Oh I hate that term, it sounds so haunted, and who wants to die and just relax in total peace, inside your coffin, When I die (hopefully you will all die first, lol) and a thread gets out here, dont RIP me
 

Never thought much about it. I’ve used the term and don’t mind it. I get what you’re saying Low-key, but to me it’s appropriate, especially for someone who dies after a long illness. I think of it this way: if someone has suffered and had a miserable quality of life for some time, perhaps gone through painful treatments, surgeries, etc.,they deserve to be at peace. How you define peace is up to you.
 
I think that it has a lazy expression, but I also recognise that many people find it difficult and uncomfortable to offer condolences to grieving relatives and that a quick ‘RIP’ is the best that they can manage.
