Good for her if this makes her and her partner happy but who cares? Why do we still care who people love?
My thoughts on this are that it is very close to being no longer necessary to do this, announce. It simply will not be necessary. Yeah for all of us!!

Younger people will just be and it will no longer be needed to say a thing. They will have no backtracking, half truths, avoiding to deal with, because they will just be like any heterosexual person on here that talks about their loved ones/husbands/wives WHEN it's relative to a conversation. Happens every day on here for those who are not extremely private or secretive.
People will just be. Hallelujah.

But for people that have hidden it a la not mentioning the most important person when openly talking about/showing getting through the awful realities of cancer on multiple occasions (I'm just assuming here about omitting - I didn't read about her battle or see the updates etc), I guess announcing it is simply clearing the slate so to speak.

I wish I could think of a good example. But I can't. Okay, I'll do a backwards one. Meredith Viera does a lot of talking/writing/visually documenting about her husband's MS. About the impact on her/their lives/their family. A lot, because I assume she's an open type of personality - or it helps her to share AND she's educating by doing that.
That's her way, to reach out and share. So let's keep her personality but make her gay. So say her partner has MS. If she were gay and not out (simply being, I mean) she would have to work VERY HARD on a daily basis not to simply slip with certain issues and certainly not share that the person she loved and lived with had MS and the impact on her life. It would change who the core of her was to deal this way.
Rosie O'Donnell can go on and on about how she never was in the closet. But I watched her use the phrase "the other adult in my household" on more than one occasion on her old talk show.
That has to be tiring to think about which awkward phrase to use on any given day.
