Rock 'n' Roller Coaster - Should I or shouldn't I?

It's a total rush. I'm pretty chicken, so it took a lot to get me on that ride, but it's worth it. The initial take-off is fast, but it's very close in speed to Test Track (if you've been on that). And the loops are done & gone in no time flat--if it were a lighted ride, I couldn't do it. Since it's dark in there, you're not fully aware of going through the loops--at least it seems that way to me.

The general rule in our family is, you have to try it once. If you try it & hate it, you'll never have to go on it again. It's one of the few coasters I'm willing to go on again. :rotfl:

There is a "chicken exit" just before the limos load, so if you go through the queue, see the pre-show, watch a launch or 2 and then decide that you can't do it, just tell the loading CM that you aren't riding & they'll show you the chicken exit, which takes you to the gift shop.

Honestly, it's an awesome ride. You go from 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds. Imagine the feeling of being shot directly into a dark tunnel which leads immediately to a loop!

When they pull your limo up to the entrance to the tunnel, relax, breathe deeply, look straight ahead with your head facing forward but against the headrest. When you see the green light, KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN because they are taking your picture right after you enter the tunnel!

I believe that I read that the ride is only 1 min. 15 seconds long, which is really too short.
Enjoy! :sunny:

I do no rollercoasters but will do this one!

Plain and simple.. it is in the dark..very very fast and over in 90 seconds.

the 90 second thing got me through the 1st time....I closed my eyes the next 3 times and now i can keep them open.

all the other posts are so totally accurate. no drops....

beginning is bit anticlimatic....but once you shoot out, you will be fine... the music from aerosmith accompanied by the fast pace ride is extremely exhillirating....

I find this much easier to do than TOT....OMG....last time on this ride, kids begged me. saying that it could only be 2 drops...

well just my luck>>>

was 7 yes I said 7 drops (whew)

never again for that ride...
although the show beforehand is fantastic

YOU SHOULD!!! it is one of our favorites at wdw. I love take off. I never got use to it and I have rode atleast 15 times. :cheer2:

Try it, it's great! Just be prepared for the take off it's pretty intense, but after that it's a breeze. It's one of my favorites. :cool1:

I had to be brave because I was riding with my 5yo son. :bounce: The one thing that makes RnR a pleasure (especially compared to other corkscrew coasters) is that it is fantastically smooth. Never once on that ride have I felt those constant vibrations that one often feels on coasters. That + excellent theming make it a "don't miss" attraction. Seriously, my 5yo has been on it and loves it.

I am not a roller coaster person. I am terrified of the really big ones. I love space mountain and thunder mountain so the last time we went I decided to give it a try and I absolutely loved it. It is so much fun. I think you would like it. One suggestion though. Do not sit in the very back seat for the first time. I rode it twice in a row and the second time I was in the back. It really knocks you around and it gave me a slight headache. When you are in the middle, it seemed really smooth. So go for it. If I can do it, anyone can.

We love this ride! Last time we were there we took someone who's never been on it and they loved it too. And this friend of ours is sooooo not a roller coaster person. But she loved it and right after we rode it asked to get in line again. I would at least give it a try before I nix it.

My DD10 does not care for most of the big & fast coasters that we have here in Ohio but she had no problem at all with RNRC.

Last December, my adventurous 7 year old daughter wanted to ride this ride with me. I'd never been on, and didn't know that it went upside-down, so I let her go on the ride. Well, I had to carry her out crying afterwards. All year long, when we've talked about our next Disney trip, she would say, "I'm going on ALL the rides-- except Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, because that was too scary!" I told her that was fine, and that she didn't have to go on it again. About two months before our next trip, she started telling me she might go on again, and then that turned into "I'll definitely ride it again." I told her that she could still change her mind, even up until the last minute, but she swore she would ride. So, 12/8 we were at MGM, and she was all excited to ride RnR, so we headed right there, with me reminding her that she could still change her mind. She was really nervous and excited getting on, and I worried about her the whole ride-- but she LOVED it!!! She had a humongous smile on her face afterwards, and insisted on going again, which we did. I think the first time, since she didn't know what to expect, it was scarier-- especially not knowing it goes upside-down. But she's super proud of herself now.

This ride looks really fun but I don't know whether to go on it or not. Is it really scary? Last time I was there I joined the queue but it was really long and I knew I'd wuss out right at the end so I left! I want to go on it but I don't want to regret it. What would you suggest?

I say go for it. I'm afraid of heights and had never been on an upside down coaster before. Went with DH, got placed in the front row of the limo and screamed like a baby the entire ride. BUT boy did I LOVE IT!!!!

Can't wait til DD is tall enough to get on, she's my little thrill seeker.

Well, you know where I stand on this topic -- just look at my quote underneath my name to the left!

Just do it! Don't peel off the Band-Aid slowly, rip it right off! Don't stand on the high-dive board and think, just jump!

Even if you don't enjoy the ride, it will be the most exhilarating experience of your life, and that alone makes it worthwhile.

Has anyone had their 9 year olds on this ride? We will be there in January and wondering if this ride would be ok for her.

Thanks

My DS9 rode it with DH when we were there in October. He INSISTED that he wanted to ride it. I have a bad back, so I went through the queue with them and took the chicken exit.

DS did NOT like RnRC! He was very scared and when he got off the ride it took about 20 minutes for him to be "normal" again. He had never been upside down before, so that may have had something to do with it. He loves Space Mountain and BTMRR. He does NOT like ToT.

I think if your DD is tall enough to ride and she WANTS to ride it you should let her try. There are plenty of younger kids who love it. It will be interesting to see if DS wants to try it again when we go in August with his uncle who LOVES thrill rides.

It's my 7 year olds favorite ride!!! Her first time riding was when she was 5. (She's very tall) It's all she talks about!!!

To the OP, ride it!!! It's great fun, and if you end up hating it :confused3 it's over real quick!!!

I hate roller coasters and generally never do them, but my 7yo rode it with DH and loved it, so he recruited me to "please mommy ride it with me". I will have to admit that in the first 5 seconds, I thought I had made a mistake. The takeoff is SO FAST!! But after that the ride is smooth and over very quickly. It was fun and I can say that I certainly would ride it again!!

There's plenty to do at WDW so there's no strong need to do RnR. However, once you get beyond the initial start the ride isn't all that bad.
