Ringing in 2010, 6 months til we'll be back again

Friiiiidaaay! We have a half day and then conferences. We'll take a Spelling test, decorate Valentine bags, hand out cards and have goodies, and just let them do centers. We have brunch on half days. It'll be a short day with kids, but a long afternoon. I hope some of the parents I need to talk to show up!

I fix chicken and dumplings at home about 2-3 times a year - usually during Thanksgiving or Christmas break and then a couple of times randomly through the year. Jill and I love them, but the boys would just rather have chicken fixed another way. Good down-home cooking - chicken and dumplings, green beans, fresh corn, fried apples, cornbread....there's a reason why I am more than pleasingly plump!

Yay for a half day :cool1::cool1::cool1: And your menu sounds awesome...what time should we all show up for dinner MeMom? :rotfl:

Have a great Friday, MeMom and Jill!!! :goodvibes

Fridays are pretty good days, I must say! :goodvibes

Hope yours is good, too!

Ummm, let's see, driving in the snow, you guys can probably be here by tomorrow night's suppertime, right?

You just let me know whenever you are driving through Nashville, and my house can be your dinner stop. :)

This may sound strange but dumplings cooked in chicken broth was always a Thanksgiving tradition at my grandmothers house. It continues at mine. My children expect it and always look forward to it as well!
It is a favorite around here as well!

Do you use a recipe or just put in a little of this and a little of that?

All right :thumbsup2 Nashville is on our list of places to move to after next year...it's a very short list....if I had my way the only contender would be Orlando...but Patrick insisted on adding Nashville and Raleigh/Durham to the list (my cousin lives in NC...and Patrick fell in love with TN when we were there over the summer)

I wouldn't mind having MeMom's famous chicken and dumpling recipe!

We finally have snow in NW Ga. it started snowing about 1.5 hrs. ago and the trees and grass is covered. The snow is not sticking on the road in front of the house yet. My DH has started a fire in the fireplace.

Well, I use measurements,
if you count a dash, a pinch, a dollop, and a plop as measurements. :)
I am most definitely a 'little of this and a little of that' kind of cook.

I'm having to answer these one at a time, because something crazy is happening. If I multi-quote, the cursor will not move from the beginning of the post. It won't let me go to the end to answer. Weird.

Tennessee is a nice place to live. You get four distinct seasons, and it's half a day's drive to Disney World. Two hours by plane.

There's no real recipe. I use flour and chicken broth to make dumplings and boil them in chicken and broth. I often cheat and just use buttermilk biscuits, but Jill doesn't like them as much. They're just a lot less hassle. Close to the end of the cooking, I add some cream of chicken soup to thicken it up.

Enjoy your snow. We are supposed to get more Sunday, so they say. We'd love to see some pictures. A fire in the fireplace sounds very cozy. I wish I had a fireplace to help with the heating bill!

After the parade, we shopped our way (just a bit) out of the park.

Okay, I have come to another standstill. I will have to wait for another set of pictures to be loaded. Whenever they get here, we'll be ready to roll again. I don't remember what we did next, so I'll be as surprised as you whenever I see them. :goodvibes

Awww, my (little) Rachel's birthday is April 3. That year she was born on a Wednesday, and Easter was the following Sunday. This year again, Easter is falling during her birthday weekend!

My Avery is also April 3rd!!

Have you tried the frozen dumplings? They're pretty good...not as good as my mom's, but pretty good!!!

I miss elementary school :sad2: My friday started off with an algebra quiz and ended with a chemistry test. But now I'm on vacation and I'll be in Disney in FOUR DAYS! :yay:

I had a picture message from Meg when I got out of school! It was a picture of Everest to get me excited for our DIS meet :cool1:

i know! i know!

well, the snow is coming down outside my house right now. they say it's gonna keep coming down until 6am. right now i think we have about 6 inches. i'm sure tomorrow will be a fun day in my neighborhood! i was supposed to go get bloodwork done today but didn't make it because of the weather. oh, darn! i guess i'll have to go on monday though. blah.

We have about 3 inches of snow. School was cancelled and the boys have been having a blast. We have all next week out of school for mid winter break so hopefully we won't get cabin fever.

Have you tried the frozen dumplings? They're pretty good...not as good as my mom's, but pretty good!!!

I use those too. I call it chicken pastry, but I think we are talking about the same thing. Anyone who isn't well versed in southern cooking should try them. I think they are very good. I've used Anne's and Atkinson's frozen pastry strips and both are good (Atkinson's is better). I just boil some chicken then pull it into pieces and add it back to the broth. Then add the pastry strips right out of the freezer (don't thaw) and it only takes about 10 minutes for the pastry to get done. It is really delicious and super easy.

(But Memom yours sounds even better! This is just a lazy person's recipe!)

Oh and I love the popcorn vendor picture!

I love the pajamas! Do you know how much they are? I'm adding that to my list. (the list is getting a tad long.)
The popcorn buckets are so festive. I got one in November. I also saw it our Disney parks outlet.:goodvibes

That sounds like the same thing - sometimes I let them thaw a little and roll them out a little thinner. I'm not crazy about thick dumplings.

This 'chicken & dumplings dish' sounds fabulous!
I miss the down home southern cooking my MIL would make.

She made a chicken-fried steak that was heavenly! :)

One of my goals on the upcoming trip is to collect as many popcorn buckets as I can. popcorn::
