Rock N' Roller Coaster Problems

Well, I hate roller coasters. I can handle BTMRR and that's almost it. I don't like drops (hate splash mountain drop), hate speed, hate turns, hate it all. In June, ds13 and I took a trip to WDW and after seeing him go in the single rider line for EE, I decided I would go on anything because I didn't want him to keep having to ride alone. what fun is that? so....that being said... I tried Space mountain and survived;kind of liked it. Then.....RRC.... Because there were no drops and I couodn't see the ride in advance, I thought I could maybe handle it. I was terrified. We went there right at RD so no time to think about it. I was shaking...terrified. Turns out.. I lived through it. Did I like it? Um...not really. The take off is CRAZY fast. But the rest of it was very manageable. I kept my eyes closed, the music is awesome and loud and you feel super secure. Overall glad I did it because it was a fear I overcame and mostly glad because my son and I did it together. BTW...went on TOT right after and hated that even more. but....lived through it. So would do it again if I had to. :)

I can't stand even the slightest rollercoasters without trembling with fear, even tho these are the ones I love most.

You can't stand coasters, you tremble in fear, and you "love" them. That's more than a little confusing.

Isn't the speed kinda chocking tho?
My sister said that was the real issue for her The Mummy (which I was too scared to ride)

Choking, you mean?

Your sister felt choked on Mummy? That's an awesome ride, but hardly a big coaster. And IMO there's no choking sensation.

But I guess I'll go just for the experience because why not right?

I'm not sure you're actually scared of coasters, LOL.

But to answer RnRC...I can't stand that ride. I like medium sized coasters, I can go on the bigger ones like Hulk and Dragon Challenge (when DS makes me). I grew up riding Willard's Wizard (?) and The Demon at Great America in the Bay Area. I LOVE a loop, I like a well-done corkscrew, and I can *deal* with a launch if I have to. I cannot stand Rock and Roller Coaster. CanNot Stand it. The corkscrews aren't well done IMO. The launch is downright unpleasant. I won't do it again after the two or three chances I gave it. If I rode it another time it would ruin Aerosmith for me.

As others have already said, no drops. Even the rest of it isn't bad. I do want to offer a bit of rollercoaster advice for you...it doesn't necessarily matter on this one, but on most coasters it makes a difference:

Drops tend to be the worst when you sit in the back. That's not 100% true, but it is pretty accurate. Let's take an example here. If you are sitting in the front seat of a coaster, you go up the big bad climb and get to the top...you start sweating because imminent death is approaching. Then you realize you are slowly going over the hump because the ENTIRE rest of the train is being pulled up by the chain. Now, let's switch to the back. You go up the Big Bad Climb. You get near the hump and are just about to start sweating because you know you'll get over that hump and start falling to your impending doom. But before you get to sweat even a drop you get whipped over the hump and down the hill because the entire rest of the train was over the hill and gravity was working to pull you off of it.

That back seat on most coasters gets whipped a lot. Even on subsequent hills the front isn't as bad because the train slows down just a bit as it climbs and you go over and begin the process of pulling it down again. In the back, you get pulled up the hill (doesn't sound bad) but then whipped over the top. Just my experience. Again, this has nothing to do with the Rockin' Roller Coaster, but may help you with other coasters. I advise people who are scared to sit near the front despite their anxiety.

I used to love RNR. I had gone on about 3-4 times I think. Last week I ride with my kids and I got the last row- my head was thrown around so much I got a headache! I was careful to keep my head back at the launch but I still kept smacking the sides of the headrest. I will ride again in January but think I will request to sit closer to the front!

As far as OP riding it- it sounds like you really love roller coasters you just don't like the anticipation. You might as well try it once- if you hate it you never hVe to ride again.

I've always hated the drop on roller coasters, won't go near Expedition Everest. Didn't think RnRC would be a problem but I had tears in my eyes at the end, I felt like someone put me in a jar and shook me! However, we only do Disney every couple years, so in January I'll be back on with my kids. Have to admit, I'm a big wimp though. I've never been on ToT because it scares me and I tear up anticipating the splash mountain drop too!

For those complaining about the head being bounced, sit as close as possible to the front and resist the temptation to lean forward. Head back between the cushions (although sounds like some people may be a bit but short to get the full benefit of them.). Almost always ride twice per trip and request the front row once and back row once. Back row is MUCH rougher.

I hated that ride. I love most coasters (just can't do the modern, crazy ones like HRRR at Universal). I thought I was going to throw up on the launch!! I don't understand how people can't tell they are upside down!! I think i would have loved the coaster if it has a normal hill with a drop. Never. Again. to the OP if it's falls you are afraid of, then you have nothing to fear. You can't see where you are going anyway, so you don't know what's coming. Try it.

I'm another one who loves roller coasters. Even the launch on the Hulk--love it! But the one time I went on RnRC was terrible. I never went back. The launch is weirdly sudden--maybe because it's a horizontal launch instead of up an incline?-- and going immediately into the loop took my breath away as only one other coaster ever did (the Manta at Sea World). I just wasn't prepared for it. It was also terribly hard on my head and neck. We had a fastpass to ride again when we got off and just gave them away.
If you want to try it, I suggest the front, as others have.

Look at "XPress Platform 13" coaster in Holland: http://rcdb.com/769.htm?p=0

This coaster has almost the same layout.
Its trains do not have the on-board sound system like at Disney, so due to that missing weight during the ride the coaster is designed a little different to compensate the higher speed.

I think Disney's version is much more fun because of all the visual effects, the pre-show and...well...because it is Disney!

My biggest problem with that ride is it hurts my neck. I'm a little person and the head restraints don't restrain my head so I end up bouncing back and forth on it. I don't ride it any more since it's not worth being in pain the rest of the day. I never found it scary though.

I'm not little and I still find it rough.

I find RnR to be extremely smooth. Never had an issue with my head bouncing around. It's a great coaster. Just wish it was longer and had a big drop in it

I have a 12 year old who had never been on a roller coaster before besides Barn Stormer and BTMRR (and those were when he was about 4). We took him this spring, and he rode TOT and hated it. We took him on RNR, but we forgot (LOL) to tell him it went upside down, and when we got off, he told us that he LOVED it. We asked him if he was scared that it went upside down, and he didn't believe us that it went upside down. hahaha.

It's hars to say. RnR doesn't have a lot of drops, but the suddenness of the start and the loops could send your stomach rolling. I say watch a few videos ( if any can be found, it's dark in there) and if you decide to ride, sit with a good friend to keep you company. :) I'm a huge fan personally, but al I can say if that you have any problems with motion sickness, don't risk it. Have a great trip!!

I rode it for several years (with my eyes closed) and always told people "it's very horizontal" without height or flips or dips. Imagaine my surprize the first time I kept my eyes open! It is one of my favorites, partly because of the music.

Yes I know about that, I always try to go in the middle but if that's not avaliable I tend to go to the front, the back is always awful

Yea I find it very confusing too. That's how human mind works tho bro

Choking, you mean?

I guess that's it (?) I'm not a native english speaker so I won't know anyways
Yes, my sister did. That's her problem tho I guess

I'm not sure you're actually scared of coasters, LOL.
Yes I am? It's me who knows that not you. As much as I like them, I always almost chicken out on the last second

I like roller coasters as a general rule, but there was one time I went on EE and felt miserable the rest of the day. Decided I'd rather not do it again. Got talking into it by my sister last month. We get on, and lo and behold, we get stuck...at the very top.

I was not happy. Sat there 15 minutes before being evacuated. IMG_5620[1].jpg

We still haven't tried this one yet (always been a bit too scared) maybe this time
