RIP Amy Winehouse.....

It's very sad. I thought she had an amazing voice and style. Such a waste.

Such a waste & so sad. :sad2:
I am a nurse & work in an ICU setting & believe me when I tell you these accidental overdoses are becoming an epidemic.

Tonight on the news they said all the following died at 27 years old:

Janis Joplin
Jimi Hendrix
Jim Morrison
Kurt Cobain
Amy Winehouse

We don't know this was an overdose, we are just making assumptions based on her lifestyle and prior behavior.

Such a tragic waste of a life and of talent. Sad, sad, sad.

Sayhello

Whatever the cause, it is a tragic loss.
She had a troubled soul...

No argument from me on that. I was simply commenting on it being assumed that she overdosed without any official announcement being made.

so very sad - extraordinary talent.....surrounded by the wrong people and mishandled by her managers.....

I hope her troubled soul is at peace now :grouphug: Such a waste for one so talented. Thoughts for her friends and family.

I was thinking about that when I heard about Amy Winehouse yesterday. Such incredible talents, lost to demons and excess. Such a waste...so sad. :sad2:

Can't say that I feel bad for someone who's career hit was a song down-playing rehab, creating the image of rehab being some weakness and joke. I recall several high school friends who were addicted to pain killers at the time, reciting the lyrics as a joke when people were truly trying to help them. There's numerous interviews of her insulting rehab and the people who go to rehab, calling them weak etc. That's not the type of person I feel bad for.

Ohwell, no pity from me.

Whether you agree with her life or her choices, it's sad when any troubled young person dies at such an early age.

And whether you like or dislike her music, it's very difficult to deny her talent.

It is sad. I really liked her voice. I have only heard the one song of hers, but as Kevin said, she had a lot of talent.

Oh I never denied her talent. She had one true voice and ability to hit some good old motown notes, but I had zero respect for her as a person. If your a weak minded drug addict, who still can't come clean with the support of family and friends, minus her loser ex-husband, and the bank roll she had, then your just weak. Anybody can beat an addiction, especially someone with her luxuries, she basically chose not to.

Also, as someone who's a 'role model' and has the ability to reach millions with her opinions, she's not a very 'decent' person to consistently belittle rehab and the people who go into rehab.

I pity the people who turn to drugs due to abuse, environment and didn't know anything else. Not some celebrity who chose to live it up, and openly bashed rehab, labeling people who go to rehab as 'weak'. She joked in one interview "rehab is for quitters". She knew she had a problem, but chose to do nothing for years. Someone who says "rehab is for quitters", "rehab is for the weak" isn't someone who was genuinely trying to better themselves.

Bold by me. This is absolutely not true. Addiction is a horrific thing that some are lucky enough to overcome and some cannnot, no matter how hard they try or how much they want to. I am sad for anyone, talented or otherwise, rich or otherwise, young or old, who becomes consumed by addiction. It is not for us to judge her. She died far too young.

Although it wasn't unexpected, I was still shocked when I heard the news of her death yesterday. Truly sad. :sad1:

I don't know anyone who thought Amy Winehouse was a role model. If anything, she's a cautionary tale. People felt sorry for her and wanted her to get better. All the money and fame in the world doesn't give anyone an advantage when trying to overcome addiction. It often makes it more difficult. From the various photos I've seen of her over the years, it certainly didn't look like she was living it up. She looked like she was barely hanging onto life.

Her song expressed the attitude of an addict. It's not responsible for some people not wanting to seek help for their problems. She wasn't unique in her inability to recognize the gravity of her problem, but she was unique in her ability to express the heart of the problem of addiction.

I certainly don't deny her talent and listened to her music, but I stopped after I felt she was so overexposed by a media that stalked her to play up her obvious chaotic and desperate life. I think "Rehab" was not even close to her best work...it got airplay because of the attitude another poster referred to. IMO it is a poorly written almost anthem that should have faded away quickly, not in small part because of her obvious addiction issues. I wasn't shocked at all to hear this news but I am sad; I wish some sense could have been knocked in to her. I agree with others here that being unable to kick an addiction would not be characterized by me as weak. In this case this ending just seemed inevitable...that's the really sad part...
