Rockin' Roller Coaster

Simply put, the forces acting on your body are always opposite the direction of acceleration. During the launch, you are being pushed back against your seat since you are accelerating forward. Often when you enter a loop--depends on the track configuration--you are experiencing both forward acceleration and to a greater degree upwards acceleration, so you are feeling both being pushed back into your seat and even moreso down into it. Same concept entering a turn on any coaster, you accelerate to the left in a left turn, so the forces on your body push you to the right.

My least favorite feeling, that true coaster junkies love, is downward acceleration which pushes you up out of your seat--negative Gs. You generally only get this feeling going quickly over a hill, and WDW doesn't have any coasters that specialize in this. The best example I've ridden that does this is Apollo's Chariot up in BG Williamsburg--I know there are others.
Color me impressed by the man with the big words!

But I'm dumb. Are you saying that I'm right and I am being whooshed into the seat as I enter the loop? Or no?

I LOVE HILLS! If they could figure out how to take me a mile up and let me ride down, I'd do it. I saw a guy on tv who said they could build the track but can't figure out how to that without busting eardrums. So I wait patiently, lol. Now I know it's "downward acceleration" and "negative Gs.". Is going uphill positive Gs?

You don't have to answer, lol. I didn't pay for this class!

My favorite is still Millenium Force. Love the hill and the view.

It's a short ride 1 minute 15 seconds,it's over before you know it.It's no big deal,on my scale of a coasters thrill level between 1 and 10 RnRC is like a 6 max. You'll stress yourself out more thinking about if you'll ride it than just getting on and doing it.

I love RnR . There are a lot of coasters I have stopped riding as I have gotten a little older :(. Mainly I stop because they are so rough! I feel like I have been beaten up after I get off. BUT not RnR! I LOVE this coaster! I told my kids ...my goal is to ride it many times this trip. I have developed a lot more fear than I did when I was younger, not this ride though! My trip is not complete without it.

Funny thing..my son was scared to death to ride this at first. I finally convinced him to ride. When it "launched" he screamed "MOM, I hate you!" but after it was over he said, "that was so cool! Can we ride it again?!" LOL!

my brother in law and sister rode first and they swore was fine so I got on it and it was wild ride but kept my eyes shut so then rode it again few days later and is so pretty in there. and is a rush when you take off but is so fun... then I talked my daughter in law into it and she got off and was GREEN. she will never listen to me again LOL but in all fairness the merry go round at our state fair makes her green as well

Depends. I'll just say you're mostly being pushed down in a loop, and a little back.

The key distinction is between velocity (speed) and acceleration (changing speed). If you're just going up a lift hill, your speed is usually constant--you feel nothing but normal gravity from that really big ball under you. Velocity by itself does not generate these forces, you must be changing velocity. In a car on the interstate at constant speed you feel nothing but normal gravity, but hit the gas and you feel a push back into your seat. This velocity change can be in any axis: X (forward/backward), Y (left/right), and Z (up/down).

Positive Gs are the result of the track going up relative to you, and negative Gs are the result of the track going down relative to you. You feel positive Gs in inside loops and valleys (for lack of a better term) and you feel negative Gs in outside loops and cresting hills. This is what Apollo does so well, and it never goes upside down--but it is one of the freakier coasters I've been on. The lack of any restraint above your waist only magnifies the effect.

I'll shut up now. I'm starting to bore myself. ;)

Cool. I get all that. Thanks! This is the first thread I've ever bookmarked. :)

Must ride Apollo.

I love lap bars. I can deal with those U things you pull down over your head...though I do feel they were designed by MEN and enough said there. But lap bars make you feel more free.

I always think they could send us upside down with lap bars. I don't see how we'd fall out...what with the Gs and all.

I rode a ride almost identical to Millenium Force but prefer MF because of the lap bars. :thumbsup2

I hate Apollo enough to have ridden it only 3 times. ;)

I'm going to agree with most others. I DO NO do inversions but I did do this ride once on my honeymoon. I had to try it! I love aerosmith!

So the take off is very intense but its so quick and the inversions like others have stated you're in the dark so you dont know when they're coming and they arent huge loops so as its happening you're thinking "ah I'm upside down!" and after that thought you're not upside down anymore :lmao:

So if you want to try it its really not that bad, I didn't love it so I wont go on again but I'm glad I tried it

If you are being pressured dont bother

This was my first "big" coaster experience, and I was terrified before boarding. However, after the shock of the initial burst of speed, I thought this was the most fantastic theme park ride I had ever encountered. My first words at the end of the ride were, "Let's do that again!":cool1:

The first time my daughter rode RnR, she said to me, "I thought you said this went upsdie down?" She didn't feel it go upside down!

I love this ride so much but it is the ONLY ride that I ride that gives me anxiety! The take off gets me so bad that I feel like someone is punching me in the stomach. About 2 seconds later, I am laughing and singing along with the ride! I believe the worst part for me is the anxiety! :rotfl2:

I say, try it-if I can do it, you can!

Also known to coaster junkies as "Airtime"

As stated by mesaboy, Disney doesn't have an hypercoasters that are good examples of this.

To the OP: I personally feel that RnRC is less intense than EE or Space Mountian.

Okay, OP, here goes. Up until Junior year of High School (~7 years ago), I REFUSED to go on anything that went up high or upside down. Because of this, you would not get me on Tower of Terror or Rock'n roller coaster.

I went with my school to California that year and went to Disneyland. After an hour of convincing, I finally agreed to go on the upside down roller coaster (the mickey ears loop).. well, it wasn't that bad. After this, I was convinced to face my fears and go on ToT. It wasn't that bad..

If not for that trip, I probably would have never experienced either of these rides, ever. I faced my fear and now Rock'n roller coaster and ToT are my favorite rides. On Rock, you can barely feel it go upside down- it happens so fast.

Whenever my family goes to DHS I refuse to go on and sit on a bench alone and wondering what that ride is really like:lmao: We are going again in November and I was wondering what everyone else's opinion is about it. I refuse to go on rides that go upside-down... but I feel that not going on this ride at all is like... just not right:rotfl2: Please give some advise

P.S. I have never been on an inverted coaster in my whole life:sad2:

First time I went on RnRC, I closed my eyes. By the time I opened my eyes, the ride was basically over. Last trip, I kept my eyes open and my head BACK. (First time, I thought I kept my head back, but clearly I didn't as I had a WICKED headache for hours after riding.)

DO IT!!! My DD (8) was terrified to go on, but ended up LOVING the ride.

I like the RnRC, but like some have mentioned, it does beat you around a bit. Haven't had a headache develop from it, yet, but I am reminded that I stopped riding Six Flags ATL's Georgia Cyclone due to the beating it gives me. I hope that I can continue enjoying RnRC in the future, but I am always a bit worried that it will start messing me up too much to continue riding.

OP, I agree with closing your eyes on your first ride, but when you get off and you decide that you really liked it and want to ride again, I highly suggest keeping your eyes opened then. The neon lighted signage is really cool to see as you whiz by. Have fun either way :goodvibes.
