Ringing in the New Year - Jan '12 TR - UPDATED Sept 4 I BROKE MY FOOT**

CHAPTER 16 – FANTASMIC IS FANTASTIC

Well, we left off with returning to the room to freshen up for a Fantasmic night,
we forgot to tell you about our banana bus ride back to our hotel.
For those of you that have never stayed at the PO resorts, the buses are EXTREMELY unpredictable, sometimes drivers would stop at all the stops and sometimes they would only stop at the main entrance, sometimes we would go to FQ and sometimes we would only go to RS. This time the driver decided we were going to save the best for last, the main entrance. Why? We have no idea, since the entire bus was waiting to get off there. Any way we did end up making it there.

At 4:30 we left the room and headed back to the bus stop to catch a ride the DHS, we met up with the DIS parents and were on our way to see the 630 Fantasmic show.

disney20122644.jpg

We arrived at DHS just as they were letting the line in for Fantasmic, perfect timing.

When we got in, a CM was ‘assigning seats’, which was completely stupid, he wanted everyone to fill up one entire row before he would let people start moving into the next section but no one wanted to sit in the front section because it was so cold and no one wanted to be wet. Finally DM went over and explained to him, we politely asked why people that waited in line should be forced to sit up front, when people that were going to show up later would get a better seat at the back? He finally, begrudgingly began to let people move into the next section. We were seated directly between Mickey and Pocahontas.

dscf3945n.jpg

Once we had our seats situated (we had borrowed towels from out hotel room to sit on because we anticipated the benches to be so cold your tongue would stick to them, we were correct, good thing we brought towels), here is an indication of how cold it was, someone thought it appropriate to wear their fur lined winter coat, if this was you, we were jealous.

dscf3947b.jpg

Anyways we were situated and Danielle and I went off in search of food; However, with limited options we were forced to search elsewhere, we asked if we were able to re-enter if we exited and they gave us this blue pass and lead us down the back exit. We made our way to Rosie’s and acquired a delicious hamburger. We bundled it up at best we could and ran back to our seats at Fantasmic.

Mmmmm fries, an ultimate Angus burger, diet coke, and chocolate cake were the perfect preshow foods.
We chopped that puppy in half and were on our way.

dscf3943k.jpg

Even in the chilly weather, someone managed to get a full out wave going to keep everyone warm,
Danielle and I were both just to cold to unhuddle ourselves and participate.
Fantasmic began and all was right with the world.

Why would they give assigned seats? That's just weird! Glad yall spoke up! :) Looks like a fun night!

Wow I can't believe they wouldn't let you sit wherever you wanted. If you wait in line you should get first pick of the seats! I'm glad your mom set him straight and got it all figured out. Sometimes CMs make up the craziest rules.

It was really weird! He just wouldn't let people move into other sections before the Mickey section was full, but no one wanted to be down so close to the water. Eventually enough people just started to sit in other parts that I think he gave up with his crazy made up rules.

Yah it was crazy, DM is totally the type of person that doens't put up with that.
I think it was just a bad day perhaps for that CM

CHAPTER 17 – IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL

After Fantasmic we made our way down stream toward the mean streets of New York. We were met with sheer holiday beauty. If you haven’t been to The Osborne Dancing Light Spectacular you must go!! Words cannot describe the magnitude of this display, it is insane, and the time and effort that must go into all the lights has got to be astronomical. We highly recommend it, and we aren’t even really Christmas people. We went on January 4th to see the lights so more than 2 weeks after Christmas and I believe they were left up until the 7th.

Once we had our holiday fill we met up with some old friends before heading home for the night. There were hardly any lines at P&F and the cars line was non-exhistant, everyone must have been enjoying the lights.

When we returned to the hotel, the rents had been eyeing up the muffaletta sandwich that the serve in the riverside mill food court. Danielle and I had saved our chocolate cake from our hamburger dinner earlier. We headed towards the dining room to have a midnight snack before bed.

dscf3968w.jpg

dscf3970j.jpg

Dad returned with his gigantic sandwich which he and DM shared. It came with a pasta salad which was good but had ALOT of dressing. There wasn’t much left at the baked good counter he said but he settled on a magic bar, holy cow this thing was gigantic and SOOOO SWEET. He got a water to take back to the room and we all filled up our resort mugs.

