RIP Michael Nesmith

The Monkees were my first concert although it was just Davy and Mickey appearing. Felt sad seeing this news today.

The Monkees were my first concert
Me too, but it was all four of them in the late 60s. Saw the farewell tour with Mickey & Mike a few weeks ago, Mike looked awful. When Mickey was performing a solo song, Mike left the stage, presumably to sit or lie down. It was pretty sad, he wasn't even playing the guitar, his singing was still pretty good.

Mike was a talented guy, he did a number of interesting musical projects over after the Monkees became defunct. Sad to see him go.

I loved the Monkees. I saw them in concert at an amusement park a long, long time ago

RIP Mike Nesmith :(

So sad to hear this. I remember watching the Monkees show every Monday night in the mid to late 60s. Mike Nesmith was very talented.

His mother invented White-Out.
No idea why I know that.

It’s been mentioned occasionally in stories about The Monkees for over 50 years now. You must have heard or read about it somewhere along the line.

I read that Mike Nesmith was the only Monkee who was an actual musician when the show started. The others were hired for their looks and offbeat personalities, and only had limited experience. When the show became a hit, the others had to take crash courses in guitar, etc. to sound competent in live performances.

This is a rumor that was not true. Peter Tork was a musician prior to being cast also.

I've read that he rode a motorcycle to an audition for the Monkees, and wore a wool cap to keep his hair in place. The producers liked it so much they called his character "Wool Cap" at first. He also wrote "Different Drum", which was a hit for Linda Ronstadt. I will remember him with great fondness.

Sad.

We are down to 2 Beatles and 1 Monkee.

Will never forget the F&G show at Epcot where a man came riding onto the America Gardens stage on a Scooter while Davy Jones was performing and it was Micky Dolenz!

They did Daydream Believer and Last Train To Clarksville together.

Mike was really talented-my favorite song he wrote for The Monkees was Listen To The Band.

My first crush. I loved him to pieces.
