Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on the riviera motel on katella? I mainly want to know about the walk to disneyland an if there are any shortcuts.

This hotel doesn't often come up. It's small, very basic, and I haven't noticed any red flag problems about it.

As for shortcuts to the parks, no, but I do have a tip. Get to the other side of Harbor to walk up on the park side at the intersection with Katella. This will help you avoid a more crowded sidewalk and intersections.

Do you remember how long the walk is? We r used to staying at the castle inn at katella and s. harbor and can manage that walk no problem. I'm just not sure how much further this is

The Castle Inn is about 8 or 9 minutes. The Rivera should be about 12 or 15 minutes.

I had never heard of it--which was a red flag to me, because I have heard of most of the motels/hotels around disneyland. I just looked it up on trip advisor, and it is ranked very low--like 77th out of 100 hotels in anaheim. Also, when people say in a review "stay away, it's a dump"--then that is a pretty big clue it is not that great.

I would rather that you would find a place on priceline before you would pick some place like that. Do you know how to bid on priceline for a disneyland hotel?

I got a 3.5 star hotel (doubletree hilton in orange) for 45.00 per night last summer thru priceline. If you read about it online, there are lots of tips for getting a room close to disneyland. I also saw a video on youtube recently that outlined how to get a hotel room via priceline for the disneyland area. If you want to see it, I will find the link.

Lisa, I would be very interested in the link. We are going in August.

I found these videos over the weekend. They are a cute married couple who make videos about disneyland. They have some really good tips. One video is made by his wife about what to pack and wear at disneyland. I liked that one too!

When I got the 45.00 rate for the Hilton Doubletree in Orange (about 5 miles from the park, so not walking distance)--I could pretty much tell which hotel it was by looking at the ammenities. They also listed a free "shuttle". I knew that this was a shuttle to disneyland from the proximity to the park. It was a 3.5 star hotel--and very nice. Once I won the bid and found out it was indeed the doubletree, I called the hotel and requested a room with disney fireworks view and 2 beds. We got that when we checked in. The shuttle was free to disneyland, and left every half hour. There are a lot of websites out there that will help you figure out which hotel you are bidding on based on the ammenities of the hotel. It takes some time, but it is worth it to look into it. We booked our room about 3 weeks prior to travel.

Any other opinions. Im not concerned with the hotel itself (we had friends stay there and they found it to be fine) Im more interested in the walk.

Hey there,

Loooong time lurker, post time poster! I actually signed up because I could tell you were getting frustrated looking for an answer lol, so I decided to step in and its a good excuse to finally sign up!

Actually I stayed at this hotel last year for the opening of Star Tours and TLM for 2 nights! So yes, I can tell you plenty! Hotel as you know is VERY basic! It actually has a punch hole key card lol. Yeah, you sleep and GO! But its run by a nice Indian couple and they are very helpful! Rooms generally clean, but yeah a little outdated!

Okay, your actual question, it will take you 12-15 mins TOPS to walk from the hotel to the resort if you are relatively fit, young and a sprint walker! I actually timed it lol. If you not of those and a little slower or with kids, it will still at mos take 20 mins at most I reckon! And you have to be pretty slow!

As for shortcuts, technically there is none in terms of walking (you just walk out of the hotel, turn left and then walk down Harbour), there is ONE big advantage about staying in this area and you got the Toy Story Parking Lot! :)

Yes, its only about 10 mins away from the hotel. Technically like I said, the walk is about as long as it takes to get to the parking lot lol, BUT its still great if you have kids AND at night when you are dead tired and want to take the bus back! What I did the 3 days was usually walk to the resort, but then take the bus back at night!

And its totally legit. I even asked one of the attendants at the Toy Story lot if I'm not parked there can I still board, she said to me, "As long as you are going to Disneyland to see the mouse you're welcomed aboard!"

So hope that helps! I'm going to the opening of DCA 2.o and I was thinking about going back to the hotel this year, but decided to go a little bigger hotel wise! BUT, I will still be taking the Toy Story bus since I'm in that area again! ;)

Wow thanks! :) It was the first post here, so wanted to hit the ground running lol!

No worries!! But I want to make it clear, the Toy Story Parking busses are convient, but time wise it wont make much of a difference if you walk. You may save a few mins at best. But it IS nice to take when the day is over!

Any more questions you need about the hotel, just ask! Have a good trip! :)

I was wondering if anyone knows about the breakfast they serve? I have found their website to be a little sparse. Also I dont believe they have laundry can we just go to another hotel to do laundry?

I would call them about the breakfast and ask just to confirm. I don't think it would be appropriate for you to go to another hotel to do your laundry. The laundry area is for the paying guests of that hotel. Most hotels have their laundry area protected by a lock (you would need your room key to get in) to avoid intruders.

There are some reviews on tripadvisor about this motel, and some may have left tips about the breakfast if they offer it:

Here's some breakfast info, from another forum (link):

"Breakfast:
... Riviera had bread and a toaster, apples and oranges, coffee and an orange liquid, and (I’m not making this up) individually wrapped Hostess cupcakes. Bon appétit."

I didnt eat the breakfast, but in ALL honesty judging by the very basic aesthetics of the place I wouldve never bothered! I want to reiterate, this place is as bargain basement of a motel you can find. It really is a sleep and go kind of place only! The tiny swimming pool is litterally in the corner of the parking lot!

My advice is if you dont want to pay for a full on breakfast like an IHOP or a Denny's or do the theme park meals, but the motel one is lacking, there is a 7-11 right on the corner across the street where the hotel is located, a minute away! I say hit that, stock up on granolas, muffins and orange juice and that will probably be 10 times better what they serve you at the motel! ;)

Just wondering where you enter the toy story lot? It looks like there are entrances on both katella and south harbor. It seems like there is a jessy section, a woody section, a buzz section etc just wondering which one we should be going to and which one is closest?

Thanks