We went back to the room and a modeled my fabulous new Disney purchase for Danielle, a gorgeous Minnie Mouse apron fit for baking delicious Disney treats at home.

dscf3971a.jpg

We got cleaned up and were in bed at a reasonable time, 12:15.
We had an exciting day coming up tomorrow, extra magic hours at MK began at 0800 hours.

Words nor pictures can fully describe the Osborne lights. I am so glad your family got to see them in person. I do have to say it it looked great that you were all bundled up to see the lights. Sorry for your misfortune with the cold weather but being in coats made it look more seasonal :)

We were so happy that they were leaving them up and running late enough after Christmas that we would get to finally see them in person. But let me tell you; when it started to "snow" it was less that magical because it was cold enough to be snowing! At first all I though was "oh no! It is not snowing in Disney".

Chapter 18 – Only Fantasyland?

January 5, 2012
Weather - 38° in the am, afternoon was going to be warming up to 70° that was practically tropical

We woke up bright and early at 6:30 to prepare for the big day ahead of us. We turned on the TV and..... yeah, it was going to warm up today, Danielle and I opted to kick it down a notch and only wear one sweater and a jacket. We made our way out the door at 7:30 and headed towards the bus stop, when we arrived a bus was jamming people on, when we got to the door it looked like he was going to turn us down but he decided to allow us to be the cut off. We got to MK for EMH at 7:59 PERFECT TIMING.

DSCF3974.jpg

We decided today that everyone would have different priorities and it would be best to split up, Danielle and I went about our business.
We made a beeline to Frontierland and then DOH we forgot it wasn’t open till 9 with all our excitement, Fantasyland it was. With absolutely zero lines in sight we walked onto Snow White for what would be our last ride on it :sad1:.

DSCF3975.jpg

DSCF3982.jpg

We wanted to ride Dumbo but it wasn’t opening, we later found out that it was closed because they were switching over to the new ride in SC section.

DSCF3983.jpg

WtP also had no line so Danielle and I enjoyed the interactive queue for a little before getting on.

DSCF4001.jpg

DSCF3985.jpg

DSCF3986.jpg

I think this ride is crazy, especially at the end, all those Heffalumps really creeps me out.

DSCF3993.jpg

DSCF3999.jpg

We rode IASM because it is obligatory when there is no line, immediately once we were on it we remember why we are not huge fans.

DSCF4013.jpg

By now it was nearing 9:00 and we joined in with the crowds of other people waiting for Frontierland to open, we wanted to grab some FP for BTMR while it was still early.

DSCF4017.jpg

DSCF4018.jpg

Once the let the hoard go people immediately started running, when one woman slipped and fell on the wet roads the running stopped immediately. We made our way to the FP machines for BTMR and then moved on.
We headed towards Adventureland before joining up with our parents and stumbled upon another walk on, some flying carpets.

DSCF4023.jpg

DSCF4025.jpg

After we had flown above Agraba we made out was towards main street to grab some breakfast and meet with the rents.

That is some great luck you had with all of the walk ons that morning, sometimes I find EMH at MK to be super busy considering how early it is. Looks like you had a good time and squeezed hours worth of park time into a short period.

Yah I totally agree, sometimes we find the morning EMH to be a complete wash but it was a good morning this time. We love midnight EMH, I love staying out late.
Hopefully I have the same amount of luck in September, I am really counting on low crowds.

Caught up! I agree about the Osborne Lights, even though I am a Christmas person through and through hahha. OMG yes why is the ground always so wet in the morning? Hahah I was literally there yesterday morning and I kept slippin' and slidin' in my flip flops.

Hello! :wave2: I just found your TR last night and spent this morning reading through. You're doing a great job! Don't be discouraged by a lack of comments. My last TR didn't have many either for whatever reason but I noticed the "views" count seemed high. :confused3 I'm determined to do one for my trip in November whether anyone wants to comment or not! :cool2: :rotfl:

I totally feel your pain with the weather. We went in December 2010 and experienced the same thing. We had fortunately brought our winter coats though - it was a last minute decision that really paid off. As much as I loved all of the Christmas decor, the cold did put a damper on the trip as a whole. I am excited that the Osborne Lights will be having their first showing the last night of our trip this year. Maybe this time we can really appreciate them! :yay:

Looking forward to the rest of your report!

So wet, after that lady fell the CM's were all over everyone, I think they were more nervous than anything though. I love flip flops in Disney but sometimes I have the hardest time walking in them, wet is never good.
Hope you are having a fabulous time!!!!

