What would be my anticipated wait time to do both at a 9am RD? Is everyone going to head right to TSMM, leaving those with some shorter lines?

Also, what has been the experience with earlier opening than a posted 9am time lately?

All 3 start building quickly but TSMM will be insane in a short time.

I would hit ToT first then hit RnR single rider line and hope that early in the morning the single rider line is still short

As far as opening early, it's not uncommon for any park to open 5-20 min before posted opening time.

Get to the park at 8 am for a 9 am open. Walk quickly to TSMM then do RnRC single rider

If you go to Rock n Roller Coaster at Rope Drop, and then go to Tower of Terror, I don't think you will find the wait very long for Tower of Terror. We did it this way last week, and the Tower of Terror wait was only 15 minutes.

Last time we did RD for HS was all the way back in August 2016 but hopefully this still helps. We did RD for TSMM and waited several minutes for it. After TSMM, we did TOT which had a posted wait of 5 minutes but was actually about 25. I don’t remember how long RnR standby was, but after TSMM and TOT we did RnR and we probably waited about 15-20 minutes. Based on that, I think if you RD RnR and immediately do TOT, you should have a short wait. But also based on our experience that day, don’t trust the posted wait time for TOT. When it was posted at 5 minutes, it was 25. When it was posted at 100 minutes in the middle of the day, it was 45. When it was posted at 45, it was a walk on and when it was posted at 13, it was also a walk on.

That's because it's haunted!!!

RnR and TOT are two of our favorite rides at Disney, so we often try to ride each multiple times during a trip. If you want to do both in the morning (which we do) without fastpass then you almost definitely should ride RnR first and then TOT. RnR wait builds much quicker than TOT. But you need to get to DHS entrance pretty early or the wait for RnR could be so long even at rope drop that it also means a long wait for TOT. For a 9 am open I'd get to the park around 815-20. If you do that you should be able to get on and off RnR by 920 or so and have maybe a 15-20 minute wait for TOT.

I was able to snag a RnR FP for 9:40 and will keep an eye out for ToT. I think having RnR will be better of the two, as we can hit ToT quickly and then head to RnR (or even throw in Muppets or something between and have a bit of a walkabout). This is a last minute trip with someone who has never been to WDW (shocking I know), and I want to give her a feel of all parks, and we have hoppers for two days, although needing to be done by 4pm each day to make meeting events. So, this will allow us to fit three or even four parks in some way (even if we don't get everything we want) over the two days. I was able to snag Space Mountain, BTMR and HM the next day in good sequence which will allow us to do a nice counter-clockwise circle in that park and see a bunch of things. This way we have a couple of FP's in two parks and then we can decide which one to hop to each day based on what is showing that day in another park at the right time.

Thanks all for your insight. It helped me solidify this plan of ditching TSMM and going down Hollywood Blvd at RD.

If this were me, I would still do RnR at drop, then go to ToT, maybe twice, then come back and use my FP for a second ride :-)
