rock-n-roll rollercoaster - any other rollercoaster 'chickens' tried it?

On our last trip to Disney, DD would not go on Rock-n-Roll Rollercoaster or Space Mountain. We did manage to get her on Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. This was fine with me as I then had an excuse not to go on myself. LOL.

However, since then, she has grown to love rollercoasters. So, now I am trying to talk myself into trying it. I don't think I'll have a problem with Space Mountain.......and even though I loved Tower of Terror, just the thought of Rock-n-Roll Rollercoaster makes me knees shake!

Any others out there that were scared to ride it, but found out it wasn't that bad after all. The thing I do not like is big drops where you are facing the grounds..........

If you rode BTMRR, then RRC is fine! It is so much smoother! It is fast, but very short. Once you have ridden it you will want to go on again. It is dark inside..so you do not see the drops or curves...I say go!

DD and I talked a lady behind us in line for RnR to ride. She was scared to death and didn't believe anything her companion told her about it! We told her that the worst of it was the very beginning when you take off so fast. The rest of it is in the dark and very smooth--you don't even realize you're going upside down until it's over. We caught up with her after we got off and she loved it! She thanked us profusely and said it was the only rollercoaster she'd ever enjoyed.

So give it a try. If you hate it, close your eyes and realize that it's a pretty short ride and it'll be over soon and you never have to do it again!

Good luck!

We ride coasters often, have nine at our SF over GA.

If you rode Big Thunder and think you'll do Space Mtn, than you can do Rockin Roller no problem.

BTR and SM - ROUGH
RR - SMOOTH (about the smoothest we have been on anywhere)

SM - DARK
RR - DARK
At least in RR you are not riding over and other the other tracks.

While you do a couple corkscrews I find them much less "scarry" than the jerking up and down hills of SM. Never the feeling of coming out of your seat.

As a kid, I was a huge chicken when it came to roller coasters. I would refuse to open my eyes and scream the whole way through. My father never understood that. But, my childhood traumas are not the subject. lol

I decided to try RnR as my first roller coaster as an adult. I love it!!! I think the fact that it is a dark coaster helps a lot. My favorite coaster at WDW is still BTMRR. Space Mountain is also a dark coaster, but it's very jerky. I alway feel beat up after riding it.

I say give RnR a chance. Maggie

You really must do it! I never ever went on anything fast until I had to accompany my DD at DLP last year. ( I looked after the bags on our previous trips to WDW)
I was terrified at first and didn't really like the fast take-off, my foot got a cramp from trying to hit a brake peddle!
But once you're off you just have to do it and I absolutely loved it. Because the parks were quiet we did it several times in a row and even returned the next morning before our bus left for the airport!! I liked it because it was dark so I couldn't see if we were high up or not, and I also love loud rock music ( despite my age!)
Also I had a backpack and was told to just tuck it under the seat. Well, it just slid around a bit under my feet but didn't fall out as we looped the loop so I realised that it would be very difficult for me to fall out!
Go for it!!!!

I am a roller coaster chicken to some degree. I especially hate heights. I do love looping coasters though...go figure. We decided to do this ride last year in June on our anniversary. No kids. I immediately noticed the fact that it was indoors and not high. I had no info on this ride and absolutely no idea what to expect. We got in and saw the pre-show and then followe the line in to the staging area. The cars woufld stage up and then blast out through a tunnel to parts unknown. I was a little uneasy about this to say the least. We got into our car and the ride moved up to stage at the tunnel. We sat a brief moment and then shot off into the dark a mach speed (it seemed like it. you are not actually going very fast at all). What did I think?....This is the best dadgummed ride in all the parks hands down. I mean I was more frightened of the Space Mountain ride (too many drops into the dark oblivion [scared of heights remember}). What did my wife think? She giggled like a school girl at the end and asked to go back a ride it at least a dozen times during the trip. You will love it.

