I was just thinking about River Country & thought id look at some threads to see what the most recent news on what maybe happening to the site is. The last threads i could find were from early 2008 so was wondering if there has been any further updates & if anyone eles has managed to visit the site recently?
On one thread there was a lot of photos that had been taken inside R.C showing the poor state everythings been left in. If anyone has more recent pics id love to see them.

Also out of curiosity where is the best place to get a peek of R.C, is it by boat or by going over to Fort Wilderness? I have such fond memories of visiting here, my fiance never even heard about it until i told him how much fun it was. Would love to just see it once more

Hi,

I don't think there is anything to update...it's closed forever. Anything you hear would be just a rumor.

From what i was reading there was some talk of the possibilty of it re opening(:confused3 ), of it being totally demolished, idea of using the area in some way for Fort Wilderness so i was curious to see if any thing had actually come out of these ideas.
Obviously a hell of a lot of work would need to be done for most of these points to be possible & i cant imagine Disney would bother spending out so many $'s to do so.
Still people are curious to see whats to become of the R.C which was why i asked

You can see a portion of it while on the boat to Fort Wilderness.

Also, my understanding is that the restrooms they use for Mickey's Backyard BBQ used to be part of River Country.

There were posts from people who supposedly had "insider" information from contractors about a contract for an installation of a huge filtering system or somesuch to be used at RC. It never happened.

The only thing that supposedly happened (I haven't seen it to be sure) was that the slide from RC was relocated to the pool area at FW.

Since River Country is closed, and the status of it's future is speculation, I'm going to move this thread over to our rumors board.

The latest info is that Disney felt that it was best to allow nature to over-take the area. I feel sure that part of this reasoning is that it would have been too costly of a clean-up/ environmental recovery effort to do so. By allowing nature to over-take things, they didn't have to spend the money.

However, I've always thought that stagnant water posed a great health risk, especially in central Florida. So many diseases and parasites thrive on these warm/stagnant waters.

The pictures are almost too sad to look at. I have some camcorder shots of me going down those very slides in Dznefreeks photos.

That's exactly what I was thinking!

I remember those drop slides so well. At first I was so scared to go on them (I was just a little kid) and then after going on them, couldn't stop going on them. I did notice that there are still lounge chairs in the pictures. Are those left over or do the CMs enjoy a little dip in the green pools???

They recently removed the old Water Tower and the speculation is that it will be moved to the pool at Ft. Wilderness (currently under Renovation to reopen 3/20) to resemble the pool in Hilton Head . The tower at the pool is already in place and a new slide was added, but the tower hasn't been placed yet. You can see those pics in the camping forum.

Oh you're just like me. I always hold out hope that maybe someday my beloved RC will come back to me.
I always want to see what it looks like now and I found that taking the boat from the MK to FW will give you a perfect view of it. And if you go to FW early in the morning when they are having the segway tour and you can see straight in. My parents and I had breakfast at Crockets last July and when we were done I wanted to go have a moment with RC and the gates were up and I snuck in. I didn't see much, but it was quite sad to be in there, knowing how much fun I used to have there.

I've only been to RC once and I was younger so I really don't remember it at all. I remember it from the Sing A Long videos (lol). My mom tells me it was awesome though.

I think that's why they closed it in the first place, due to bacteria in Central Florida water. I believe that's why they don't allow swimming in Seven Seas Lagoon any more either.

:goodvibes My family and I had been to River Country several times...my sister chipped one of her teeth on the waterslides that came out of the "rocks", those were the days! If RC opened again, that would be a great nostalgic place to visit...

Question...does anyone remember the island you could walk through and hold the birds and see different animals (circa 1991-ish), way before Animal Kingdom was built?? I remember you took a boat there...but I cannot remember the name of it or anything...any help would be great!

Thanks!
