Rival Gourmet Creamery - anybody got one?

I bought one of these for a gift. I started to buy an electric ice cream churn, but this sounded much better as it does not need ice or rock salt.
Now I wonder if it is any good. I haven't given it yet so I'm hoping someone on the DIS can offer some firsthand experience with this ice cream maker.
