Could anyone please tell me the best bus stop to use at Port Orleans riverside? I will be there with my family next July / August so I am expecting lots of people.

Define "best". The South Depot (the one closest to the main entrance) is usually the first one to load up in the morning, but is the last stop coming home. If you're worried about a particular stop, maybe try French Quarter. There's only one stop there.

If you rope drop, it wont matter much.. But i think the first stop near the Main Entrance is the best... Coming back after fireworks is always a PIA. One of the reasons we liked to drive in the past...

Sorry to be vague. By 'best I mean the bus stop equivalent of Gaston. A bus stop that will get me on a bus that is not too crowded if that is at all possible. A bus stop that Belle would wish to marry is she were indeed a bus stop.

I don't know of any bus stops like that at Riverside. It varies from meh to OMG!

i don't you will have an issue in the early mornings for rope drop or in the afternoon. I do remember going back once mid day to swap shoes and i was at the main entrance bus stop and must have waited 30 min for the bus that was going to the Park i needed to get back to.. the bus wasn't crowded just long over due. :( The problem your gonna have is coming home and frankly there is no way to avoid that other than skipping out before the firework.

My last 5 trips (at least) staying at POR, the order of stops has been West, North, East, South. South depot is the one by the main building. There have been a number of times in the morning that the bus was filled before everyone got on at the East Depot and then did not stop at South. I usually request a room close to the West Depot.

This. It goes West, North, East, South. We were in preferred and South was the closest stop. Bus will completely fill at South; it's busy. But, if the bus that comes is full in the am, there is a dispathcher that will call for another bus. You just have to wait just a bit. South is pretty busy, but the nice thing is that it goes straight from it to the parks. I would recommend that you view the maps at portorleans.org and decide what works best for you and the room category you have booked.

If ur looking for South depot, preferred rooms are typically best. Ab section, 14,18
And some others... those being best imho
Only way we ll stay at POR..
Enjoy!

The two times we have stayed in recent years at POR we have stayed in the Preferred rooms so used the South Depot bus stop. We like it better---it is closer to our room and usually we would often eat a meal in the food court or at least grab water/snacks before or after getting on/off the bus. For rope drop and mid-morning, the bus would arrive fairly full to the south depot, because it is the last stop. But we liked going straight to the parks from there without stopping. Coming home---I agree if you are leaving after fireworks, it can be a train wreck. It is exhausting to have to sit on the bus to drive all the way around the resort---my husband couldn't stand it. But it wasn't the end of the world, unless it was past bedtime and the littles were cranky.

When we stayed in Preferred, we would get on t South so we would not need to go around the resort and we would get off at the end of the day at the first stop (West) and walk to our room. We were in building 14 (the one closest to South stop), and it was less than a 10 minute walk. We could have just stayed in the bus, but it seemed to us easier and more pleasant to walk.

We were in Acadian and used the North stop most often. We always got a seat when we got on there, a couple of times we did not stop at the main stop. I preferred that to the possibility that a bus wouldn’t stop for us at south.

I don’t mind the buses generally, we found them plentiful and timely when we were there recently. We had one long wait to return from Epcot, and one problem at the resort, but it was a bus driver mistake that time (everyone makes mistakes, but this one caused a problem for us).

POR has been our homeresort for years. We have used the South depot several times, as it was closest to our preferred section. It was fine.
We have used West too as it was closest to our room, and it was okay too. It may be the first stop, at times, but more and more people are trekking over to West, even if they are far away, because they think it will be quicker, which makes it NOT quicker. Kind of defeats the purpose.
We always use the depot closest to our room. I think it all evens out, and I don't want to walk all the way to another on the chance it will be "quicker".
We have had busy buses most of the time, where ever we were. Sometimes you stand and sometimes you get a seat.
I think it's that way at every resort.
So, just go and have a great time, not worrying about the "right" bus stop.

I’d recommend using the depot closet to your room. On our June stay, we were closest to the East Depot and I think we were able to sit all but one time. That’s the busses though - sometimes you sit, sometimes you stand.

I never understand why people don’t like having to ride the bus while it stops to pick up/drop off others at POR. I get that you want to get to the park or home from the park after a busy day, but having mostly stayed deluxe, I’ve always had to ride the bus around (albeit longer because it’s going from resort to resort) to pick up/drop off other guests because most of the deluxe resorts share busses with other deluxe resorts. I guess I just chalk it up to the whole Disney transportation experience.

Thanks everyone for your bus information and advice. Now I would really appreciate a little advice on which area to request for our room. We will be there for three weeks and will be staying in a standard family room. Any pros and cons of the areas would be much appreciated.

In my many stays at POR, that has been the last stop. The West Depot has been the first stop picked up.

OP--have you looked at the different types of room? I prefer the look and feel of the rooms in the bayou section, but you may prefer the mansion rooms. They are very different.

Family room as in five? "Close to the West bus depot."
