My DH and sons know to take my ashes up the Mackinac Bridge and well ya know (accidentally) drop them so I won't be resting in peace......I'll be a part of the Great Lakes.

Never thought much about it. I’ve used the term and don’t mind it. I get what you’re saying Low-key, but to me it’s appropriate, especially for someone who dies after a long illness. I think of it this way: if someone has suffered and had a miserable quality of life for some time, perhaps gone through painful treatments, surgeries, etc.,they deserve to be at peace. How you define peace is up to you.

And yes, Dan, one of my sons has the marine traffic.com on his phone........just in case!!

We were there at the bridge this past weekend and he told me the name of every freighter that was going under the bridge. It was awesome.

I fell in love with that song years ago.....I'm sure my love and respect for those freighters started about then.

I think that it has a lazy expression, but I also recognise that many people find it difficult and uncomfortable to offer condolences to grieving relatives and that a quick ‘RIP’ is the best that they can manage.
