Hi

Just got this from the Kennedy Website

April 20*¹
CALIPSO/CloudSat
NASA-Jet Propulsion Laboratory/Langley Research Center
Launch Time: 6:02:29 a.m. EDT Delta II
Boeing SLC-2
VAFB

Does anyone know if they normally launch so early, we were hoping to go and see this but am not sure if we can get there at 6am.
Any advice welcome
Thanks

Kay

Hello

My friend saw Columbia go up a few years ago (not the mission that crashed but the one before that) and she had to get up very early to see it so they do go up at that time. She was staying in a villa just south of Orlando and didn't go to the viewing area but she said they could clearly see the big flames and outline going up into the dark sky. It's all the more poignant to her now after what happened.

I would love to see a shuttle or rocket take off but we're missing a launch by a week in October - I'm hoping it will be very delayed. :teeth:

I've just looked at the Nasa website (keep hoping to see a launch!!) - did you realise, unless I'm reading this wrong, that it's taking off from Vandenburg in California? Perhaps that explains the time.

Thanks for the info Anita

I would have to start pretty early to get there by 6am, California doesn't look far on the map though

Seriously, I didn't realise it was there, I just looked at the Kennedy Launch Schedule and assumed it was ALL in Florida.

Ah well, it means I might just fit in a day at the beach instead of rocket watching :)

Thanks

Kay

Anita, when is the launch scheduled for in October? Were there for 3 weeks and just wandered if we might catch this.

Thanks

We've been over to Kennedy for a launch before - it gets pretty hectic getting over there in time!

Apparently, the shuttles are visible all the way over in Orlando, though! :thumbsup2

any info on the Oct launch please

Good morning.

If you look at this site

www.nasa.gov/missions/highlights/schedule.html

it gives all the scheduled launches up to December.

The October one is scheduled for Thursday 19th October. It's a Themis rocket going up on a Boeing Delta II (the long thin rocket type). It's due to go from Cape Canaveral not Kennedy but I suppose it would still be very visible in Orlando. There's no launch time listed but it may be there closer to the time - something to do with the orbit they want apparently!

I hope you get to see it and then write all about it! :goodvibes

we are missing it by a day :furious:

Maybe it will get delayed :rolleyes1

Were there till the 27th so we might be lucky enougth to catch this one. :)

Hi All,

Just checked the link and

Aug. 28 STS-115
Space Shuttle
Atlantis 39B
KSC

Could we possibly view this? Not sure I am reading it right and too be honest it never even crossed my mind that we could possibly see a launch! :)

We were planning a day at KSC, obviously would not be able to go on launch day. Any advise, as usual appreciated.

Jennie

I really want to see one, am keeping my fingers crossed for anything being announced between Sept 23rd and Oct 7th!

The launches are visible from Orlando, Scott has home video of one of the shuttles going up taken from the MK parking lot!
