Has anyone been to wdw lately and have any updates on this possible project? I think DVC needs more concierge rooms and the ones on the water would be nice! Wishful thinking!

I would imagine that the next "new" location would be the raising the south garden wing at CR to make room for BLT 2.0.

Yeah. Watching wdrl's sales charts, the speed of BLT sales is actually increasing month over month (while AKV has been slowing down). I could see DVD putting up another monorail DVC location and BLT 2.0

Some people have mentioned that the blt 2 land is undesirable and unbuildable. Not sure they can build there without a lot of expense. Also some have said that view would not be good.

Maybe the will take down the little wing under the monorail (other side of the convention building) for blt 2.

I think the only thing that could excite me more than blt has would be dvc at the poly.:lovestruc

Please no more rooms anywhere, until there's more park/activity development. Walkways are too crowded and lines too long already to be inviting even more people from around the world. (Build it and they will come!).

All of the Fantasyland construction currently underway (Mermaid, Gaston's, the Snow White coaster) is on land formerly occupied by the subs, not Toontown. I would wager to say that, based on land area, more of it is the sub space, not the toontown space.

True it appears all the princess attactions are going to be close to the castle area which includes the old 20,000 Leagues area, the Toontown area will now have 2 Dumbo rides, Goofy's coster and a few other small attactions/rides. My point was that not much extra land area is being added to "bring on more DVC" as chic wanted.

With the " Best kept secret" advertised anywhere and everywhere DVC growth in the last few years has out paced the theme park growth or additions. There are a few less crowded times during the year but they are also becoming harder and harder to find. Unless Disney adds to existing parks or opens new parks massive crowds are increasingly the norm.

This is oh so true. DH and I are used to going during slower times of the year and those times are no longer slower. Disney definitely needs to start working on a 5th gate, or some serious expansion at DHS or something.

Disney definitely needs to start working on a 5th gate
I'd bet many mickeybars that this will not happen anytime soon. The point of new gates is to extend the average stay on property. BUt, a typical US vacation isn't much longer than 5-7 days---and has been getting shorter over time, not longer. It would be hard to change the broader culture, so a 5th gate is more likely to cannibalize attendance of the others. Expansion of existing parks is much more likely, and the Fantasyland expansion will probably add a non-trivial amount to MK's overall guest capacity.

As it stands, the parks are very rarely at capacity---and hotel construction is less about increasing the overall visitor count, and more about trying to starve out the off-property hoteliers. What's more, Disney is probably better off financially if they don't have under-capacity parks for much of the year. That's why they've created "events" during the times when kids are generally in school. Some (food & wine) are more successful than others (flower & garden), but as my pastor puts it, "You don't build a church for Easter Sunday's crowd."

I also think a 5th Gate would probably hurt WDW more than it helps. My family visits for 9 or 10 days in the winter and we barely have time to do all our favorite rides. Every trip we plan on spending time in the world showcase, but we never do...

My darker side would like to see more villain attractions. I heard that was in the original plans for AK, but I don't think that makes any sense. I would say Hollywood Studios is a better fit.

Back to the topic:
When I saw the supposed River Country DVC building plans, I thought it was just a copy of the Wilderness lodge. Where is the variety in that?

We took the Backstage Magic Tour on our last trip in Nov/Dec, 2010 and the CM guide told us this very thing when I asked about adding a 5th park with the purchase of Marvel Entertainment. There were absolutely no plans to build a 5th park because it would take away from the existing parks. She cited their internal studies showing the average park stay was about a week and building a new park would not increase attendance enough to justify the addition. It's like adding a new WalMart in your town. Yes, people will come but it will reduce visitors at your existing locations. Only if the area is growing so much that the existing locations are packed does it make economic sense to add a new location. In the case of WDW, only if park attendance reaches maximum capacity for extended periods will they consider adding a new park. In the meantime, they will expand existing park attractions (i.e. Fantasyland) and upgrade or replace other attractions to lure past visitors and new visitors.

Back on to the original topic, it is interesting that there may be a demand for more concierge rooms for DVC. Right now, there are just a few concierge rooms at AKV Jambo, right? I know they book quickly.

Concierge rooms at a DVC could give Disney the opportunity to maintain their higher point per night structure...not sure what the uptick in cost would be but it would certainly help prop up new sales pricing for non-monorail locations.

The question is, is there enough desire for people to have concierge at the higher points per night?

Also, when I think of concierge, I think of a more upscale experience. Not sure that River Country/Ft Wilderness fits that kind of image. Nothing against FW, just wondering if someone would find the area appealing. Beautiful Bay Lake view and nice access to MK, but not sure if it would be a good fit for a DVC resort.

I'd love to see a DVC concierge level put in at Wilderness Lodge. :)

I think rooms over the water at a new fw area Dvc would be great. Some concierge rooms at ak don't even have nice views!

Fantasyland is getting ready to double in size so bring on some more DVC!

Two rides added, one ride removed. That's a net addition of one new ride. That plus a new restaurant and a character meet and greet, although Toontown is leaving, so that's not really an addition either. So one new ride and a restaurant. That's not doubling in size.
