I had an "incident" with a trucker today. He pulled into the lane behind me, started following close (REALLY CLOSE) and kept laying on his horn. I honestly thought he was going to hit me, he was that close to my bumper. The only time he slowed was when we passed a cop who was checking speeds. At that point, he calmed down, and I was able to get in another lane and get a picture of the side of his truck with his USDOT number, and the name of the trucking company (a local company) on it. After I got the info, he got back in my lane and started the rage again. When I went to pull onto a different freeway, he, at first, acted like he was going to stay straight and not follow me anymore. Then he pulled behind me and started following me again. He must have chaned his mind, because he then pulled into the median and got back on the original freeway. (thank GOODNESS)

I called 911 to report what happened. They sent me to the State police, who took his info, wanting to know what freeway he was on and the directiong he was traveling. Should I follow up and call his trucking company, or will they be notified about the incident? I gave the State Police the trucking company's name and the USDOT number that was on the side of his truck. I do not know if he was ever pulled over.

I would call. I doubt the state police could do anything unless they caught him in the act. I would call and ask for the safety manager.

I'd call the trucking company as the poster above instructs. Drivers like that need to find another profession:confused3

Absolutely, I would call. I have done this twice and if nothing else, I do believe that the driver will be spoken to.

Definitely call. And when you get the police report, follow up on your call with the police report number. That will demonstrate that you aren't some flake or an ex-GF with a axe to grind, you are an innocent citizen who had to deal with their agent's dangerous behavior.

Another vote for call!

My father has been a truck driver for quite some time. I suggest you call the company and report him. He is an accident waiting to happen. They do want to hear about this kind of stuff. Safety is very important to these companies for many reasons. One big one being the cost of insurance. If he is driving like that and causes an accident their rates go through the roof. And they have to carry million dollar plus policies on each truck. Call and report him. Even other truck drivers hate drivers like that.

I work for a trucking company and PLEASE CALL!! Ask to speak to the Saftey Director or Fleet Director. Stay as calm as you can when talking to them. Let them know you have spoken with the State Police. If your picture shows is, give them the truck or trailer number. This would be different then the USDOT number. Our tractors have their numbers on both side of the front bumpers. The tractors had it list on both side, the back doors, and on the front. If you have either of these number, the should be able to id who that driver is. If you don't, if you can give a discription of the driver that would help. There are times, when we have more than one truck in an area and it ends up that without the info, we have to speak to 2, 3, even 6 different drivers. Even with a full discription of the incident but no trailer or truck number, drivers aren't always forth coming in admitting that they are the guilty party.

Sorry that this idiot did this to you. It's drivers like this that make it hard for the rest of the good drivers out there.

Would call and HAVE called. Same thing happened to me with a bus one time. Called up and explained what happened, including times, license plates, locations. Got a call back later stating the driver claimed they were never where I said it happened. I mentioned I was a camera person for the local news station and on my way to work, put me on hold, a manager got on the line, apologized profusely, thanked me for reporting and said the driver would be disciplined for both the infraction and for the lie. Since the incident happened on my college campus, I was happy to see the next time that bus drove by, it was a different driver.

Thanks everyone! I didn't really want to re-live the whole thing, but I called. (My heart starts pounding just thinking about it!) Unfortunately they did not answer their phone, it went to a voicemail. I left a message for them to call me back regarding a safety issue with one of their trucks. Hopefully that will get their attention.
