Rise boarding groups gone at 7am on Tuesday :(

Opinion alert: I think the whole boarding group thing is unfair to full rate paying tourists (I am local with a Dream Key FYI).
1. A local person can sit at home connected to super-fast internet. Even if a tourist is connected to hotel or restaurant wifi it is often slow wifi.
2. Locals have much practice at getting on a boarding group.

This system has "gamified" getting a RSR ride, so many go for just to see if they can snag one.

If it were up to me (which of course it's not) I'd say when you buy a three day park hooper you get an automatic ticket to ride RSR and passholders would get one a month or something like that. I think about all those grandparents who aren't able to ride with their grandkids (after paying full rate) because they are slow on draw and have slower reflexes.

Wow. Just wow. That's terrible if people have really turned to hogging up boarding groups for fun.:(

However that could be a lucrative market! If Genie+ doesn't launch before we're there, I'd gladly pay someone local with a fast connection and expertise to snag my fam the BG options! Stress-free vacay! Whoo-hoo!:rotfl:

Personally I just hate this is the only way to do it... no stand by line option at all. Ugh.
I know it’s easy for me to say because we have already ridden (our BG success rate is maybe 75%)…..but be thankful there isn’t a 3 hour standby line to consume your day! The ride is really pretty cool, the first time. After that it’s just a’ight if you get a BG. However, I’ll never wait standby for hours, heck…I wouldn’t even give it 45 minutes….nor will I ever pay ILL$, it’s not worth it. FoP it’s not, IMHO. Bide your time, work the 7am/12pm BGs, you’ll get one over your four days I’d bet. Good luck!

Haha! What was the name of that group a decade ago that people used to have others secure them ADRs at WDW? That got interesting! Imagine how nuts it would get if what you joke about above were actually possible….

Actually it is possible! There was a very kind board member this week who pulled a BG for Rise then didn't end up going to the Park. There was a shout out from someone desperate for a one day visitor who wasn't lucky enough to snag a BG to ride, and the person was able to send photos of the boarding group to her. And it worked!

So take that Disney and ROLL OUT GENIE NOW! Before we really gamify your system!!:earboy2:

Interesting, although that wouldn’t be something I’d want to count on. Technically they are probably supposed to scan your BG from the app, not a photo.

Of course, that’s how that WDW ADR racket started up. One person innocently (and for free) gave their CRT reservation to another poor soul who couldn’t get one…..and before you knew if there was a whole network of people (did the call themselves Fairy Godmothers?) securing CRT ADRs for other people, then money might have stated changing hands….it all got quite interesting!

If Disney wanted to, they could do a check that the ticket they scan has actually entered the park. At least in other Disney parks around the world, when they use tickets to control how much merchandise you can buy or to pick up promotional freebies, it checks that the person has entered the park. When Shanghai Disneyland first opened, there were people who would stand at the entrance to rides and sell the free Fastpasses they got. That's why Disney rolled out a system worldwide requiring tickets to be scanned to use Fastpasses. They also saw how much money the scalpers were making so they started selling Fastpasses in Shanghai, then later Hong Kong. Now it's Paris and the US parks as well.

But on the topic of boarding groups, I would absolutely not want tp wait like an hour to ride Rise but I'm going to pull a boarding group every day I have a Disneyland start. If it's early enough, I'll use it but if it's later in the day when the line gets long, I may not want to use it. Disney has designed a system where people who would be willing to wait hours for their one chance to get on the ride may end up blocked from doing so while there's people who have been on the ride plenty of times who are incentivized to grab boarding groups for the chance of a short line.

If you have family that is not traveling with you, they can log into your MDE at home and try for you as well. They will definitely have a faster connection than you have in the parks or hotels. My DH and DD didn't get to go with us to DLR this last trip (October), and they got us BGs some days (we tried from the hotel and parks each day for ROTR and WS) and some days we got them from the parks. It is worth it to try if you have people at home willing to do it!

RSR (Radiator Springs Racers) is standby and single rider currently. There is no BG to get for RSR. You mean ROTR (Rise of the Resistance). Both will be ILL$ rides, though, when that launches at DLR.

I always recommend to people to use their mobile signal from their hotel room and not hotel wifi (it's what I do when I visit). I also have people I even only sort of know (friends of friends) pass me their ticket numbers so I can help them out from home (I am not local; I had zero issue getting very low BGs for ROTR the first visit I was able to go on it before passes returned; but I'm a gamer and very quick on my phone).

I do agree BGs favor those who are tech savvy. And those who are not or do not know tech savvy people like me who are willing to help do suffer. Hopefully they'll go to standby at some point like they did at WDW. Until then, I'll continue to help teach people how to get a BG and also help them out myself as requested.

Well… you can’t get on a boarding group if you don’t have park reservations for the day. So locals aren’t just sitting around getting BGs from home for practice or for fun, when they’re not going to the parks.
I have seen some kind people here helping others to grab a boarding group by getting their ticket barcode and adding their group, and trying from home. Somebody did that for me in June, although in that instance I was actually quick on the draw and scored group 18!

DOH! Forgot about that part! There goes my backup plan...lol

I had a dream last night I scored boarding groups for 5 days straight.
I think my anxiety for my upcoming December trip is real!
I've never done Virtual Queue before and am nervous!

If my starting park is DCA, and now that Spiderman might be no VQ, I can't try for boarding groups at 7am anymore?
And would have to try for RoTR at noon and park hop if I get one?

Try not to stress, like I think I said upthread or in some other thread, we have never not gotten one.

You just confirm your party a minute or two before the groups open, and then start spamming that refresh button as fast as you can. Eventually that button will change from refresh to join but you won’t notice because it is irrelevant, you keep pressing that button until you see an error (someone in your group got it) or a success screen (you got it for your group)

Having someone try from home is genius! We have a Disneyland reservation for tomorrow morning, but will be on a plane at 7 am.
My niece and her husband will try for us from San Francisco (very fast wifi)...

All our tickets are on my acct, so if I just give them my log in info, they confirm our group of 5 and give it a try, correct?

Yes. Or a more secure way of doing it is you just have them add your tickets/passes to their account.