Aww thank you so much, I like to listen to myself talk anyway so it works out even if no one comments. :rotfl:
We were so jealous of peoples winter coats, next time, if there is a next time I will definately be bringing one.
I will not make that mistake again, a winter jacket just puts you more in the seasonly spirit :goodvibes.
I'm trying to knock out the rest of this TR before we leave in September, I may have to pick up the speed.

CHAPTER 19 – BRAVE and Wet

We spotted some familiar faces, the rents, just as we rounded the corner by Casey’s. We decided as a group that we felt like MS Bakery for breakfast, when we arrived there was a little line but it moved fairly quickly and we were eating breakfast in no time. Danielle and I opted to split the Croissant Breakfast Sandwich – with ham and cheese with an orange juice to drink.

DSCF4028-1.jpg

The rents thought it was such a good idea they did the same except with coffees which were just alright. After breakfast we made a game plan for the day, we walked back to BTMR since DM and DD had missed the mad FP rush. Now that we all had FP we saved them for later and walked to Tomorrowland.

disney2012_2728-1.jpg

Danielle and I spotted one of our favourite characters so we gave our cards to the rents so they could grab more FP while we waited in line for The White Rabbit. While we waited in line, a choice american citizen asked us "Where's yall's kids?" I promptly responded, "we don't have any, thank god", he did not see the humor in this and asked us "why yall waitin' in line than" we replied with a duh answer, guess he didn't like being behind us.

DSCF4029-1.jpg

We tried to ride Space Mountain but it was not running this morning and they told us to come back in an hour, what a disappointment.
We walked back to BTMR to use our FP but the line said 10 min wait, we decided to take our chances and save the FP for later when it was busy.

DSCF4030-1.jpg

When we actually were done the line and on the ride the wait was about 7 minutes, we thought hey we can handle that, so we rode it 3 more times.
Once the line started to get a little longer we walked over to HM, it was nice and warm inside the mansion; it must have been all the ghostly company.

DSCF4035.jpg

DSCF4036.jpg

It had started to warm up a little bit now that the sun was coming out, and we thought it was now or never. We suited up into our water gear and got in line for SM. DD didn’t remember going on this ride before although we were all sure he had been. SM was still a walk up this morning since no one was brave enough to walk around wet for the entire day. We got right into our little log and were on our way.

DSCF4031-1.jpg

As ou can tell from the photo staying dry was our main priority; we were prepared to dodge the splash at all costs.
And then...
It wasn’t as bad as it usually was, I don’t know if it was just because we were crazy, but it felt like they had turned down the water and lowered the levels or something because there was not nearly as much splash as we were used to; which we were thankful for.

DSCF4037-1.jpg

Afterwards we were a bit peckish from our petite but delicious breakfast; we headed over to Peco Bills. Danielle and I opted to split the Deluxe Angus Burger and a carrot cake; it was just as good as it always is. This is a go to favourite for Danielle and I to share because it is so large, we would never be able to finish all this food on our own, here is a picture of a half portion.

DSCF4040-1.jpg

Once we had our fill I wanted to go over to EPCOT to get a pearl like Danielle had the other day, we didn't have anything else to do there so it was going to be a quick trip. We hopped on the monorail and were there in a flash.

disney2012_2754.jpg

When we got to Japan I waited in line, I had my eye on one pearl in paticular.

disney2012_2744.jpg

After I selected my pearl we popped that baby open and.....

disney2012_2747.jpg

I got photobombed :rotfl:, my Dad takes the worst pictures, he didn't even notice until I pointed it out days later.
We were ready to wrap it up and felt that it was warming up enough that we might be able to take a swim back at the hotel so we packed it in, little did we know this would turn out to be the worst idea ever.

Continued In Next Post

Thank you, but unfortunately I'm already home! :( I started my new TR, though!!!

Ugh, seriously? Last time I checked, SIR, there was no age limit on character greetings. :sad2:

Yay for your pearl!!

Haha ya! He seemed utterly appauled that we were standing in line to see The White Rabbit, but where were his kids matching Alice in Wonderland shirts? That's what we thought; true fans of Disney over here:wave2:!

We can't wait to read all about your trip; any trip to Disney World is fantastic and fun to read about!

Oh you found the Ring at HM! We always looked for it on the way out (like it used to be) and just recently discovered it is now in the queue. We'll have to look for it in there next time.

We asked for it :lmao:, thats when the CM lets us know that it was actually a cut off fence post last time but so many people were interested in it they decided to incorporate it in the new queue.