let me first start off by saying I hate hate hate hate hate rollercoasters! Especially if they go upside down!
Anyways, when we went there I accompanied the kids thinking it was a virtual roller coaster. Don't ask me why, I just did. When I saw the take off I honestly still thought it was virtual. I thought OK, so you zooooooooom into the room. Well, needless to say, I was very very wrong! I screamed so loud and so long I don't think I even took a breath! I had my eyes shut the whole time and held on!
Well, when we finally stopped and got off, I looked at my family and said

LETS DO IT AGAIN!!!!!!! :hyper:
This is now my favorite ride in the whole wide world! LOL We start every trip to MGM with that and end the day with it! I could ride it all day long! LOL
Now, had I actually "seen" the ride, like in an outdoor setting, I wouldn't have gone within a mile of it! LOL
I now also love space mountain and BTM.

Sorry, but once was enough for me.:( The actual ride was ok, but I had a headache for a couple of hours after the experience.

Thanks for this post - I too am a roller coaster chicken and it was only on a recent trip to WDW that I dared try SM. My kids are now older and they want to try RNR - sounds like I will try it! Wish me luck!:hyper:

I am one of the BIGGEST roller coaster chickens there is...

...and I love this ride!! There are no big hills or big drops at all. Just FUN, and fast, very smooth :)

I am a roller-coaster chicken as well. But I LOVED RRC. My three DNieces talked me into trying it. Very smooth!! Not jerky like space mountain.

Another roller coaster chicken checking in here. RnR is so much fun you can't be afraid. As others have said, it is very smooth. My 6 yr old DS, who is less brave than his mother, also rode it and loved it. My 8 yr old DD took the chicken exit the first time we tried to ride it; guess who else also loved it when she finally overcame her genetic makeup and rode it? Give it a try - it may become your favorite WDW ride!

This roller coaster is really the best. Because it's so smooth, you don't have to worry about your back feeling all messed up from it for days afterwards and all the turns and twists are pure fun.

I am much more fearful of the older wooden version--even if they go much slower! Sure RnR is fast and furious, but it really is unbelievably fun, and I think, for a fast coaster, could get most roller coaster chickens over their fear.

I've been on a lot of roller coasters, and this one is not scary at all compared to most.

Smoothness isn't the only factor though-maybe it's the in the dark thing that makes it so fun and not so freakish. For comparison's sake, I went on the Hulk in Universal, and I nearly had a heart attack. Now that ride was smooth, too, but I would not send a roller coaster chicken to it!

What are y'all trying to do for heaven's sakes? Convert a coaster-chicken like me? :hyper: Here I am sitting here in the comfort of my own home already planning out what rides I AM going to ride and what rides I'm steering clear of and then you have to go and make RnR out to sound like it might be pretty tame.... :) And my husband thanks you for it :) He's been trying to get me to try this for the past two times we've been there and I've always given him a resounding NO WAY!!! At least now I'm THINKING about it...

I LOVE space mountain and don't think it's bad at all....so MAYBE I'll give this one a try. It's nice to be able to feel someone else out about things like this before going though.

The only problem I had was remembering to breathe at the take off. It literally sucked the air out of me. I remember thinking for the first few seconds and saying over in my head, Just Breathe, Just Breathe. Really the ride is so smooth, like everyone said, I actually didn't realize there were two inversions, I swore there was only one. It's an awesome ride!

My 8 year old DD has been a rocller coaster freak since I started her on the one at Old Town when she had just turned 3! At 3 she was VERY upset she couldn't go on Space Mtn. Again at 4 1/2 she was about an inch to short and she was just devisted, however she did Tower of Terror and LOVED IT!. Now she is 8 1/2 and 51" and can't wait to go on Space Mountain and RR.

I LOVED RR, I screamed the entire time. I LOVE roller coasters however! Kraken at Sea World I think is the best I have ever been on. RR is either a tie or a darn close second.

JUST DO IT!

:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Huge roller coaster "chicken" here. I can't stand drops on coasters for flumes for that matter.

I love RRC!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to go back this vacation and do it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds isn't fast  ??? You're a tough crowd! ;) Even the Hulk's launch isn't that fast.

I say go for it! I LOVED this ride and I was terrified on Space Mountain! Must be the restraints that make me feel better.
