RIP little pink camera

My daughter's little pink camera found its way into the hands of the younger sister - who promptly dropped it. It's a sad night for my pint-sized photographer.

Is it just the lens? A friend had a similar situation with their camera. I think we tried to push (somewhat gently) on the lens as we turned the camera off. After trying a few times, the lens retracted. It was a bit fussy when we turned the camera the first few times after that, but it has been working after that. It may be worth trying. Good luck!

From the looks of the picture, that camera is history.

What could/should/can older DD do to prevent the same fate with any new camera?

Some time ago there was a thread here on finding a child proof camera. I don't think there is any such animal.

Ds's camera has been on two very difficult trips and I think I need to get him a new one. The first trip was to New Mexico with the Boy Scouts. He backpacked for 10 days. The second trip was this past Jan. He got to go to Africa and work teaching villagers how to keep their road in good conditions. He was gone for almost two weeks.

ALL the sand and dirt really did a job on the camera he had. I think I better spring for a better one.

aw , to bad. my 5 yr old granddaughter has the same one in blue...it's been pretty good ( going on a yr and a 1/2) but we got a lanyard for it..so far it's been banged around but not really hit the pavement....yet....
