RnR To Be Reimagined?

I just read an article about 'Endangered Attractions' at WDW & one of them listed is RnR. I'm not opposed to things being updated or changed a bit but I was not aware that the Star Wars music had been added to it. Last I was there in Dec., that wasn't the case.

If there is any truth at all to this rumor, I really hope they do the ride justice & don't change the feel of it completely like they did TT (I really was excited & wanted to like the change but the ride hasn't been the same for me since).

Regardless if this is a true rumor or not, any ideas for another group to replace Aerosmith? What would the pre-show be changed to? Just thought it might be something fun to think about. :)

PS Another attraction in this article is Circle of Life which I know has been closed already. Now that one I am excited to see updated!

That was a one night thing for the opening of Star Wars part of a package deal for the movie. The only thing that changed was star wars music playing while you rode the ride and you skipped the pre-ride scene. It quickly changed back the next day and I doubt they will do it again any time soon.

I have not seen or heard anything regarding a change to this attraction.

I know the article you are talking about, I believe - from Theme Park Tourist? I have found their info to be hit and miss, and I don't put a lot of stock in this one. RnR is crazy popular and HS can't afford to close anything else in the park right now. But it was an interesting read.

It's been a popular subject for speculation but I don't think there's even been a hint of a WDI plan never mind serious movement on this.

Looking at it logically, right now they're investing in heavy rennovation in multiple areas of the park. RnR is one of the few really popular rides that they still have in the park.

So even if they'd consider a revamp, nothing would happen until Toy Story and Star Wars were both finished. At that point, yes maybe it and Fantasmic might be looked at.

Has anyone seen this document? Is there definitely an end to the contract?
I can't see spending to retheme an attraction that has the 2nd longest wait time in the park.
I have not seen or heard about an end date to the contract or even if there is one.

Theme Park Tourist is definitely click bait and I hate falling for it every time. Them and their attractive titles and poorly organized articles that require multiple pages for a simple list of 5

Oh I completely agree! Sometimes I think the only reason I still follow them is to read the responses to their articles popcorn::

I cannot find the article anymore by searching for it now, only one of the same title from 2014. I agree with PPs that they seem to be nothing but click bait & that it would not make any sense for WDW to close RnR anytime soon (or at least before the opening of both new lands) since it is one of their most popular attractions in the park.

I do enjoy the ride as it is & am not tired of it. But being reimagined with Guardians of the Galaxy might be pretty fun, too. :)

This comes up every year in speculation. Don't forget that rides are sponsored - so the "contract" is the one with Hanes. If they keep renewing then it stays. If they put up a bundle of money and say "re-imagineer" this then Disney will. Disney can probably seek sponsor bids unless the contract has a ROFR or renewal match clause.
What is surprising to me is how low-key the sponsor is at this attraction. Most people could not tell you who it is.

Interesting. Thanks for the info! :)

Honestly, I don't think converting it to a Star Wars themed rollercoaster to be a bad idea. Aerosmith is nice but they're getting old and even their resurgence in popularity is fading.

So here is what I would do:

I would entirely remove the entrance queue area that feeds into Sunset Blvd as it already doesn't fit with the 1930's era theming....then re-route the traffic out behind the Star Wars Launch Bay area, and make that all part of the Star Wars theming....in reality it is pretty close, however there would be some logistical issues, they may need to build a ramp over food and merchandise staging areas back there. Still, it's Disney and they can do this.

They could make an overlay that can be done in less than a year IMO if they really wanted to push. Then they'd have a 'new' attraction that beats their 5 year timeline for the new Star Wars stuff.
