I know that RnR has a 48" restriction. I measure my 6yo son as 47 1/2" without his shoes on and when we were at Kings Dominion in VA recently he measured over 48" with his shoes on and was able to do an upside down coaster there that's similar to RnR.

Does anyone know if the measuring stick is a true 48" or does Disney add on a little for shoes? I'm thinking of bringing my son to WDW in early May and I know that he wants to ride RnR. If we do go, I'll obviously prepare him for the possibility of not being tall enough.

BTW, he loved the upside down coaster at KD and I know I have a true coaster junkie in the making. :teeth:

It is very true and they are strick. I would suggest trying to ride in the am. I have seen many people ride in the morning and there kids were just tall enough then go back to ride later in the afternoon and not make the cut. The spine compresses during the day so they were at there tallest in the am. And no they do not let you on just becasue you say you rode it earlier in the day.

When are you going? Any time to feed him Miracle Gro? :teeth:

Bring a baseball cap and raise it up alittle on his head..

Good idea about the morning! Do you know if it's a true 48" or is it really more like 48 1/2 or 49?

Before we went to Kings Dominion he wanted a hair cut, but I wouldn't let him get one--I told him I wanted that little bit of extra hair on top of his head. :rotfl:

You can bet that if I do bring him to WDW that I won't get his hair cut at home and I will wait to bring him to the Main St barbershop until after he has ridden. Actually, I'll have his hair cut there and let them spike his hair! :rotfl2:

Miracle grow--that's a good idea! The way he's been eating maybe he is going through a growing spurt, but the trip would be in 2 1/2 weeks, so not much chance for a lot of growth. His 12yo brother did grow and inch and 1/4 in 12 days this winter, though. He was an eating machine! :teeth:

I would buy him some Heelys' they add almost an inch to the height (did this for DD a few years back) And as they are made like that (not altered) they still meet safety standards for riding.

My exactly 48" child rode last week. They measured him over and over to make sure his head actually touched the stick. I think they are pretty strict.

How comfortable are they to walk in? I can't imagine him really using them to skate if they are as hard to skate with as regular skates (he's a clutzy daredevil ;) ).

cvjw, is your son 48" without shoes or with?

Is he against wearing a pony tail? :) That always worked for my daughter. If you were going to Universal...There would be no worries....those kids (who work there) never checked. But Disney checks 2 times.
It sounds like he'll get in though. A few napkins in the shoes will never hurt.

Being the youngest of 4 children he's perfected the art of standing up tall when being measured. It's funny, but when he was being measured at Kings Dominion, the girl was confusing him, telling him to look a certain place and he was stepping forward. I was putting his head back, into position and she kept telling me to "take my hands off him". I didn't say anything, but excuse me, he's my son. :rotfl: It's not as if I was lifting him up. I'm sure they have parents who do that, though, so I kept my trap shut. Hard for me to do... ;)

I know the height restrictions are there for a reason, but I also know that he will be safe on the ride and there is a safety cushion built in. And I know he would love the ride, so it's not as if he would be the least bit scared. Trust me, he would enjoy it more than me (I get coaster induced migraines...).

DD said without the wheel ( I recommend keeping that at home ) They feel just like regular shoes .I think of the days of the Platform shoes but they are not like that.

Heely's definately add at least 1 inch without the wheels and more with but they are uncomfortable to walkin for long periods with the heels my kid say.

The hat trick won't work because they will make you take off the hat. And they will press down on the hair if it is poufed up.

Just be ready to talk to your kiddo if he isn't tall enough to ride this time. The restrictions are there for a reason. You'd hate yourself if anything happened to him because he was too short to ride and you bypassed the safety measures.

And I did talk to him before going to Kings Dominion and was actually a little surprised that he measured tall enough. I know that he's safe on the rides and I wouldn't take any measured to make him seriously taller even though I might make sure he wasn't wearing real flat shoes (not that it's such an issue with boys, but with girls, the difference between Sketchers and Keds type shoes can make quite a difference).

If we do go I will tell him that he might not me tall enough. And if he's tall enough once I will also warn him that he might not be tall enough the next time.

I'm looking at his sneakers and it looks like they do add about an inch at the back of his heel. He'll just need to keep practicing standing tall and he shouldn't wear his sandals. :teeth:

My 6 year old is almost 48" with no shoes. I made him wear his Nike Shox to MGM because they are his tallest shoes. So I would say he is actually a little taller than 48". They really measured him on Triceritop Spin at AK also. I watched them, the CM put the measuring pole on his head several times to make sure his head actually touched. It did touch, but just barely. They let him thru on both rides.

Who knows how accurate my measuring is. We do the "stand against the wall and make a mark with pencil", so we could be off. If so, hopefully in the right direction.

brownsoup, Where in MD do you live? We're in Montgomery County.

I just got back and took my girls on the falls at AK. They measured the girls twice and then they put bracelets on them stamping them so they could not be taken off or exchanged.

I'm going to give my couple O' pennies worth, I'm thinking it won't be popular. I took my son to Bush Garden in Tampa a couple of years ago. He wanted to go on Manatu, not sure of the spelling. He was less than an inch under....my thought was this (in spite of the fact he really wanted to go) Could I live with myself if someting happened to him due to the fact that he was too small. Common sense tells me they are overly cautious with the hieght requirement. It took a few hours for him to forgive me, I know I was being OVERLY cautious but in hindsight it was more than worth it. To be honest I tend to be less then cautious on the whole but when it comes to my sons' I'm not.

Have a magical day,

No flames from me and we ( most ) agree that and inch may or may not make a difference .But when you get to the point that you are looking at 1/4 inch or you hit it ok one one ride and the stick off a little on the next then yes a shoe could make the difference.

I would no way try or recommend to cheat a safety measure .Thats why I suggested a type of shoe not altering them.
