RIP Mufasa & Darth Vader

What a great actor and veteran. He actually died in the Hudson Valley. I didn't even realize he was a resident of our beautiful area. May he rest in peace and continue to rock in heaven. :littleangel:

Yeah, he was around the Hudson Valley area for a long time. I was an oboe player in a youth orchestra when I was in high school in the late 1990's, and got to perform Peter and the Wolf and Aaron Copeland's Lincoln Portrait with James Earl Jones narrating at the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie. He was doing it as a fund raiser for a local school (don't remember which one). We had a rehearsal with him before the concert as well, and he was just really, really nice; was even able to have him sign my sheet music as a memento.

Had such an amazing array of roles too outside of voice acting, some of my favorites being Dr. Strangelove, Conan the Barbarian, Field of Dreams, Hunt for Red October/Patriot Games, The Sandlot, Coming to America, and the list goes on. I wish I had been able to see him on Broadway, because he played numerous great roles there too.

I did also once go to the movie theater to see a live-broadcast of a production of Driving Miss Daisy with James and Angela Lansbury - only those two. It was a very simple production, but the talent of those two elevated it to a tremendous status. Two massive talents and two Disney Legends - both gone now, but will never be forgotten.

I found it so cool that the iconic voice we know and love has dealt with stuttering his whole life. Simply amazing how he adapted, I would have never guessed.

He was fabulous in so many movies, plays, and TV shows (hilarious role in Big Bang Theory) but he will always be King Jaffe Joffer to me.

Rest Easy, Mr. Jones.

As this is a Disney forum, I'm sharing this clip as it's one of the powerful and emotional scenes Disney has ever produced with the help of the amazing talent of James Earl Jones.

RIP, I also loved his roles in the Sandlot and Field of Dreams (which is a banger, btw).

What an amazing opportunity you had!

I got to see him as Othello on Broadway with Christopher Plummer decades ago.

Yet, there were so many other great roles that I loved him in. I was just watching him in Coming To America, on TV last night, and I Googled to see how old he is. He will be greatly missed. :sad1: RIP.

What an opportunity you both had - I would have loved to have attended those appearances,
but I have to say that attending the Peter & the Wolf performance would have been enough.

Great actor, great voice, iconic - loved him. He will be missed. May he RIP.

Reducing his career to Mufasa and Darth Vader, as so many obituary headlines have done, is an insult to a classic actor whose career spanned 60 years.

Not unlike recognizing Gena Rowlands's recent passing by highlighting her appearance in The Notebook.
