Iceland, please.

Josh "She Talks to Angels"- I didn' tlike it at all. His voice gave me bad chills, and his movements made it look like he has the palsy or something.

Jenny "How You Remind Me"- Too much vibratto (?) and not a strong enough voice.

Jill "Piece of My Heart"- Pretty good attempt at Janice. Not excellent, but it didn't make me want to jab a screwdriver into my ears, either.

Dilana "Lithium"- Totally fugly, scary, and awesome. Absolutely thought it was going to be a disaster, as was every other attempt at Nirvana by a hopeful last season, but she rocked. I can see her fronting the band easy if it is still hard rock/metal.

Dana "I'm The Only One"- Pretty good job. She most likely won't win.

Chris "Roxanne"- He took what made the song unique and flushed it down the toilet. The version he sang SUCKED. He's a potential goner tonight.

Lukas "Rebel Yell"- I love old Billy Idol, and I wasn't wowed. I though he looked like a slightly melted Billy Corigan (Smashing Pumpkins).

I am not sure if Supernova is seriously considering a woman, but my money so far is on Dilana. I am curious to see what they will sing tonight, since Supernova has no songs yet, to my knowledge. Last time, it was cool seeing everyone sing INXS. I hope this year's results show is as much fun.

I thought of that also, last year they were required at some point to actually sing an INXS song....to see how they did with the actual band's songs...what will they be able to sing from Supernova? And just what is Supernova's sound supposed to be.

While I will end up watching this and most likely enjoying it, I just think the whole INXS thing last year was unique

when a member of the band theyare going to front for tells you ,you suck, its a pretty sure bet he'll be the one to go..bye bye chris. and send an apology note to sting while your at it! I dont know how this show is going to live up to INXS , loved it! and marty caseys cd ROCKS! :rockband:

Not sure how your being argumentative :confused3 but it does list Candy as his band in 1984. I have that album and apparently I can sell it via ebay for a hefty sum :teeth: I never actually saw him in GNR so that wasn't the band that came to mind for me.

Here's the show DH and I watched last night; I do rank them, zero to five stars, with five being the highest, because it is the highest.

Storm "Pinball Wizard" - Cool name! Pretty girl, interesting choice. I thought it was okay, but at the beginning of the song she didn't go into the higher ranges and lost DH because of it. I thought she had a nice stage presence. Three stars.

Ryan "Iris" - Ah, the first of the karaoke singers. I really wonder what he sounds like when he's not trying to sound like someone else. One star.

Zayra "Bring Me To Life" - Very cute girl. Doesn't have the vocal power for this song and the musicians just drowned her out. Dh says she has nice legs and the guys in the band like that, so two stars, I guess. One for each leg.

Toby "Knockin' On Heavens Door" - Bold song choice. Could be seen as a suckup to Gilby, or it could very well be one of Gilby's most hated songs ever. He did a decent job with it, no apparent butchering. Rather hard to establish a stage presence while seated... Two and a half stars.

Phil "Cult of Personality" - Ouch. Why? Perfectly good song until you wrapped your lips around it. Don't do that anymore, ok? One star.

Patrice "Somebody To Love" - DH is wondering why this gal didn't do her homework...(I agree, perfectly good, punk update of this song By Agent Orange with a harder beat would have great) I thought she was okay, had some presence on stage. One and half star.

Matt "Yellow" - Another karaoke performance, except Matt sounded as though he popped a couple of marbles into his mouth for fun. Coupled with the fact that he let the music overtake his vocals...One star.

Magni "Satisfaction" - Wow, I do believe DH and I were the only two who liked his performance. He took that song and instead of channeling Mick Jagger, he slapped a leash on it and walked it around the block for the world to see! He could use some work on commanding a better presence onstage though. Three and a half stars.

Josh "She Talks to Angels" - Karaoke, karaoke, karaoke. He likes to sing bluesy sort of stuff...hmmm..why not pick oh....a song by Aerosmith???!Dh is again muttering about homework. I also wish you would open your eyes when you sing. One star.

Jenny "How You Remind Me" - Another interesting choice. Too bad she never cut loose and rocked out with the song, even when the original singer did. Remind Me to wake DH when you're finished. One star.

Jill "Piece of My Heart" - :hippie: DH is awake and twitching, still complaining about homework. I don't think this was a good song choice at all. It says either; a) the judges are old, so here's something they'll remember, or b) women haven't really rocked since the sixties. That were ya thinkin', gal? Ya did okay with the song though, costume was right for the song I guess, but left me scratching my head....Two stars.

Dilana "Lithium" - Wow. Did not think I'd like her from the pre-interview. At first DH didn't like her voice. Then it grew on him. And her stage presence was mesmerizing. And she let the tension build. When she finally unleashed that beautiful frenetic energy, we were speechless. Really good. I am kinda hoping she might try a little Stevie Nicks with her voice on a later show. Five stars

Dana "I'm The Only One" - She sounded so unsure of herself. Karaoke-ish, hesitant, shakey. Find some confidence and c'mon back! It'll help establish that ever important stage presence, too. One star.

Chris "Roxanne" - Ouch. Don't do that. That was bad. DH is insisting he can karaoke this song better than whatever that mess was. When he's really drunk. So, maybe Chris just needed a couple of shots. Anyway, he's cannon fodder for sure, with zero stars.

Lukas "Rebel Yell" - Enunciation can be your friend. Sounds as though "she wants roar, roar, roar" the way you sang it. Other than that...that was, ummmmmmmmm, interesting. Quite a look you have going there, but you looked comfortable onstage. Two stars.

This were our impressions of the singers last night, and as always, YMMV.

'Sall good, sistah! Completely understand. :thumbsup2 I just didn't want you to think I was arguing with you. I'm the least confrontational person you'll ever meet (often to my detriment). It would probably be funny to see how he and his band Candy looked back in '84. Was it all big Aquanet hair and spandex, or what?

I'm loving these assessments! :thumbsup2 I wish you guys had been around last night when we were going through it person by person, LOL.

:teeth: well I seem to recall a video with lots of huge teased black hair, a black jacket and tight pants with colored Converse high tops.

Is this on again tonight?

I think these kind of threads are a riot. I'm better at the next day assessments.

Besides, last night DH and I were watching So You Think You can Dance, and taped RS;SN. Helped us get our critique on though. :)

I forgot it was coming on, but one of the girls - Dilana - is the girlfriend of a guy who cuts hair where I get my hair done.

I went in today and last night's show was all everyone was talking about! Now, I have to go search for a clip of her singing...

there's a good likelihood she'll be chosen for the encore tonight. you should definitely check it out. she's quite good. what is she like in person?

I know her boyfriend, but not her. Ironically, I just found out that my niece is a patron at the bar she works (or used to before this) at, and knows her. You'd think Houston was a small town, or something!

Here's a pic of her and her boyfriend, Stephen. He's the only one I can vouch for, and he's a real sweetheart. I never know what color his hair is going to be. It's always changing.

This was a photo on my salon's website, from I'm guessing around X-Mas-time. :teeth:
