RIP Kate Spade

:sad1:

If the cause is true, wish more people could reach out in these awful moments. How sad.

I have loved her designs since the 90's. I still have the first bag I purchased of hers. I hope she is at peace now. RIP.

Great designer, self made. It's too bad. Makes no sense all that fame and fortune.

Her designs were that timeless, classic look.

Absolutely. I didn't often buy due to budget constraints, but boy did it make me happy to look at them. So beautiful - such gorgeous colours and clean lines, both I love. There was little in her line where I didn't go in my head "I'll take that - and that!"

I just feel so awful for her family. How horrifying for everyone who loved her.

She was an answer on Jeopardy last night, there was a whole category on designers and she was one of only 2 that I actually knew.

I was just coming to post this. My son answered the question as he was walking through the room and I laughed because it just seemed so random.

My daughter was a big fan of her handbags and jewelry. Very sad news.

The truly sad part is that she leaves a 13 year old daughter.

That is incredibly sad, particularly because of her daughter. It must have been horrible to be in a mental place where you would be willing to leave your 13 yo. DD.

I feel the same. I was considering stopping for yet another Kate Spade bag after work, but this gives me pause. I know she was suffering, apparently unbearably, but I can't imagine leaving my children the way she did.

I don't know why her suicide would make you choose not to buy one? I mean, if nothing else, the money would likely go to the estate, and eventually her daughter.

Thankfully, you and I can't imagine what sort of demons she was facing that made her believe ending her life was the only way out. She didn't "do this" to her daughter. She lost her battle with mental illness. We need better tools in this country for helping those who need it, even if they don't ask.

I completely agree that it's a desperate situation in this country and elsewhere in the world.

We don't have the full story (and most likely never will), but I'm guessing her daughter would rather have her mom around than the money. And the Spades sold the line years ago, so I'm not sure how much of my purchase would go to her estate anyway. (And to be honest, the last thing I need is another handbag.)

I don’t know if she was still designing them but she and her husband sold the business to Coach a few years ago.

I know it's a complex issue BUT how do you leave a 13 year old daughter behind??? It's unbelievable to me.
