Rock 'n' Roller Coaster--Fact or Rumor?

Our trip is in September.

If there is Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers music on the ride while we're there we'll all have to wear our iPods!!

I've never been sick on a ride but listening to that pop c * rap will make me BARF! :crazy2:

Even if this is a joke, it's cruel, CRUEL!

+1, I would love to ride it to Back in Black. That would be an awesome ride...

Yeah, I geuss discussing it at 12:41 makes you nobody to inkkognito. Oh and, kaytieeldr, I really don't need you telling me about "sacrificing" anything... not nice... that's you!!!
Excuse me, please. That wasn't my intention.

I think they should do away with any specific band and just give it a general Rock n Roll theme. I would make the in-studio stuff very generic, and then just have a mix of different rock songs throughout the ride from various artists.

Sounds possible to me. Remember when the park used to be Disney MGM Studios? As soon as Disney could get out of the MGM contract they did. Why pay Aerosmith more royalties when you can rebrand something with a theme you own? I'm guessing it'll happen, and teens such as my twi girls will be happy about it. I just like the ride.

dont get me wrong .. i <3 aerosmith ... but id be down for it to be jonas brothers/ hannah montana themed. the jonas brothers new album is getting really great reviews ... theyve grown alot in their songwriting.
But will they still be performing almost forty years from now? Aerosmith has been together (okay, fine, with some solo work) since 1970 :teeth:

I understand that to some guests Aerosmith may seem outdated, but it's the Rockin Roller Coaster.
Without doing any research (translation: completely guessing :)), Aerosmith is probably tne longest-enduring American rock band.

Rolling Stones would get my pick.

Oh, and Led Zeppelin as already been done------

Hard Rock Park opens with Zeppelin coaster
New S.C. park celebrates its grand opening June 2-3 with A-list concerts

The Led Zeppelin classic "Whole Lotta Love" throbs from the 1,200-watt sound system as the slick silver and white roller coaster nears the top of its serpentine track.

Lead singer Robert Plant shrieks, "Woman. You need. Loooooooove ..." And as he does, riders scream as the car falls from a height of 155 feet, reaching speeds of 65 mph.

Welcome to Hard Rock Park, America's newest theme park and the first major park built in the nation in a decade. Here the theme is not movies or fairy tales or water shows. It's that American invention, rock 'n' roll.

The $400 million park in the heart of South Carolina's $16 billion tourism industry had a soft opening in April that it called a "sound check." The grand opening is slated for June 2-3, with concerts by the Eagles and The Moody Blues.

As has Led Zeppelin, both groups have lent their names to key attractions at the 55-acre park built around a lake dominated by 70-foot replica of a Les Paul guitar.

The Eagles' "Life in the Fast Lane" roller coaster spins through what appears to be an abandoned saw mill as the hit song plays. "Nights in White Satin, The Trip" winds through the dark amid psychedelic lights and images set to the 1960s Moody Blue's hit.

Nearby looms a reproduction of the Statue of Liberty with sun glasses, and holding not a torch, but a Zippo cigarette lighter. Engraved on the pedestal is a quote from Neil Young: "Keep On Rockin' in the Free World." The park also hosts nightly fireworks shows choreographed to "Bohemian Rhapsody," and one of its eateries is called Alice's Restaurant, after the Arlo Guthrie song.

It's good to know that this is more than likely a false rumor! :cool1:

This "friend" is actually my nephew's girlfriend and he was on the phone with her while at my house. She was at DHS while on the phone with him when he told her to go ride his favorite ride, RnR.

That's when she mentioned the news to him. She could've easily misinterpreted the pictures/posters to mean something more than what they mean.

And she's young, so that might've contributed to the misunderstanding.

I'm just sooo excited to hear that it won't be a HM or JonasBros ride. I've nothing against them but I love the ride as it is. It's my favorite ride!

Thank you to all who checked it out for us! :thumbsup2

It has been awhile since the last time I logged on and responded to a thread but I HAD TO to this one. I hope sooooooooooooooooooooo much that the theming to my all time fav ride at WDW does not get revamped into Jonas brothers or Hannah Montana.

I really hope it is just a rumor...........it better be just a rumor.

My DD11 doesn't care about JB or HM. I know for a fact they will be alot of disappointed fans of the ride and Aerosmith if it were themed to that crap.

Lets just keep our fingers that it doesn't happen.

That's a great idea actually.

If not then for older rock band I like the AC/DC idea, but for something newer, I would say perhaps Nickelback, or another popular Rock/Alternative band :confused3

One of the worst theme parks in history. They spent so much money building it that they could not even cover interest on the loans with the ticket sales they had. They park opened in April '08 and closed in September '08. So I guess Led Zeppelin would be ok with contract with a different company.

regardless the ride doesnt change, just the preshow and music, so they can change hm/jb in a year or two when they fade out

Understood, but just the ride itself wouldn't do it for me. I only tried a roller coaster that I KNEW goes upside down BECAUSE it was Aerosmith. I kinda liked it, but I only had enough courage to ride it once that day.

All good suggestions. Skynyrd was the first thing that came to mind for me too. Whoever it is, is should be classic, guitar rock, fast-driving music, not pop or softer rock.

Agreed. No Jonas brother gets my adreneline flowing like Steven Tyler. I could also be happy with Guns and Roses or AC/DC. Or really amp it up with Metallica or Twisted Sister. :rotfl: I can totally see James or Dee at WDW for the grand reopening. :lmao:

You could never get Bono's ego to fit inside the building.

I could live with this change, but wouldn't they still have to pay royalties on the songs?

I agree, getting out of the royalties does make business sense, but changing the target audience on a headliner does not. As I said earlier, I only rode it because of the theme. I'm sure a HM/JB theme would stop some people (for example some teens, boys especially, or adults with no kids) from riding.

After all, Disney is not just about the ride. It's all about the theme. Why do we think Dumbo is SO popular? And why can they get away with having 3 identical rides in the same park if not for the theme? At any rate, with the evidence we have, or don't have, I'm writing this off as a resurfacing of a vicious rumor/cruel joke. Long live Aerosmith :rockband:

Sorry if this has already been discussed but I did a quick search and didn't find any information regarding what I just heard.

A friend of a friend is visiting Disney at the moment and said that "there's a sign near RnRcoaster saying that it will close at the end of 2009 and in it's place there will be a Hannah Montana/Jonas Brother's attraction."

Could this possibly be true?

:scared:

I was there 2 weeks ago and no freakin' way. It's super popular, as the line is always 60-80 minutes. They normally only get rid of dated, unpopular attractions. Neither description fits this ride.

I was only on this ride once and don't remember any of the themeing (sp?) or music, only the giant guitar out front & someone crying "Get me off of this thing" over and over throughout the whole ride. Gee, she sure was a nuisance.:rolleyes1

Zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds with Billy Ray's daughter singing teeny bopper songs???? No way. You need something relatively hard and Aerosmith is already a perfect fit.

I agree with you. I didn't grow up with Aerosmith, I'm almost 20, but I can't imagine this ride without any other music. I think they should keep it like this because it's one of the only rides that appeals to most adults, because of the music.
