I just saw this and came to see if there was a thread yet. I'm an 80s kid and I grew up on their music.
My dad had this weird hang up about me listening to any music. For as long as I can remember I knew that music was inappropriate for kids. Music is full of adult content. Then came that faithful Friday night when The Beach Boys first guest stared on Full House. I was about 7 years old. They preformed the song Kokomo and I fell in love with it instantly. I remained as still as I could trying not to react. Trying not to let on to my dad that I liked the song for fear of setting off one of his temper tantrums. But a miracle happened. After the song was over my dad asked me if I liked it. I cautiously admitted that I did. He was ok with that! In fact, the next time we were out shopping near the mall, my dad took me into the music store and bought me the Still Crusing album on cassette tape. My dad almost never bought me gifts. Especially if it wasn't my birthday or Christmas. So him buying me the album was completely out of character for him. I still have that tape along with a few more that I got as a child.
