Ok as an old paramedic, where do you guys think is the best place to wear a Road ID???

Wrist, ankle or shoe??

Wrist bugs me when running, shoe could get tossed off, so I am thinking the ankle model.

Thoughts.

If you get hit really hard by a car the wrist and ankle could go flying so I would go with the headband model. :goodvibes

I would have no prob with an implanted chip as long as I could wear a tin foil helmet to stop the voices, LOL

DH and I have the velcro shoe thingie. I got us both the red - I thought it would stand out more to the EMS.

I have the one that velcro's into my laces.

My training buddy laughs at me since the last line on mine is:

"Don't let me die!"

I figured it would give the guy engraving it a laugh, too...

I got the wrist RoadID, though I would've preferred the shoe one. My theory is that in a trauma situation, unless your foot is bleeding or obviously disfigured, that's the last thing EMS personnel are going to be looking at. All the important stuff is above the waist. Most people know to look for MedicAlert bracelets or necklaces so I think those are the best places for the RoadID. If not, I'm hoping that someone would notice the wrist band while popping the pulse ox on my finger or looking for a place to stick an IV. I've also made it my personal mission to tell every emergency responder I meet that the RoadIDs are out there so they know to look for them whether foot, wrist or necklace type.

Jim...what are you guys trained to look for?

Yep, I remember being trained to look for medic alert devices on the wrist adn around the neck, and don't recall anything about other location but that was several years back.

The secondary assement should pick it up. I would think.

I would add if there is room, "there is a c-note in it for ya"

Strange because my daughter's medic alert is an anklet. Thats the one they strongly suggested for her at age 11. Her dad has threatened to weld the thing on her since we have caught her twice with it off. Personally I am ready to tatoo the information on her forehead but I guess that would be extreme....

My ten year old daughter wears a medic alert bracelet on her wrist. She has had it since she was one. I think we've only taken it off three times and that was to change the size! They're very hard to get off, she must really not like wearing it. My daughter wears it for a peanut allergy. Every time we get her pic taken they ask if I want to take it off and I'm like - NO! It is a part of her!

I bought the wrist one, but it's just a bit too small. So, I loop it around my laces. I think that there are so many runners who wear their ID on their shoes or around their ankle that if an EMT doesn't find something on the wrist they'll look at the feet.

laxdef69, I love your last line, lol!

As a Paramedic, I have to say that the feet/shoes are the last place I cover on a trauma assessment, & depending on circumstances, anything on the shoes could get missed, especially in the dark, and I would not recommend it there.

How's THAT for a run-on sentence?

But wherever your i.d.is, it needs to be really BRIGHTLY colored. Reflective material would be good too. Red can get lost in the......well, you know.

I have both the ankle and the wrist Road ID. I prefer the wrist. I do wear the ankle sometimes, but really when I wear lower socks I feel it on my leg and I just don't like it. I have also worn at a younger age my medical alert bracelet because of a Allergy to PCN, so my Road ID has that on it. The wrist version has reflective material stiched all the way around it.

I vote wrist!

so, anyone else got something witty on their RoadID? I keep trying to think of something good but keep coming up empty handed.

My Road ID says "Running for my girls" and my husbands says "Do or do not..." (quoted by Yoda)

I have the pink version and wear it on my wrist.
